If Lady Arabella Winslett was left to her own devices, she would happily paint each day away and want for nothing else. Unfortunately, her grandfather has other plans for her future, plans that involve marrying her off to her horrid cousin and sending Bella far away. Only a quick betrothal to someone else will save her from that unhappy fate. But with time ticking by, it would take a miracle to bring anyone up to scratch…If only someone could be convinced to play the role of her intended for just a little while.
Jaded Gregory, Baron Avery, lives with more than a few regrets and no way to atone for his past. Though, when his sister stumbles upon a lady in desperate need of a temporary fiancé, she suggests that Greg play the part in an attempt to help him find the peace he’s been missing. However, once the beautiful Bella enters his life, peace is the furthest thing from Greg’s mind. But their betrothal wasn’t supposed to be permanent, and she deserves someone much more honorable than him.

As always with Ava’s books, I read this one in one sitting. I love stories like this where the engagement isn’t supposed to be real, but they are instantly attracted to each other. Just when I thought I knew how everything would play out there were twists that I didn’t expect at all that explained some things too. I loved how they were so open with each other and that they didn’t fight their feelings. I loved his family and her sister and father, but her grandfather was horrible and a tiny bit of me wanted to see something happen to him. I hope her brother will be fine.
Bella is shy and likes to keep to herself, but cannot be fooled. I loved her from the start because once she heard her grandfather’s plan she started making her own plans. She tried so hard to take care of her brother and sister. She deserved to be herself and free of everything.
Greg can break your heart with his past. He would do anything to make his sister happy and help someone in need. I loved him because he realized that he needed to let go of the past because everyone else had and needed to forgive himself. I loved how he was with his siblings and other people.
