A Scandalous Pursuit (Scandalous, #3)A Scandalous Pursuit by Ava Stone

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

But when she stumbles headlong into a compromising position with the passionate duke, her carefully constructed life quickly begins to unravel. In no time, Olivia must choose between the life she’s always planned and everything she never knew she wanted.

My Review

This book will suck you in from the first page! As soon as I started reading I was glued and couldn’t put it down even at 3am. When you see that they are going to be in a scandalous situation you think along the lines of spotted kissing or alone in a room by accident, but no not with this one and it was a shocking way to be caught and still innocent. I loved it. Every scene was great and I loved everyone involved especially Poppy. She is the sweetest thing and makes you want to be able to hug her. My favorite scenes with her are when they are ordering dresses and her barging into rooms.

Oliva is the kind of heroine that you want to be friends with. She speaks her mind when asked and she doesn’t blink an eye at Poppy. She has her moments where you want to yell “no don’t do that”, but that just makes her more human.

Alex is a unique man. He is very caring and kind, but also a mystery and many wild stories follow him. You start loving him for how he wants Oliva to want to marry him, but you fall in love with him when you see how he treats and loves Poppy and the stories he tells her.

I liked how both of their pasts were brought up and handled especially Alex’s, but I really want to know what happened Phillip after the duel.

What I’m Currently Reading

What I'm Currently Reading

I will be starting A Scandalous Pursuit by Ava Stone this week. If I finish by Wednesday it will be this week’s review post! I didn’t get a chance last week to start it because my allergies were kicking my butt and some other things got in the way.

Another book I am considering reading is The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. I have been binge watching The Musketeers (love it!) on Hulu and think I might enjoy the book even though the show and the book have some big differences. I know the show isn’t really historically accurate and I usually try to stay away from those shows, but when the show first started it peaked my interest into the history of the musketeers. And as my mom says the cast isn’t bad on the eyes either 😉 . I have no clue what I am getting into with the book and hope I like it. I’m the person that sees a movie or show that they love and is based on a book and has to read the book and compare them.

The Three Musketeers (The D'Artagnan Romances, #1)

I’m the person that sees a movie or show that they love and is based on a book and has to read the book and compare them. I have done this with a few movies and shows before and usually, I understand why some things were changed, but there are times I end up preferring the book so much that I don’t want to watch the movie or show again.

My Reading Challenge

A quick little reading challenge update. As I’ve said before I am just getting back into the groove of reading after experiencing reading burn out so I am a behind on the challenge not from lack of reading, but because I chose to read the Outlander series and each book is pretty long and I took a break for the new season. I hope to get back on track and hopefully get close to beating my challenge.

Review: The Duke of Daring

The Duke of Daring (The Untouchables Book 2)The Duke of Daring by Darcy Burke

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Miss Lucinda Parnell is out of money, a dismal failure at the Marriage Mart, and she’d just as soon leave Society far behind. Desperate to earn funds to retire with her grandmother to the country, Lucy disguises herself as a man to gamble in London’s hells. But the Earl of Dartford, an Untouchable she never imagined speaking to let alone spending time with, is onto her in a trice. When he insists on joining her, Lucy fears her desire to remain an independent woman is destined to go up on flames.

As a boy, Andrew Wentworth, Earl of Dartford lost his family to illness, leaving him a hollow shell. Obsessed with conquering one adventure after another to fill the bitter holes inside of him, Andrew has set his sights on parachuting. Nothing will stop him from trying to achieve his goal—not the hazard of death and certainly not a woman who’s gotten far too close. Love is the one risk he doesn’t have the heart to dare.

My Review

I received an advanced copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I knew from the moment I saw that Lucy dresses like a man that I was going to love this book. It’s rare that I can say that I 100% love a heroine, but I absolutely loved Lucy. She is strong, independent and goes after what she wants even if it is scandalous. When there was a conflict between them she didn’t go into a frenzy of why did he do that instead she understood his reasons even if it wasn’t very clear and that was a refreshing change from most heroines. I loved that she could shoot a gun and fool all these men. I just kept picturing her in her costume around all the men and acting just like them. Her reasons for not wanting to get married and retire with her grandmother were completely valid and her I wanted to get to know her charming grandmother more.

I just wanted to help Andrew because he kept trying to fill the holes in his heart by doing dangerous things because he didn’t understand why he didn’t die with his family. He cared about many people but pushed them away out of fear of getting too close and then something happening to them. He didn’t have a mean bone in his body and without realizing it was helping people and saving people in different ways. He had some true friends that didn’t question him when he kept them at bay.

I was totally thrown off guard when he received the note demanding money and it wasn’t who I thought it was going to be. The person I expected it to be had a totally different reason for how they were acting and I applaud Darcy for tricking me like that because I usually can figure it out. If you hate it when in a book magically a lady is undressed like she only wore a dress then there is a scene in this book that you will love and it was wonderfully done. I loved everything about it and read it in one sitting. I can’t wait to what else The Untouchables have in store for us.

What I’m Currently Reading and Writing Update

I finished The Duke of Daring by Darcy Burke last night and its review will be up WA Scandalous Pursuit (Scandalous, #3)ednesday.

I am going to start on A Scandalous Pursuit by Ava Stone this week and will probably get through it in one sitting since she is a favorite author. If you read my review of The Lady Unmasked then you got a taste of how much I love her. In a couple of weeks, I will start back on the Outlander series since the show will be going on season break.

In a couple of weeks, I will start back on the Outlander series since the show will be going on season break.

Now on to my writing update. It’s just a small update as I didn’t feel good for a few days last week. My hero and villain have finally told me why they hate each other thanks to a song I find on youtube that made it click in my head. I now fully understand my villain has done the things he has and now I just need to make it work it all out. They totally shocked me with the reason and it wasn’t even on my radar of possibilities. If you haven’t realized it yet I write by the seat of my pants pretty much and let my characters call the shots. I just think of the idea and let them lead me on the way because what’s in my head may not play out on paper when I read it after writing it.

Fun Facts About Me

For this week’s random post I thought it would be fun to post some fun facts about me. The original plan for the post was going to be some photos of my little dog Abigail and cat Spot from a shoot for the 4th of July, but dealing with a cat that is mad from having to take a hairball medicine is worse than herding monkeys. Now on to the facts!

  1. Where do you write? I write in my living room on the sofa. I put headphones on and block out everything and everyone around me. I have a lap desk that keeps my laptop at the right height and angle for me so I can stretch out with Abigail beside me.
  2. What do you listen to when writing? My Spotify playlist is a mix, but mostly I listen to classic country music (Randy Travis, Glenn Campbell, George Jones, George Strait etc.). I also have some movie and show soundtracks like the Outlander soundtrack and the Burlesque and Dirty Dancing movie soundtracks and I also have some Native American drums.
  3. Favorite shows and/or movies? Now that is a mix. A few shows: NCIS, Bones, Lip Sync Battle, Outlander, The Musketeers, Game of Thrones, NCIS New Orleans, Law and Order SVU, and many old westerns. A few Movies: Dirty Dancing, The Man in the Iron Mask, A Knight’s Tale, Walk the Line, Gone with the Wind, and just about any John Wayne western or Cary Grant movie.
  4. What do you do for fun? I love to learn new things which usually means I have more than one project going on at one. Outside of reading, I crochet, paint, draw, do hand embroidery, take pictures of my pets, and recently I’ve started hand sewing a bit making dresses for my little dog. I am self-taught in everything except the sewing since my mom has been sewing forever.
  5. Right or left handed? I am left handed which is why I am self-taught in many of my hobbies. When you’re the only leftie in your family it’s sometimes easier to teach yourself.

There you go five fun facts about me. I had fun writing them and as a bonus here is a couple of pictures of Abigail and Spot from their photo shoot. I hope to get more when Spot is in a better mood. I made the dress and bow tie and the photos are curtasy of Colt S. Photography (he’s my brother 😉 ).

Review: Scoundrel Ever After

Scoundrel Ever After (Secrets & Scandals, #6)Scoundrel Ever After by Darcy Burke

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Once upon a time there was a very bad boy…

Ethan Jagger will do anything to leave his criminal past behind and take his place as a gentleman in Polite Society. Success is within his grasp until his boss discovers his double cross and frames him for murder. As if running from the law and the outlaws weren’t bad enough, he must protect an innocent young lady from the very criminals who want him dead. Worst of all, though, is the dangerous attraction that sparks between them. If he can escape the hangman’s noose and start anew, will she consent to love a scoundrel ever after?

Who met a very nice girl…

London only thinks of Audrey Cheswick as a wallflower—if they even think of her at all. She’s tried to find satisfaction—if not happiness—as a spinster-in-waiting, though her intrepid spirit yearns for a grand adventure. But when she runs away with England’s most wanted criminal, she learns adventure comes with a price—not just her reputation or her virtue, but her heart.

My Review

Ethan is my favorite character. I think having him  in three books really made him fascinating because he changed a little in every book. I had a clear picture of him in my mind with everything he did. I loved how he didn’t really know why he was so willing to take Audrey with him and protect her no matter what. He slowly began to trust people as time went on and when you find out all the people he has affected in a good way and that he didn’t realize people cared about him, your heart pulls for him.

Audrey is a mystery herself. Just when you think you know everything about her, something shocking comes to light. I couldn’t figure out why she was dressed like she was when they first left London and loved when it was told why. I loved that she saw him for his true self and they were the perfect match for each other. And you have to love a girl that can shoot.

I was glad to see the characters from all the books. I loved that they can together to help him and forgive him for the past. I even liked Jason in this book because he realized that Ethan had a much harder life than he did. The ending was perfect, but I didn’t want it to end.

What I’m Currently Reading

I am actually reading two books right now. The first one is The Fiery Cross (Outlander #5) by Diana Gabaldon. I have taken a break from reading it for now since I am currently watching the new season of the TV show and it is a pretty big book, but as soon as its over I will need my Outlander fix and be back to the book and the rest of the series. I had reader burn out after binge-reading the first four.

The second book I am getting ready to start is The Duke of Daring (The Untouchables #2) by Darcy Burke. You can expect a review on this one very soon as I absolutely love her books. This is book #2 in her latest historical series and if you look at my widget on the side you should see my review of book #1 if you want to check it out.

If you click on the books below it will take you to the good reads pages for those books.

Stop Piracy and Support Authors

Add heading

Book piracy has been around forever and recently it seems like it is happening more. Some people may not realize that it is illegal, but most do and say that authors make enough money or that it’s because they can’t always afford to buy a book. If you get a book from any site that isn’t Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Kobo etc or any place the author list as a place to buy their book then it has most likely been placed there without their permission even if the site claims to have it. You also put yourself at risk for viruses by downloading these files and it may even ask for a credit card number and who knows what could happen with that.

Some things that you may not have thought about before which I know I didn’t until a few years ago :

1. Most authors still have daytime jobs because not everyone is Nora Roberts and making millions.

2. They can spend months to a year writing hours every day for one book.

3. Writing is not a cheap job to have. There are editors, proofreaders, cover designers (even if you can design you own it’s still not cheap) and many other things that cost money and are needed.

4. What they make usually goes right back into their books and it’s not much. They don’t make 100% of each sale and to make back what the book cost them and the hours they spent to write they would have to sell thousands of books.

5. They try to keep books affordable for readers because they are also readers and understand what it’s like to be a book addict.

6.No matter what they love what they do and will continue to write.

I know I use to think all authors were like Jessica Fletcher on Murder She Wrote and that the all made tons of money writing a book in a few days time. Then I started connecting with authors on facebook and learned that this is not reality. I also learned that there are many free books on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, and Kobo. We are talking millions of free books on sites that are safe and that the authors list their books on. My tablet is full of these free books along with the ones I buy when I can.

If you have an Andriod smartphone you can download the Google Opinion Rewards app and earn play store credits by doing quick surveys and use those to buy books through the play store. The Bing search engine has Amazon gift cards you can earn for using their search engine and you can use those for books. You can go to your local library and check out books to read and if they don’t have a certain book you can request it and some now even have ebooks if you only read ebooks. All three are safe and legal.

Support the authors you love by buying their books (from sites that they list say they list books) and of course leaving a review 😉

Review: The Danger in Daring a Lady

The Danger in Daring a Lady
The Danger in Daring a Lady by Emma Locke

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Devil-may-care rogue Lord Darius Alexander can’t resist a wager. When a game of cards is suggested at the remote inn where he’s stopped for the night, he antes up his family’s savings, certain his Town bronze will give him the advantage. He never expects to lose his fortune to the irritatingly confident, uncommonly beautiful hoyden daring to play with the men. …Nor does he expect to lose his heart.

Caitlin Hart is known for her good sense. When a ridiculous reprobate tosses his savings onto the gaming table, she doesn’t hesitate to divest him of it. But Lord Dare won’t accept defeat like a gentleman. He suggests a compromise, and before long the handsome scoundrel is working back his losses on her small farm. But her neatly plowed fields might be too close for her heart’s content, for soon she finds herself wondering if she can dare him to stay forever when the last of his coin is tucked safely into his pocket.

My Review

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Amazing! I love a woman that can go toe to toe with any man that crosses her path. Cate is an amazing woman that never gives up no matter what happens or what she has been through. She is definitely not the usual heroine.

Lord Dare is a complex man and just when you think you know him something else pops up about him and adds to him. With everything that he has done, you wonder how he is still alive. His family is trying to help him, but they also add to his problems without realizing it.

Everything seemed to jump off the page and I could get an image of what was happening because there was enough details. I have many favorite scenes because they were not the usual scenes, especially the wagon scene! It’s a great steamy read with just the tension between them.
