The_Lady_Loves_A_Scandal_1800x2700.jpgTitle: The Lady Loves a Scandal
Author: Christina McKnight
Genre: Historical Romance, Regency
Release Date: May 22, 2018

Lady Sybil Anson thought she had it all. Even a match of the heart, despite so many London elite marrying for convenience. But the night before their betrothal was to become official, the love of her life vanished–with a hastily scrawled note and little more. She feared the worst as her heart ached for Gideon, and the scandal sheets simply made matters worse with their preposterous musings on the hows and whys of Viscount Galway’s disappearance. Now, more than a year later, he’s unexpectedly back, and Sybil will have her answers.

Many, many years ago, Gideon Lyndon made a grave mistake. One he’s spent most of his adult life trying to rectify. And despite the progress made, the sacrifices were extensive and damaging. On the verge of repairing one misdeed, he finds himself faced with his greatest challenge yet: winning back the woman he has loved since the moment he met her. But after a year of silence, convincing his headstrong paramour to take him back will not be easy. Especially since he can’t even explain why he left–not if he wants to keep her safe.

Review: My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋

This is a story of soulmates beating all odds. I was hooked from the start when he disappeared wondering what had happened. I wasn’t sure how it all would play out when he returned and I really liked how that spark was still in full force. When everything came out I was holding my breath afraid of what would happen, but it was perfect.

Sybil is nothing like the other girls and she doesn’t try to hide it. I loved her right away with how she did what she wanted and didn’t hold back anything. She wasn’t going to let him or anyone else control her life.

Gideon had an extremely good reason for leaving when he did and it hurt his heart to do it. I loved his reason for leaving and that he really wanted to tell her, but couldn’t. He knew that she wouldn’t stop until she found out why.

Stubborn hearts might be the last to fall, but when the hard tumble comes, it’ll last forever.

Jonathan Banshire, Viscount Trewellain, has become a bitter, sarcastic lord and against anything remotely smacking of romance. Though engaged to a woman whose hand he’d won in a game of cards years ago, he hasn’t thought of her in years. But he’s also a king’s agent, and as his duty to the Crown, he’s being sent to Spain to track down a missing peer. He goes to escape his personal life.

Miss Sophia Wickham is tired of men deciding her future. She’s on a mission to live her life on her terms, but can’t due to an ambiguous engagement to the Viscount Trewellain. Determined to gain her freedom, she sneaks onboard the ship intent to have Jonathan release her from that old promise. When he refuses in a fit of pique, she’s stuck as a stowaway, bound to the one man she can’t stand.

In Madrid, they search for not only the missing lord, but also stolen Spanish crown jewels and an ancient relic. Through crashing a glittering ball to hunting down clues to exploring the hidden catacombs and caves beneath Barcelona, the unlikely pair comes to an understanding. Vulnerable and trapped, truths are revealed as well as the fragile state of their hearts. But machinations of a madman bent on revenge could destroy a budding romance, and when the specter of death makes an appearance, Jonathan must finally decide what it is he desires the most.

My Review

Three words. Spies. Relics. Romance. My three favorite things in books! When their story was hinted at in Caught with a Stolen Diamond I knew it was going to be a wild adventure, but had no idea of what it was between them. There is so much heat between them that it practically jumps off the pages. They are truly a unique couple that are opposites but perfect for each other. I was holding my breath wondering what was going to happen and wanting to know who was behind everything.

Sophia is the boldest heroine I have ever read and she my all time favorite! I loved her from the moment she stepped on the ship, but even more when she didn’t back down. She never gave up on him once she got to know him and saw the real him. When she kept at him to not give up was amazing. I loved how you could tell her tone depending on if she used his title or name.

Jonathan has the weight of so many things on his shoulders that he needs to let go of. Even though he one of the most stubborn people he is really very sweet. I loved that he didn’t send her back home and took her with him without a thought. The journey of him letting go of the past and realizing his true self was amazing.

My Review

As always Ava knows how to write the Christmas magic. I couldn’t put this one down especially once I realized who the girl was. They in no way got off on the right foot and I wasn’t sure how they would get on the right track, but when they did it was perfect. The little things of his siblings and great aunt and her uncle were just the right touch to add to the magic. I couldn’t believe who kept pushing them together! I loved the end where he understood the fire iron.

Theresa learned from her past what following your heart can lead to and she will not let that happen again. I loved that she would go toe to toe with him, but also listened and understood him. She knew he was different from others.

Berks made a dumb choice when he decided to never marry, and he knew it once he saw her. Behind that serious face is a man you love for saying things wrong and listening to his friends. I loved him the moment he went out in the snow storm.

My Review

This is an amazing love at first site story that is fun to read with its little twists. The moment they met I knew it wasn’t going to be a simple courtship but was going to be fun. I loved that he kept making deals with her to help her. The story about her why her friend was missing was said, but I had to cheer at what happened when he found out.

Miranda is not a person to give up on something she is set on. I loved her from the start because she wasn’t going to give up easily. When her brother told her what to do I knew she would find a way around it.

Harry didn’t know what he was in for when he met her. I loved how quickly he was hooked and how everyone noticed the change in him. He listened when she needed someone to about her friend and got to the bottom of it quickly.

My Review

A wonderful quick read! I was hooked from the start with her brother’s banging on her door. The moment they saw each other again it was an instant spark. I really liked how she found out about his scheme because it was different from most. You have to love her brothers because they wanted her happy even if they weren’t happy with the choice.

Pippa knows her own mind and when she sets her mind to something there’s no stopping her. I loved her right away because she didn’t hide from anything and didn’t hold a grudge. She was not afraid to tell her brothers what she wanted.

Jason had a reputation that he didn’t hide, but the real him came out as soon as his friend talked to him. He can instantly charm anyone, but he knows there’s a line he can’t cross. I loved when he kept thinking about what his friend said.

My Review

I was so excited to read this one because of the blurb, but it just wasn’t my style in the end. There was too much conflict between them for me and I think if it had been longer it would have worked better. I did really like when they finally gave into the spark between them. The story with her sister was really interesting and I liked it a lot. I wanted to strangle the other guy from the start because he even showed hints of his true character and no one saw it.

Catherine went into the marriage with not the best intentions, but her love for her sister was a good reason. She was stubborn which was nice until she needed to listen to someone. I did like how she understood when she heard the full story and opened her heart again.

Glenarvon could come off as cold, but really things just came out wrong. I did like him when he dropped his walls and let his heart take over. He really had good intentions even though the way he went about it was a bad idea.

First comes love, then comes marriage. Unless it’s the other way around. . .

General Mark Grimaldi has sacrificed everything for his military career, working his way through the ranks without the benefit of a nobleman’s title. Now, his years of dedication are about to pay off—with an offer for a prestigious promotion to Home Secretary. There’s only one condition: Mark must be married. Aside from the small matter of not actually wanting to be wed, Mark faces another troubling problem: he already has a wife.

Nicole Huntington Grimaldi has spent ten contented years in France without her husband—and without regret. When Mark asks her to return to London and play the part of his beloved wife, she sees her chance. But neither of them is prepared for news that will throw Mark’s future into chaos…nor the undeniable desire they’ve rekindled. Maybe happily-ever-after can happen the second time around in A Duke Like No Other, the next Regency romance from Valerie Bowman.

My Review

I was hooked from chapter one with the news that he has a wife. Even after being apart for so long that fire was still between them no matter what they tried to tell themselves. I loved the back and forth when making the deal for her to come back to London and how much they thought alike. The shocking news was nothing I could have seen coming or expected what would happen afterwards. They both had things in their past that were surprising and amazing.

Nicole is straightforward and not like other ladies around her. I loved her right away because she enjoyed messing with him and the work she did. She thought she could detach herself from him, but her heart knew better.

Mark would do anything to get what he set his mind on excepts for revealing his secret. He is one that you have to get to know and understand. I loved him because of how he tried to control things, but it didn’t go as planned and because he put others first when needed.

Dukes don’t need help, or do they?

Michael Redmond, the Duke of Cortland, needs to be in London—most expeditiously—but a band of highway robbers have thwarted his plans. Purse-pinched, coachless, and mired in mud, he stumbles on Lilly Beauchamp, the woman who betrayed him years ago.

Ladies can’t be heroes, or can they?

Michael was her first love, her first lover, but he abandoned her when she needed him most. She’d trusted him, and then he failed to meet with her father as promised. A widowed stepmother now, Lilly loves her country and will do her part for the Good of England—even if that means aiding this hobbled and pathetic duke.

They lost their chance at love, or did they?

A betrothal, a scandal, and a kidnapping stand between them now. Can honor emerge from the ashes of their love?

My Review

I don’t think I’ve ever read one that intertwines the past and present like this and I loved it!! You really get to know both of them so much and it makes them seem so real. It was an adventure from the start with them and finding out who was behind the robbery. They didn’t realize it, but everything was working to bring them together again. I was holding my breath wondering how everyone would react and then the kidnapping had me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to do a happy dance when everyone came together to and supported love. I loved Hugh and can’t wait for Natalie’s story. I also loved that it handled some real history.

Lilly did what her father wanted all those years ago and now she was free from it all. She broke my heart when she talked about doing what her father had wanted. But her spirit wasn’t broken and I loved how she wouldn’t give up and her love of animals. She didn’t hold onto the past like some would.

Michael had changed in those years for many reasons, but duty doesn’t always win. I loved how even though he was a duke he saw the need for change to help others. When he saw the paper I knew a fight was coming. His story about what his father said made me tear up.

This book does contain a scene between Lilly and her husband that could be triggering to some due to the nature of it. Annabelle did a great job of handling it and I feel it was needed to understand things.

The Somerset sisters, three beautiful, headstrong debutantes in Regency London, are discovering that a bit of scandal is a delightful thing…

For the sake of propriety, and her younger sisters’ reputations, Iris Somerset has kept her rebellious streak locked away. But though she receives a proposal from Phineas Knight, Lord of Huntington, Iris can’t marry a man she knows isn’t truly enamored with her. In fact, Iris no longer wants to be chosen—she wants to choose. Under the clandestine tutelage of “wicked widow” Lady Annabel Tallant, she’ll learn how to steer her own marriage prospects—and discover her secret appetites.

What kind of debutante refuses a marquess? Finn is surprised, a little chastened—and thoroughly intrigued. This new, independent version of Iris is far more alluring than the polished socialite she used to be. Finn believed he needed a safe, quiet wife to curb his wilder impulses. But the more Iris surprises him, the more impossible it becomes to resist their deepest desires.

My Review

This was my first time reading one of Anna Bradley’s books and I’m hooked! I knew there was more to both of them and they just needed to let it all out. From that moment in the garden, I knew they both were going to need help and that there were going to be some surprises along the way. I loved Lady Tallant’s way of helping and what she always said was her reason for it. When they finally got everything out it was like an explosion through the house. The ending was perfect for many reasons.

Iris has kept her true self hidden for a long time without fully realizing it. I loved her from the moment she didn’t run right away in the garden because it showed she was tougher then she looked. She needed to learn about herself to understand more about everything around her.

Finn is an honorable man, but not anywhere near as boring and cold as he seems. I loved slowly getting to know and understand him and once that wall went down I needed a fan. There is a charm to him and the way things don’t always come out like he wants and him learning about himself.

This book was 1001% worth the wait! The artifacts and The Order continue to lead you on a fun adventure with unexpected twists that will surprise you.  Their first meeting is one of my favorites because I knew it was going to be fun. I loved how there was an instant spark between them. I never saw the twists with both of their lives coming and had no idea what was going to happen. I loved that there was some real history included and Gideon was great! The ending was perfect and I can’t wait for the next one.

Amelia will not hesitate to do what she has to keep her family legacy preserved and find the dagger and heart. I loved her right away because she wasn’t going to let anything stop her. She was a fast thinker that knew how to trick someone quickly.

Penn put everything into his work only to have a shocking twist thrown at him. I loved that he always was honest and encouraged women like her. He knew what he was going to do and what he wanted and just needed a plan. He is one of my top book boyfriends.

Excerpt

Penn enjoyed watching her animated expression change as she’d relayed the tale. “You’re a romantic.”

Her brow pleated for a moment. “Not particularly.”

He wasn’t sure he believed her, but he’d have to take her word for it since he barely knew her. Though he hoped they were rectifying that.

He did?

Did he hope to know her better? Certainly, if it meant gathering information he needed to find the real heart and dagger. As to that—he needed to convince her to accept his partnership, especially if the Order was involved. “The Order’s primary objective is to keep the Thirteen Treasures—and really anything to do with them—from being found or publicized. They want them to remain a legend.”

“But one of them is in a museum.”

He lifted his right shoulder. “Or not.”

She rolled her eyes and pursed her lips. “Does the Order agree with that assessment?”

“I can’t say for certain—let me be clear: I am not a member. Members are, for the most part, descendants of the knights.”

“How can that be possible if it’s all a legend?”

“The Order wants everyone to think it’s all a legend. I didn’t say they believed that.”

Mr. Tarleton returned with Penn’s breakfast.

After the innkeeper left, Mrs. Forrest shook her head. “That seems ridiculous. What is their reasoning?”

“That the treasures are too powerful, that if they were to be found, they would cause strife and conflict.” He sliced off a piece of ham and brought it to his mouth.

“War?” She stared at him a moment, and her shoulder twitched as if she suppressed a shiver. “My grandfather told me once that he gave the heart to the museum because it was far too valuable to keep. He feared someone would steal it.”

Penn relaxed slightly. Her sharing such a thing with him was progress.

Her brow furrowed once more and stayed that way as she spoke. “What he said in the letter… Was he afraid of this Order? Do I need to be concerned?”

It was the perfect opportunity to bind her to him, to encourage her reliance, but he’d also said he wouldn’t lie. “You do not need to be afraid. Concern, or wariness, is always a good thing. Even if you decide to associate with me.”

She gave him a dark but curious stare. “And what do I need to be wary about with you?”

He didn’t think she meant any sort of innuendo, but his brain took that route automatically. Lout. “I don’t plan to steal anything from you. I merely want to share information so that we may get to the heart—pardon the pun—of the matter.”

She rolled her eyes again, but this time, the edge of her mouth ticked up with humor. He suppressed a smile before taking another bite of ham.

After he swallowed, he said, “I only meant that being guarded will serve you well. That said, you can trust me.”

She let out a short laugh. “One of the first things you said to me was that you didn’t trust me, and now you expect me to trust you?”

He had said that, blast. And he’d meant it. Did he trust her now? Not completely. But then the list of those he trusted completely was quite succinct—his parents and his sister. “How about we give it a try?”

There was something about her… Something he wanted to discover. She, like all women, was a mystery. The difference was that he wanted to investigate this one.
