Torn from her life of privilege by her father’s death, Kate Morgan relies on her knowledge of fine things as a fence for stolen goods in one of London’s dark and depraved rookeries. The last man she ever expects, or wants, to see again is Daniel O’Reilly, the man who promised to love, honor and protect her, but who instead fled amidst accusations of murder.

One drunken night cost Daniel O’Reilly the woman he loved and the life he’d worked so hard to create. If he ever wants to reclaim that life—and Kate—he’ll not only have to prove he’s innocent of murder, but convince the pistol-wielding beauty to forgive his many sins.

With a killer on the loose, time is running out for them…

My Review

I have read this book twice now because it is different from most historical romances. There are no balls and fancy estates in this book it gives you an insight into the life of living in the rookeries and slums of London and that’s what makes it a fantastic read. I loved that this book also involved real history with the murders and showed the horrible things that went on.

Kate is not your typical heroine, but also is at the same time. She is smart and strong and doesn’t take anything off of anyone, but she is also broken because of everything that has happened to her. She doesn’t want to rely on anyone again and thrives on being in control of her life now. At first, you may not like her, but you have to get to know her and you will slowly understand her and feel for her.

Danial is a different man than he was before, but he is still changing and finding his way. He was making a better life for himself when he was accused of murder and fled thinking that would protect Kate. When he came back he tried to pick up where they left off in a way and he ran hot and cold at times, but he also could see past everything that happened to Kate without judgment.

I knew there was something about Owen, but couldn’t put my finger on it until it was revealed. I never knew what was going to happen next and I want to know more about the gentleman thief so much.

A Lady Shunned by All…

Lady Viola Oberbrook only wanted to forget the ill-fated early morning duel that took the lives of two young, wealthy, promising men of the ton and sent her fleeing for her father’s country estate. Eight years later, she has her life in order: a fulfilling business, a few trusted friends, and no plans to return to London society. What she doesn’t expect is to come face to face with her past.

A Lord Betrayed by One…

Brock Spencer, Earl of Haversham, only wants vengeance. Recently returned from his military service to the King, his plans include repairing his family estate, finding a bride, and destroying the girl responsible for the untimely death of his twin brothers. What he doesn’t anticipate is falling in love with the only woman who should never be part of his future.

An Impossible Match, Destined to Be…

My Review

This is not your typical romance. There is a lot of guilt, revenge, and redemption involved which does make for a good story. I love the Prologue because it really gives you an insight to everything that happened instead of just being mentioned here and there. I loved the chemistry between them and how everything falls into place. And any story that has horses like this is something I love.

Viola is one of those heroines that at first, you don’t like, but then you see how she changes and you love her. She grew up and became a very responsible woman that is one of the best in the horse breeding business.

Brock is a very damaged man after losing his family while he was in the war. He wanted revenge for his family and had no clue he was falling for the woman that he wanted to destroy.

There isn’t much of them as a couple and this is more about healing and second chances.

Lady Amelia has only known the comfort of life in mid-eighteenth century English aristocracy. But when first her mother and then her father die, she finds herself alone, grief stricken and….. not of age. Her appointed guardian, an American uncle, has ordered her travel to his plantation where she must remain for at least two years when she will come of age.

With the help of Lady Grace and Lady Sarah, Lady Amelia gets her uncle to agree to give her four weeks to settle her affairs and unbeknownst to him…find an English lord to marry so she can remain in her beloved England. Despite her mourning period she endeavors to trap one of London’s eligible bachelors in matrimony.

Lord Goldstone, Lady Grace’s nephew is devilishly handsome, but a Scottish Duke and so entirely unacceptable as a possible husband. After all Scotland is not her beloved London and environs. He also has a nasty habit of showing up at all the wrong moments and thwarting her carefully laid plans to ensnare a suitable husband. Sparks fly as the pair find themselves at odds with each other and drawn to each other at the same time. Can they find a way to stop arguing long enough to explore their growing passion? Is it strong enough to make Lady Amelia give up her English home after all? Or will Lady Amelia find a suitable English lord and avoid social exile in America? Time is running out.

My Review

Scandal always makes for a great and book and I loved this one. I was a bit worried about her wanting to trap a husband, but she was desperate and it made perfect sense at the time. Instant attraction drew them to each other, but stubbornness from both caused conflict.I loved every time the interacted because I never knew what would happen.

Amelia is a bold girl that shocked people at her father’s funeral and she is not afraid to cause a scandal if it means she gets to stay in London. She loved her father but hated the rules of society and it was understandable that she wanted to dance and be herself.

Lord Goldstone had no plans of being the prey to a lady’s attempt to trap him again. He kept finding himself protecting her from scandal while trying to understand her plan. I loved how he kept fighting with himself over being drawn to her, but avoiding the trap.

Her uncle was a very nice man and had good intention when he planned to take her to America. Lady Grace is definitely a friend you want to have.

Loving Lord Lucifer…

An independent bluestocking sneaks into a library to read rare Greek texts and ends up with a husband instead.

Jacqueline “Jack” Walters loves archery and Greek military history. In her third season she has failed to inspire so much as one marriage proposal and is planning to settle into the quiet life of a spinster.

Gideon Wolfe, Earl of Harrington, has been avoiding marriage but a case of mistaken identity in the library has left him saddled with an argumentative and unwilling fiancee.

My Review

This is just book one in the Haberdashers series and it is addicting! A case of mistaken identity and being in the library at the wrong time leads to marriage that neither one planned on. Jack and Gideon were complete strangers when they met and you get to know them as they get to know each other. They fight over the oddest things at times and surprise each other at times too. I loved the whole story even though at times I wanted to scream at them, but that’s what makes it great. The ending is a twist that I didn’t see coming and worked out great.

Jack is definitely a woman not to be messed with. She has a love of history and many weapons that she knows how to use and isn’t afraid to use either. She doesn’t realize that many men admire her, but are imitated by her without her knowing it. I loved her from the start. At times she was vulnerable and jumped to conclusions but that made her more real.

Gideon is a man that can surprise you at almost every turn. Just when he thinks he knows his wife she surprises him with something new. It takes him awhile to realize he loves Jack and is confused by his reactions to things at times which makes him lovable. He is very active in politics and has a fun friendship with a duke.

This is a must read!

HE PUT HER ON A PEDESTAL
When Celeste Gray arrives in the sleepy village of Brixcombe-on-the-Bay, she thinks she’s one step closer to leaving her notorious past behind. She even suspects the deliciously handsome—if somewhat stuffy—viscount next door is developing a tendre for her. That is, until the day Ashlin Lancester learns she’s not the unassuming spinster she’s pretending to be.

NOW SHE HAS FARTHER TO FALL
After a decade of proving he is nothing like his profligate father, Ash is horrified to have given his heart to a Cyprian. He launches a campaign to prove his attraction is nothing more than a sordid reaction he can’t control. But he soon learns that unlike his father, he can’t find comfort in the arms of just any woman. He needs Celeste. When he takes her as his mistress, he’s still not satisfied, and the many late nights in her arms only make him want more…

My Review

I love books that are outside of the ballrooms of London and feature women that aren’t debutantes and this one was perfect. You feel the emotions in the emotional scenes and the sparks between Celeste and Ashlin from the time they meet. Just when you think everything will work out fine there is something to throw it off for a bit and will you have excited to turn the page and see what happen next. Scene after scene I feel in love with the characters more.

Celeste is a woman that can take care of herself and will do anything to keep her friend’s baby safe. She wanted to leave her past behind and start a new life, but she attracts men without trying. She has a big heart when it comes to people she cares about and her childhood is one of the reasons why. I loved her right away and felt for her when she realized she was alone.

Ash is an overprotective big brother to his sisters. He was so afraid of scandal because of his parents that he so worried about what his sisters did and who they were with that it pushed them to rebel. My heart broke for him when he found out the truth about Celeste and then tried to forget her. There were times where I wanted to shake him, but once his parent’s death was explained everything made sense even when it wasn’t like he remembered.

All of the characters were amazing! Ash’s sisters were fun and bubbly and had great stories of their own. This is a great start to a series.

When Victoria Barclay, privileged daughter of the Viscount Grantham, has a life-altering experience as a young girl, it sets the course for the rest of her life. She is determined to make a difference in the world, no matter the consequence, and becomes a highwayman—or woman, as it were—robbing the rich and donating her pilfered gains to the poor.

Life-long friend and neighbor, Phineas Dartwell, Earl of Leyburn, suspects his dear friend is up to no good. She’s become evasive, and even worse, he cares that she’s become evasive. When she refuses to confide in him, claiming it’s for his own good, he severs the friendship out of wounded pride and a wounded heart.

But when Victoria’s activities are brought to light in the eyes of the magistrate, Phineas must find a way to acquit his friend—and dare he hope, future wife?—of the charges.

My Review

This is the second time I have read this book and love it. I can never pass up a book that has a Robin Hood feel to it! Victoria and Phineas have been friends forever and he looks over her like a brother until he notices she is up to something. Well planned out robberies, adventure, and new feelings pull you into this story.

Victoria is a female Robin Hood. She has been determined to help people since she was a little girl, but her parents don’t share that opinion so she has to do it on her own. She is smart and knows she could hang for what she does and that she could be found out. I loved her and that she was determined.

Phineas is a great man. He has always said Victoria was like a sister and that’s why he watched over, but he soon realized his true feelings. He is a very caring man and an artist that will help anyone that he can. I loved him from the start.

I wished it was longer because it went by so fast.

Prue’s job is to uncover secrets, but she hides a few of her own. When she is framed for murder and cast into Newgate, her one-time lover comes to her rescue. Will revealing what she knows help in their hunt for blackmailers, traitors, and murderers? Or threaten all she holds dear?

Enquiry agent David solves problems for the ton, but will never be one of them. When his latest case includes his legitimate half-brothers as well as the woman who left him months ago, he finds the past and the circumstances of his birth difficult to ignore. Danger to Prue makes it impossible.

My Review

This book was a bit different from most that I read, but I really enjoyed it. It was like a movie that you don’t want to take your eyes off for fear of missing something. There are many twists and surprises throughout the books and they all connect to each other. There were parts I loved like scenes where Prue defended herself and how she and David were with each other. The murder case was one that I was not able to figure out at all until it was solved. The ending was great and I loved how all questions were answered.

Prue is an amazing character. She is great at her job, keeps her family safe, and can take down a man if needed. I was completely shocked by her secrets and didn’t see them coming. It took a lot for her to trust someone fully, but it was always for a reason.

David was also amazing. He always seemed open and didn’t judge anyone for their pasts or what they were forced to do to survive. I loved that he got along with his brothers in some ways. His past was interesting, but it never got in the way.

There are many great characters in the book.Gren and Charity were favorites of mine. At times it did seem to drag on, but then it would pick up with a new twist or information.
