The Viscount’s Promise
The Twice Shy Series Book 2
by Christina Britton
Genre: Historical Romance
Pub Date: 10/30/18
Lady Emily Masters has harbored a secret infatuation for the dashing
Malcolm Arborn, Viscount Morley since a childhood accident claimed
the life of her twin brother and left her own face scarred. But when
fate brings them together again for her brother’s wedding, she is
dismayed to find instead of the brave gentleman who sheltered her
after the tragedy, a surly rogue quick to quip and slow to trust.

To the cosmopolitan and haughty Malcolm, few engagements could possibly
be more punishing than attending his friend’s country wedding―until
the groom requests he watch over his timid sister during the weeks
leading up to the ceremony. Fearful of her scar making her the center
of attention to the visiting lords and ladies, Emily proves to be a
difficult charge for the irascible bachelor.

Her diffidence an insult to his sensibilities, he finds a new purpose
within his role: to bring out the bold woman within. But how can such
a gentle creature as Emily abide his own coarseness? At odds with
their natures, will these two willful souls be able to look beyond
their past hurt to build a promising tomorrow?
With Love in Sight
The Twice Shy Series Book 1
From Romance Writers of America’s® 2017 Golden Heart® winner comes a
story of passion that is much more than meets the eye.
An aging spinster at twenty-six, all Imogen Duncan sees ahead of her is
a life of servitude to her overbearing mother. Her London Season has
passed and her desperate shyness and reserved demeanor have destroyed
any chance for a match. As her younger sister Mariah begins her own
Season with a selection of suitors, Imogen believes her chances for
excitement are well and truly lost…Until a case of mistaken
identity and an accidental kiss brings her adventure.
Burying his guilt from a decade-old tragedy beneath a life of debauchery,
Caleb Masters, Marquess of Willbridge, is content enough to meet
willing widows in dark gardens to numb the pain. But he is wholly
unprepared when an innocent miss stumbles into him, turning his
superficial world on its head.
Drawn to the rogue that mistakenly stole her first kiss, Imogen finds not a
suitor, but a friend. Free to be herself for the first time, she
begins to see a new beauty in the world around her…and see a
strength in herself she never knew she possessed. But when friendship
turns to passion, Imogen will accept nothing less than Caleb’s
heart. Can a healing of the past lead to the promise of a future together?

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level:💋💋💋

This one picks up from where the last one left off and will guessing just like in the last one. He saw what she needed that no one else did and brought out a side of her that had long been hidden. It is not love at first sight after all these years for either one. The twists of who is trying to push them together wasn’t a shock, but the twist to it was. I was holding my breath in the end because of who was trying to keep them apart. There are many parts that will have you laughing and parts that will take your breath away.

Emily is just as stubborn as her brother, but it has been hidden for a long time. I was so glad to see her get her own story because I knew there was more to her. She didn’t realize that she was as strong as she was and that she hid behind her scare.

Malcolm is straight to the point and doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He is one that you need to get to know to fully understand and love. But once you learn everything about him you will love him like crazy.

An aging spinster at 26, all Imogen Duncan sees ahead of her is a life of servitude to her overbearing mother. Her London Season has passed and her desperate shyness and reserved demeanor has destroyed any chance for a match. As her younger sister Mariah begins her own Season and must choose between many suitors, Imogen believes her chances for excitement are well and truly past. But a case of mistaken identity and an unintended kiss brings an excitement into her life that she never dreamed of.

Burying the guilt he suffers from his brother’s death a decade ago beneath a life of debauchery, Caleb Masters, Marquess of Willbridge is content enough to meet willing widows in dark gardens to numb the pain. But he is wholly unprepared when an innocent miss stumbles into his life, turning his superficial world on its head.

Drawn to the quiet, kind girl, whose kiss he stole, Caleb and Imogen form an unlikely friendship. But the more Imogen reveals of her wit and charm, the deeper Caleb finds himself falling for this bespectacled beauty. Refusing to let Imogen be tainted by his demons, he does everything in his power to fight the growing attraction. But when friendship turns to passion the situation between them takes an irreversible turn.

Caleb learns that behind Imogen’s placid exterior lies a will of steel when, to his bafflement, she refuses his marriage proposal. But now that he has possessed her, he cannot let her go so easily. Can Caleb convince Imogen to give him a chance—and to perhaps heal his soul in the process?

My Review

Two people afraid of love that are also very stubborn will have you saying will they or won’t they. Their first meeting would have set the gossips flying and it definitely met they were going to be interesting. I loved that everyone around them saw what was between them except for themselves and her mother. There were times I would have loved to knock them both upside the head, but they had family to pretty much do that. The story about his brother’s death was heartbreaking and that pain had been carried for way too long by everyone. The ending left me wanting more from them.

Imogen can break your heart with how much people forget about her, but there was a fire in waiting for a chance to ignite. I loved her right away because I knew she was going to rebel against her mother. Her sister and father were great at supporting her when needed even if they didn’t know everything.

Caleb lost his heart the moment he met her and just didn’t know it. I loved that he saw the real her that was hidden. He will pull at your heart with how much he has tortured himself over his brother.

How to Marry a Rake in Ten Days by Samantha Holt

The years had added the slightest touch of grey to his hair at the temples. Though he must have shaved in the morning, stubble was beginning to show on his jaw and upper lip. Something about that roughness made her want to reach out and stroke it. Lines crinkled the corners of his eyes. Not a lot but enough that his intense eyes were softened. And his lashes…dear Lord a man should never have such thick, long lashes. It was thoroughly unfair to the fairer sex.
“I always watched you,” he told her in a low voice, the timbre of it spearing deep inside her and making her feel warm and all twisted up inside.
She knew that. But she wouldn’t admit as much. A lady shouldn’t be aware of these things. However, he likely didn’t realise that she understood the reasons behind his stares. He probably had little clue that she even knew he was responsible for Robert’s change of heart.
“I never noticed.”
The lift of one brow told her he didn’t believe her. “I watched you dance. Watched you flirt. Watched you laugh.”
“A lady does not flirt.”
“You did.”
“Well, I have changed.”
His gaze met hers. “I noticed. A pity.”
Angelina eyed him. A pity? Here was the man who had so thoroughly disapproved of her behaviour that he had warned his all too impressionable friend away from her and now he was claiming that he liked that behaviour. Though she supposed such behaviour was favourable in a conquest but not in a wife.
There was no chance she would be a conquest. She was here for a marriage.
“I have grown up, Benedict, that is all.”
His lips curved. “You have grown up in many ways.” He glanced over her figure. “The years have done you many favours, Angie. However, I’m not sure you are all that different.”
“I am,” she insisted. “I’m nothing like I was when we knew each other.”
Benedict released the curl and tilted his head to view her. “Well, we have ten days together. I’m certain it will become clear whether you have or not.”
“That sounds almost like a challenge, my lord.” She cursed the words once they were out. Those were the words of impulsive, silly Angie. Even the addition of his title had been used with every intention of being daring instead of polite.
He lifted a shoulder. “Perhaps.” He leaned forward and took her hand in his. She eyed their gloved fingers meeting and tried to force her arm to retreat but she had gone boneless at his touch. He eased his palm into hers and held her hand.
“A challenge would certainly make this rather dry party a little more interesting, do you not think?”
She was too busy gaping at their linked hands to even agree with him. Or tell him no. She already had one challenge to worry about, she didn’t need another.
“We have ten days together. Let me prove to you that you are not changed. That the Angie I knew still resides behind those stiff manners.”
“Why on earth would I agree to such a thing?”
“To prove me wrong.” He lifted her hand up toward his mouth and brushed it over her knuckles.
“I have no need to prove it.”
“Are you scared?”
She raised her chin. “Never!”
He released a flash of a grin. “Ah, there she is.”
“Damn you, Benedict.”
His grin widened. “And again.”
She puffed out her cheeks, feeling how hot and red they were. This was all going so wrong. How was she meant to act like a lady when he was so infuriating? She should probably start thinking about a new job already. She’d never persuade Oliver they’d do well together if this continued.
Angelina tugged away her hand and shook her head. “You won’t win, Benedict. I can assure you of that. Now it is not appropriate for us to be alone together so I shall bid you good afternoon. Will you tell the marquess that I am suffering with a headache and I shall join them for dinner?”
“Of course, my lady.” He offered a mockingly formal bow and Angelina just knew he had no intention of giving up his idea of scandalising her.
She shook her head again. As if he could scandalise her further.

Excerpt from A Duke Changes Everything:
“Your sleep was troubled?” she asked softly.

“It always is.”

“I heard you call out. I thought you said my name.” Mina swallowed hard after the admission. She’d probably misheard him, but some rationale felt necessary to explain her presence in his room.

“Did I? Perhaps you’re haunting me in my sleep.” He did that thing with his thumb again, a seductive slide against her skin. His touch rippled out to spark goose bumps along her arm and heat between her thighs.

“You don’t remember your dreams?” she asked, her voice trembling like her insides.

“I try not to.”

“What troubles you?”

“Everything.” He let out a low chuckle, like the rusty creak of a door hinge. Lowering his chin, he assessed her. “Especially you.”

“I never intended to.” She pulled her hand from the duke’s, ignoring the shiver that spiked up her spine from the friction of his skin sliding against hers. “I’ll leave you so that you can get back to sleep.”

“Mina, wait.” He reached out, caught the edge of her arm, and a few strands of unpinned hair tangled between his fingers. “There’s something I must say before you go.”

She moved closer. He was utter temptation, all blazing heat and forest scents, and she felt an odd comfort being near him. She knew she should be scandalized. To be alone with him, a duke of the realm. A gambling club owner. Especially while he wore nothing but trousers and a half-buttoned shirt.

Rakish Colin Rowley, Viscount Hartsford is going home for Christmas to win a wager. Widowed Lucy Ashbrook, facing reduced circumstances, is forced to travel with him. During the four-day journey, mysterious events throw them together, compelling them to remember their emotional-ridden past. Only the magic of Christmastide can rekindle a love they couldn’t forget.

My Review

Christmastide magic at its best with a surprise twist in the end. These two are extremely stubborn and don’t know when to listen, but they are perfectly matched for each other. They had to open up and let go of the past to move on and fully understand each other. I loved how they were still connected after all this time. I did not see the twist at the end.

Lucy is understanding and caring even when she is being stubborn. I loved her right away because she saw how hurt he was and that he needed help.

Colin has been slowly going downhill for years and needed someone to help pull him up. I loved how he tried to be the rake, but you could see the real him underneath.

Even if the world is falling to pieces, when the treasure of the heart is discovered, a fight is needed to keep it.

King’s agent, Bentley Courtenay—Lord Castlereagh—has been sent on his first solo mission to rescue a widow, who’s been abandoned in the dense jungles of Venezuela. He intends to bring her back to England to answer questions regarding the poisoning death of a peer. Yet what awaits him in the on the Orinoco River has him wondering why the devil he ever signed up to work for the Crown.

Widowed Cora, Lady Trammel, is on a quest to locate a deadly orchid and destroy every last bloom before the toxin she accidentally created can fall into the wrong hands. When she encounters a king’s agent who fires her imagination, she declines his demand to return to London. The fate of the world is at stake, and she has to fix her mistake, for her discovery has the capacity to kill every human on Earth.

In the course of the journey, desire flares between Bentley and the older, more experienced Cora, but she’s not looking for love. While he loses his heart, evidence of the fabled city of El Dorado comes to light, and their mission takes a critical turn into dangerous adventure, so matters of love are shelved. Pursued by threats, time is running out to destroy the deadly toxin and protect the world’s greatest treasure from men who mean both to use both for their own insidious gain.

My Review

Finally, a romance where the roles are reversed when it comes to experience in passion!!! This may just be the couple to match Emmaline and Miles. There is an intense spark between them from the start that I was just waiting to explode. And it did not disappoint! They were met with challenge after challenge as they searched for the orchids and tried to work out their feelings. There are many twists and turns to who, what, and why that I wasn’t even close to being 100% right. That made it perfect! I laughed at how Gibbs and her assistant kept giving them advice. I held my breath at the end and then laughed when they escaped.

Cora is nowhere near what I expected and I loved it! She is definitely capable of taking care of herself, but she deserves true love. I loved her from the start with how devoted she was to her work and saving others. Even though she was strong she was hurt by her husband and past more than she thought.

Bentley is charming, sweet, and adorable (never thought I would say that about a hero). Trouble finds him everywhere, but he always comes out it alive. I absolutely loved his journal entries because they added so much to the story. His heart was lost to her the moment he saw her in that locket.

We got hints of Bentley in India and I so happy to see his story. There are Indian Jones and National Treasure vibes throughout the story and I love. I hope to see these two again. I also love that they are older than most couples.

Descended from witches burned at the stake, Lady Emilia Noble knows all too well how society persecutes the different. She trusts no one but her own siblings, never daring to reveal to anyone outside the family that she, like her grandmother before her, can read a person’s emotions through the changing colors of their aura. When her brother’s foolhardy boast that he can predict the future entangles him with the unscrupulous Lord Abernathy, Emilia is faced with a new threat: the ruination of the family’s finances and the unmasking of their secret past.

Until Emilia meets Felix Hunter, the Duke of Kintore. For years, Felix has watched as his immoral uncle, Lord Abernathy, has cast shame upon their family through his dishonest machinations. Determined that Abernathy won’t hurt anyone else, he vows to help Emilia resolve her family’s debts. He’s been drawn to her since the moment he met her, and slowly, she begins to trust him too. But when Abernathy threatens to reveal the Noble family’s supernatural gifts, Emilia’s worst nightmare becomes a very real reality.

Can Felix and Emilia’s love triumph over the forces of evil, or are they fated to be perpetually alone?

When love is mixed with magic, anything can happen.

Fate brought them together with a little help. The moment they met they were drawn to each other and had no idea what was in store for them. I loved that they are a bit opposite in some things, especially in intense situations. I was surprised in the end with how he fixed things and that note has me excited for her siblings.

Emilia always puts her siblings first and will do anything to protect them. I loved how she wasn’t afraid and didn’t back down. She still had much to learn about her gift, but she let fate lead her without knowing it.

Felix has taken care of his uncle for years and nothing seems to shock him anymore. I loved that he always seemed to be calm and able to understand anything thrown at him. He knew what he had to do for himself and her family.

He’s the last Rogue standing, and the wickedest …

Charles Humphrey, the Earl of Lonsdale is infamous for his seductions. With laughing gray eyes and a halo of blond hair, he’s every woman’s wicked dream. Beneath that devil-may-care grin he has a painful past that has made him sure love was not for him, even as the rest of his friends, the members of the League of Rogues, settle down in wedded bliss. When he accidentally rescues a mysterious beauty with eyes as haunted as his own and shares one life-changing kiss with her, she vanishes in the night. Charles vows to find this angel who might yet save his soul but he knows anyone he cares about is in grave danger when an old enemy resurfaces a final time for revenge…

She’s the only woman who can save him…

Lily has secrets, too many secrets. When she’s abducted and taken into the London underworld by a gang of nefarious brutes, she’s rescued by Charles, the one man who can never know her past. She can’t let him discover her feelings or her secrets, but she can’t resist sharing one kiss with him before escaping his passionate embrace. That taste of the last bachelor of the League of Rogues leaves her desiring a future she cannot have – especially when her master demands she prove her loyalty in a most deadly way…

Warning: This book contains a scandalous rogue with a heart of gold, a lady who risks it all to save him, and a league of rogues who value friendship and love above all else.

This a hold your breath kind of story. The end to everything is finally near and it is full of shocking twists that make you hold your breath and moments that make you laugh. I never saw any of the twists coming and their instant passion leap off the pages. Slowly all the details of what happened all those years ago come out to explain why he hates them. You will not know everything until the end because he is twisted and you feel sorry for him at times while hating him. I absolutely loved that the wives figured out one of her secrets and the plan they set in motion. I laughed at Emily and her way of chaperoning. I also can perfectly picture him carrying her up the stairs while looking around.

Lily is full of surprises from her training to who she really. I was completely shocked by her and loved it. She was extremely brave and strong to do everything she did especially in the end. That blew me away and had me holding my breath.

Charles has been slowly slipping away from his friends for some time now. He hides behind that smile of his, but he has a heart of gold and is struggling. I always knew he was going to have the most shocking story.

I absolutely loved his mother and sister.

Anything can happen on Twelfth Night…

When widowed countess Minerva, Lady Harlow, discovers a devastating secret about her late husband just before Christmas, she turns to trusted friend, Sir Tristan King, for support. However, when a long-denied desire flares to life—and Minerva and Tristan agree to a Twelfth Night tryst—Tristan worries a secret of his own will ruin a treasured friendship. But then again, perhaps this shared night of wicked, unbridled passion will spark an everlasting love…

My Review

Have your fan ready with this one. That spark had been hidden deep in both of them until a conversation and kiss under the mistletoe ignited it. They were made for each other and didn’t know it. They had many interesting lessons that made their feelings strong and known. I loved how they didn’t play games and understood each other. I wasn’t expecting him to pop up during the show, but that just brought them together.

Minerva was sparked by finding out her husband’s secret to discover what she had been missing in the bedroom. She never expected some of the things she saw or that she would also enjoy them. I loved the fire in her and how she didn’t run and hide from anything.

Tristan had admired her from afar for years and he couldn’t hold back any longer. He had no problems teaching her what she wished to learn. I liked that he liked to take control and command, but not in a way that would be a turn-off as he was still gentle.

This story does have a bit of kink in it, but nothing too far out there or anything between them that readers would be upset over (like a threesome).

Beware romantic spirits from Christmas past…

Due to the terms of an estranged relative’s will, the Duke of Silkridge must revisit the cold, unforgiving mountains where he lost everything he once loved. As soon as he rights his family legacy, he’ll return to London where he belongs. He definitely won’t rekindle the forbidden spark crackling between him and the irresistible spitfire he’d left behind…

Noelle Pratchett is immune to charming rakehells like the arrogant duke. He stole her heart, stole her first kiss, and then stole away one night never to return. Now he’s back—and so are all the old feelings. Noelle knows he won’t stay. But how can she maintain her icy shields when every heated glance melts her to her core?

The Twelve Dukes of Christmas is a laugh-out-loud historical romance series of heartwarming Regency romps nestled in a picturesque snow-covered village. After all, nothing heats up a winter night quite like finding oneself in the arms of a duke!

My Review

This story definitely had me laughing throughout the whole book. This story takes on A Christmas Story vibes because everyone is happy to live in Christmas (Cressmouth). The town is full of unique and fun people that will win you over and have you in the Christmas spirit. That spark from 5 years before is still there and no matter what they tell themselves it is going to get stronger. They quickly realized they couldn’t let go of those feelings and that the Christmas spirit was bringing them together.

Noelle is magical in her own way. She does the work of multiple people and does it quickly. She knew something had caused him to leave before and understood once he told her everything. I loved her right away because she instantly makes you smile with how she does things and talks to him.
