It is a truth universally acknowledged
that a lady can do anything a man can do:
backwards and in high-heeled dancing slippers.

Lady Juliana, daughter of the Earl of St. Maur, needs all the help she can get. She’s running a ramshackle orphanage, London’s worst slumlord has illicit designs on her, and her father has suddenly become determined to marry her off.

Enter Major Neil Wraxall, bastard son of the Marquess of Kensington, sent to assist Lady Juliana in any way he can. Lucky for her, he’s handy with repairs, knows how to keep her and the orphans safe, and is a natural leader of men.

Unfortunately for both of them, the scandal that ensues from their mutual attraction is going to lead them a merry dance…

My Review

The journey of the survivors continues and you won’t be disappointed! I laughed so hard when they were bickering and him and his friends that I almost dropped my book many times. There’s an instant spark between them, but both are so stubborn and set on their plans that its hysterical. I loved getting to know all the orphans and seeing how attached they were to them. I never saw the twist coming with the slumlord or the amazing one at the end! I loved seeing them help each other with their pasts and come together.

Juliana has vowed to never marry or trust men because of the past. I loved how well she could handle things on her own. When she decided to do something she didn’t and you don’t dare to tell her not to do it. She was so caring and loving.

Neil was sucked in as soon as he walked in the door. I loved how he was with the kids and that he tried not to get attached. He had his own past that set him in his ways and he just needed to find his place.

I also loved her father because his heart was in the right place. I can’t wait to get to know the other survivors.

A tale of an enduring love, powerful enough to survive time and circumstance. Two souls destined to be halves of a whole, but fated to be kept apart. And yet a love such as this is not content to blindly accept the bonds of fate…

Nathaniel can hardly recall a time he hasn’t adored Madeline. For Madeline, he truly is her knight in shining armour. Alas, one stolen night is all they are granted before Madeline is given in marriage to the wealthy and titled, Earl of Marbourne, who is fast friends with the king. A whirlwind of intrigue and contrivance follows Madeline as she joins the court and catches the eye of the king, while cruel fate conspires to keep Madeline and Nathaniel apart despite their desperate love.

It lies not in our power to love or hate,
For will in us is overruled by fate.
When two are stripped, long ere the course begin,
We wish that one should love, the other win;
And one especially do we affect
Of two gold ingots, like in each respect:
The reason no man knows; let it suffice
What we behold is censured by our eyes.
Where both deliberate, the love is slight:
Who ever loved, that loved not at first sight?
~ Christopher Marlowe

My Review

A forbidden love that overcomes so many things because fate overrules everything. I rarely get to read this time period and I’m so glad I got to read this one. It’s an emotional rollercoaster throughout this story and you will cry, be angry, and excited many times. I fell in love with their story right away and couldn’t put it down. So many things kept them apart at every turn even tragedies. I never saw the twists coming especially the one at the end.

Madeline is stubborn and that helps her keep her head high with everything that happens. I loved her right away because she didn’t just nod her head and go along without a fight. She feared nothing and didn’t hesitate to work to take down the person causing so much of the pain.

Nathaniel will break your heart in many ways. He is a knight ruled by his emotions at times. I loved him more and more throughout the story because he truly tried to let go and be happy without her. He would do anything to protect her even though his heart was broken. I was so happy that he was the one to follow the king’s orders.

This book has some very accurate information and has my favorite vows in it. The cover matches a scene in the book and I love that.

Would You Like to See Contempary Romance Too?

Would you be interested in reviews of Contemporary Romance too_

It’s Random Friday and I have a question for you! If you follow me on Instagram you saw a few weeks ago that I won a bunch of books from a giveaway. I didn’t know what they would when I entered and they were all romances, but not all historical. You know that I don’t read and review anything but historical romances and I’ve never actually read other romance sub-genres. But a few of these looked good and this gives me the chance to try them out without wasting money if I don’t like them.

Thank brings me to my question. Would you like to see my reviews of these books and maybe more in the future? This blog would still be focused on historical and these reviews would have a special day once a month or week. Answer the poll below and feel free to comment too.

Quiet and serious-minded, he knows he needs to marry into the peerage for his sake, as well as, his family’s. But when he finds himself by chance at an auction in London’s infamous Scarlet Salon he throws his ambitions to the wind to bed the lovely Miss Price.

It doesn’t take long for Emily to lose her heart to her dry-humoured, generous benefactor. But when their affair goes public in one of the most scandalous newspapers in town, Emily must decide if she must cast her feelings aside and leave James to pursue his societal ambitions, and James must decide if family and duty are worth giving up the chance of love.

Scandal, manipulation and ambition hinder the lovers’ path to happiness. Only they can decide if love is worth fighting for.

My Review

I love a book full of good scandal like this! This is one of those that you never dought if they will end up together, but you wonder what will happen along the way to cause problems. I loved that this was so different from most with the virgin action and that it wasn’t a rescue story like most. They hid their relationship but also didn’t in a sense because it was clear to everyone there was something there. I never expected to like Mr. Turner, but I did and I loved the whole story with him. I also didn’t see the twist of the paper coming and who was behind it at all. That was a surprise that added to everything.  I also loved his family especially he father who was not what you expect.

Emily doesn’t do anything without a plan. I loved that she was not shy and wasn’t going to back down from her plan. She always put others first and was determined to pay off the debts and then find justice. I loved how she embraced scandal and became the green lady.

James means it when he says that he doesn’t care for society. He was a refreshing person because of how he broke the rules and did what he wanted. I loved him from the start because it was clear why he had to have her. He was so torn about what to do and it was so sad to see him struggle.

I can’t wait for more of this series and hope that his sister gets what she wants. I also hope her friend finds happiness.

Fairy Food

Continue the journey of the Brides of Blessings with Mimi Milan’s Dueling the Desperado. Another strong woman is trying to find her own way and love is the last thing on her mind. If you’ve read The Blessed Bride, Blessed Beyond Measure, and Hell-Bent on Blessings then you will love this one and want to continue the series.

About the Book:

“This place is too dangerous for a face like yours.”
“I feel as if I’ve heard those words before.”

It’s been several years since Araceli Arroyo left behind the burning ruins of her family’s hacienda in New Mexico for a new start in California. Despite the time that’s passed and all the loss she’s suffered, the painful memory of war is like fresh paint on a blank canvas. Perhaps that’s why the prints she creates always hold a touch of sadness. However, she’s determined to produce something new – a masterpiece that will inspire the folks in the growing town of Blessings. Could the new hire at her father’s sawmill help her do that… or will the secrets he carries destroy them both?

From Texas to New Mexico, problems stick to Miguel Santiago like stink on old fish. Hoping to shed his old life, he’s thankful for a friend’s invitation to start anew in a place where he can be anyone – literally. Operating under the alias of Michael St. James, his fair looks and country twang allow him to pass as any other American cowboy in search of California’s promise of golden opportunities. Could the family he’s always wanted also be part of the prospect… or will the woman of his dreams discard him like her dried jars of paint when his past is revealed?

A story of desire and deception, dismay and deliverance, hearts burn as bright as the summer sun setting on the golden California coastline in this classic western.

A pursuit is underway…
From the hallowed halls of London’s Almack’s to the unkempt taverns of Drury Lane, from whispered words in glittering theatres to seductive kisses at Vauxhall Gardens – an earl must pursue his lady.

Propriety be damned. Anything is allowed. But for success, the Earl of Kelmarsh may have to enact the Rules of the Rogue…

A resolute lady.
Miss Sophie Beckford escaped to Ireland after her almost betrothed broke her heart. Now a year later, she’s back in London – stronger, better attired, armed with her cousin and determined not to fall for the blackguard’s wiles again.

A desperate gentleman.
What’s an earl to do when his almost betrothed refuses to speak to him, hear him out or even look at him after a misunderstanding of gargantuan proportions?

With dubious assistance from a roguish marquess, a strait-laced duke, and even the occasional poet and famous actor throwing in their sixpence, the earl will try any ruse, any rule in the book to recapture Sophie’s heart.

Failure is not an option.

A sensual Regency romance with warmth and wit.

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I was hooked from the start with what happened that night and couldn’t put it down. I love the bits of comedy in this story because it made everything feel real. From the rules to her cousin’s curses I was laughing. I loved every character and how they all interacted with each other with teasing and planning. When they were on the boat I could picture everything happening. The secondary romance blooming between her cousin and the duke was a great bonus and hope to see them again. The ending was perfect even though it left me wondering if the guy was dead or not.

Sophie came back from Ireland stronger than before and ready to fight. I loved that she didn’t hide and wasn’t going to be left behind either. She knew exactly what to do to get a man to let go of her. I loved that she didn’t instantly forgive and forget.

Bram was living a life he didn’t want and it cost him his future. I loved him right away with the plan he had to win her back and then everything he did. He was great at every turn no matter what bad advice he followed. I loved that he could use a sword and have him the sword pictured perfectly.

I hope to see the others again.

Random Friday: Book Buy Habits Tag

*Book Buy Habits Tag

It’s Random Friday and today is the Book Buying Habits Tag! I found this at Life of a Female Bibliophile

Where do you buy your books from?

I get most of my books from Amazon because I have prime and get ebooks most of the time.

Do you ever pre-order books and if so, do you do this in-store or online?

I just recently started pre-ordering some books. When I do it is online.

On average, how many books do you buy a month?

Hmmmm. Depends on my budget, but usually 2-5. I only use gift cards so that I don’t go wild.

Do you use your local library?

I haven’t been to the library since in years. Last time I went I was at that odd stage of too old for the kids books, but too young to go upstairs to the other books.

If so, how many do you borrow at a time?

I did find my card recently and hooked it up to the OverDrive app, but haven’t borrowed any yet.

What’s your opinion on library books?

They are great money savers and perfect if you aren’t one that wants to hold onto books.

How do you feel about charity shop/second-hand books?

I wish we had one in my town! I would love to get books from them.

Do you keep your read and TBR pile together/on the same bookshelf or not?

Yes. I don’t have many TBR books so I can keep it straight what it is what.

Do you plan to read all the books you own?

Yes. It may take forever because I keep getting more.

What do you do with books that you own and that you’ll feel you’ll never read/enjoy?

I don’t have any like that. I’m very careful about getting books that I will read.

Have you ever donated books?

Most of my books that aren’t ebooks are signed copies so I haven’t donated any yet.

Do you feel like you buy too many books?
