When the new earl inherits, poor relation Miss Rebecca Bond must wed immediately or be out on her ear. The only man she’s ever loved is summoned to hear the will—but he already rejected her so soundly that they haven’t spoken in years. Yet who better than a rakish Viscount to teach her how to snare a gentleman who appreciates her charms?

Daniel Goodenham, Lord North Barrows, regrets nothing more than the lost friendship with the one woman who treated him like a man, not a title. Fate has given him the perfect pretext to win her forgiveness—even if it means having to matchmake her to someone else. But now that she’s back in his life, he’ll do anything to convince her to choose him instead…

This story was first featured in the Vexed anthology.

My Review

Loved the start of this story! I was shocked that pretty much everyone in the castle forgot she was there and thought everything was a ghost. The new earl seems to not care what happens to her as long as she is gone and he doesn’t have to take care of her. I loved the maze and how the back story.
You have to love Rebecca from the start. She kept herself busy by going over the estate books and correcting figures and she would stand up to anyone. She had no desire to marry and could actually make it on her own, she had proved that already. She is still angry at Danial but understood why he did what he years ago.

Danial did not come off as the rogue as much as I expected, but I loved him. He loved being in parliament and doing everything involved with it more than the parties. You fall in love with him the moment he leaves for the castle because what he did has bothered him for years.

I was expecting more from the haunted castle and for some reason, I want to know more about Danial’s grandmother and why she acted like she did. Overall a good story to get you in the mood for Halloween.

Excerpt

Just as the last hint of sunlight slithered past the horizon, the rocky, wind-lashed terrain of Cornwall came into view. Daniel straightened his spine. The chill was already seeping through the cracks in the buffeted carriage.

The driver gulped, his gaze uncertain. “Nightfall has arrived, milord. Shall I find a posting-house?”

Daniel shook his head, his skin tingling from the close proximity to Castle Keyvnor. “No. Let’s keep going. We’re almost there.”

Even as he said the words, the monstrous castle rose from the darkness, its looming towers an even deeper black than the interminable night enshrouding them.

A familiar prickle danced across his clammy skin as the carriage rattled over the ancient bridge across the long-dry moat, and on through a massive iron gate. The castle looked darker than he remembered. Larger. More menacing.

Rebecca was somewhere inside those walls. He just had to find her.

He dashed from the carriage and up the slick stone steps of Castle Keyvnor as torrents of rain spilled from the black, thunderous sky.

The horrendous downpour was not only a fitting welcome back to the castle grounds, but the only weather he ever recalled Castle Keyvnor having. If the sun happened to shine over the sparse seaside village of Bocka Morrow, the castle was still be buffeted by icy winds and cloaked in shadow.

Ignoring the sheet of rain cascading from the brim of his beaver hat, he reached for the brass doorknocker dangling from the maw of a stone lion.

The door swung open before his fingers even touched the knocker. Yet no one presented himself.

Daniel straightened his spine. No sense dallying. Time to head straight into the mouth of the beast.

Morris, the castle’s longtime butler, strode into the entryway just as Daniel slid his soaked top hat from his head.

No point in asking who had opened the door, given that the butler was only now arriving. Castle Keyvnor never had answers. Only a surfeit of questions.

“Lord North-Barrows.” The butler smiled. “Right on time. Your chamber has been readied.”

Daniel didn’t smile back. Nor did he know how he could be right on time, when he hadn’t sent word of his impending arrival because even he hadn’t known for certain when he would arrive.

As the butler divested Daniel of his wet outer garments, a quartet of footmen emerged from a darkened corridor without being summoned and marched outside to the waiting carriage.

Daniel eyed the castle’s dark interior with apprehension. If the servants knew he was coming, why the devil couldn’t they light a sconce or two?

“The footmen will bring your trunks to your chamber shortly.” The butler gestured toward the main stone staircase. “A fire awaits you in the hearth.”

Of course it did.

Daniel inclined his head, eager to dry himself before a fire regardless of how or why its warmth awaited him. But a shimmer of white caught his eye.

An apparition had appeared at the top of the stairs. No—not an apparition.

Rebecca.

Her bone-white gown fluttered from one of the castle’s many drafts, giving her haunting silhouette the blurred edges of a ghost. From this distance, the features of her pale face were smudged by shadow. The glossy dark curls he recalled so fondly were invisible against the yawning blackness of the unlit upstairs corridor. His entire body was on edge.

Nervous, he smiled up at her.

There was no way to know if she returned his smile.

He doubted it. The last time he’d seen her at Castle Keyvnor, he’d cruelly rejected her in front of witnesses. And the last time she’d been in London…he hadn’t spoken to her at all.

His chest tightened. He was lucky she hadn’t come to the landing solely to toss water upon his head.

Perhaps she was saving that for later.

“Rebecca?” Because the soaring stairwell had no balustrade, Daniel placed his damp palm against the cold stone wall for balance. The last thing he needed was for wet soles to send him sliding to his death before he could even make his grand apology.

“It’s Miss Bond,” floated the soft, familiar voice from overhead.

“I know,” Daniel called back as he hurried up the rest of the stairs. “Rebecca, it’s me. Daniel.”

“I know,” she echoed as he rounded the final step. Her eyes were dark and luminous in the pale porcelain of her face. “Good evening, Lord North-Barrows. I trust Morris has seen to your luggage.”

Ah. So he had lost first-naming privileges. And was to be treated with the same distant politesse one might use to welcome a stranger.

He deserved that and more.

“Please,” he said. “You must still call me Daniel. I know I was awful to you, and you have every right to be vexed with me. I admit it. I behaved abominably and am here to apologize. I was foolish and wrong.”

“Were you?” Her expressionless dark eyes gazed right through him. “I’m sure I don’t recall.”

His muscles tightened. Of course she recalled. She had the cleverest mind of anyone he’d ever met. But by pretending she couldn’t remember his crimes, she didn’t have to forgive him. Or acknowledge his heartfelt apology. He forced his fingers to unclench.

Despite the murky shadows of the ill-lit corridor, she was even more beautiful than last he’d seen her. He drank her in. She had been the prettiest of that year’s crop of debutantes during her come-out five years ago, but now she was ravishing.

Girlish cheeks had turned into high cheekbones. A willowy frame had become womanly curves. Her innocence had been replaced by mysteriousness. He didn’t know this Rebecca Bond any longer. But oh, how he wanted to. If only they could erase the past.

He yearned to reach for her. Once, she would have welcomed his touch, his embrace.

Tonight, she was just as likely to push him off of the landing.

This was my first time reading a book by Philippa Jane Keyworth and I am now a fan! I stayed up until 2:30 am reading the whole book. I love that this one had the powdered hair and beauty patches because I rarely see books with that. They seemed like totally different people, but were alike in many ways when the walls were down. I was not expecting the twist with the Marquis and what he would do or how her brother would be.

Caro is a strong woman that has done what she must to survive after her father dies. I was on edge thinking someone besides Tobias would start to figure it out. She tried so hard to convince herself that Tobias plan would end a different way.

Tobias was very different because he was a gentleman when he wanted to be, but most of the time he said and did what he wanted. I loved how he started changing when he realized his father might follow through with his threat and when he met Caro.

I loved Lady Felton because she was not as quiet as you think at first. I love a good duel scene!

About the Author03_philippa-jane-keyworth

Philippa Jane Keyworth, known to her friends as Pip, has been writing since she was twelve in every notebook she could find. Originally trained as a horse-riding instructor, Philippa went on to become a copywriter before beginning a degree in History. A born again Christian, Philippa lives in the south of England with her handsome husband.

Philippa has always written stories and believes that, since it is one of her loves and passions, she always will. In her early writing career, she dabbled in a variety of genres, but it was the encouragement of a friend to watch a film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice that began her love affair with the British Regency. Since then, she has watched every Regency film and TV series she could get her hands on and become well acquainted with Georgette Heyer’s novels which gave her the inspiration to write her own.

Both as a reader and a writer, Philippa believes it is important to escape into a world you yourself would want to live in. This is why she writes stories that will draw you into the characters’ joys and heartaches in a world apart from our own. Her debut novel, The Widow’s Redeemer (Madison Street Publishing, 2012), is a traditional Regency romance bringing to life the romance between a young widow with an indomitable spirit and a wealthy viscount with an unsavory reputation. The novel has been received well by readers and reviewers who have praised the heartfelt story and admirable characters. Her second novel, The Unexpected Earl (Madison Street Publishing, 2014), explores another romance in the Regency era when an impetuous young woman has her life turned upside down by the reappearance of the earl who jilted her six years ago. Her third novel a Georgian romance will come out at the end of 2016.

Stolen by My Knave by Dawn Brower

I normally don’t like books that involve time travel, but the prologue in this one hooked me and I liked it a lot. I really liked the whole story and the bits of back story to make everything more understandable. This has a fairytale romance feel which I’m always up for. I loved the way they interacted with each other and the little twists. I wished it was longer because I kept wanting to read more.

Elizabeth is definitely my kind of heroine. She is bold and speaks her mind no matter what. I loved her when she was trying not to roll her eyes and that she didn’t back down from what she wanted.

Jack is also bold and speaks his mind. I loved him when he told his tale and realized connections between them. He knew what he wanted and was quick to make it happen without anyone knowing what he was doing.

Enticed by Lady Elianna by Amanda Mariel

This one has a Cinderella feel and I love it! I was shocked from the beginning when her cousin arrived because of how he talked to her and then tricked her. One of my favorite parts was their meeting because I did not see it coming. I wanted to jump up and down at the ending.

Elianna’s life was torn apart when her father died and her cousin moved in, but she never gave up on one day getting her life back. I love the bit of rebellion in her when she made up her mind to do something. She was always was nice even when she was treated horribly.

Garrett see’s people for what they are and he doesn’t really hide his feelings. I loved that from the start he was determined to find the truth and set out to do it. He definitely was not one to be messed with and would make sure you paid for it. I wanted to know more about his past.

Rose is a woman that would want on my side because she was not afraid to fight.

The Ugly Duckling Debutante by Meara Platt

My Rating:  ❤❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋

This one matches it’s title perfectly. I loved how this one played out and that it also included ducklings to add to the story. Their first meeting was different and perfect because they probably wouldn’t have met any other way. There is a bit of a twist in the end and I wasn’t expecting what was happening in his family.

Gennalyn broke my heart. Her life had been turned upside down, her relatives treated her horribly, and everyone called her names and paid no attention to her. She needed a friend to help her before she wasted away. I loved that she talked to animals and was so excited to see her blossom.

Roarke seems perfect but he has his own problems. I loved how he was with his brothers and what he did with his father to help his brother. He saw the real Gennalyn when no one else did and would not give up on her no matter what.

The youngest girl is one I saw hope for in the end.

A Diamond for a Duke by Collette Cameron

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋💋

Another great fairytale feeling book! I love when wallflowers find love with someone that no one thinks they would. It was clear from the moment they saw each other that they were going to be together. I loved Aunt Teo and Lady Lockhart because they were definitely not women to be messed with.

Jemmah has let her mother and sister walk all over, but she finally had enough. I loved her from the start and when she stood up to her mother. She never held anything against anyone and didn’t look down on herself.

Jules has decided to put off marriage until he felt like he had after his past. You have to love him because he makes it quite clear what he wants and that he will do whatever it takes to marry who he loves.

There are many characters that made me want to know more about them.

His Elusive Nightingale by Ari Thatcher

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋💋💋

This one is different and I love it. I absolutely love the title and the whole mystery of where did the singer go and why did she leave. I loved that it started out has a challenge for him and a way to make money for her but quickly turned into more. I was not expecting the bit of a twist with the duke and the singer because I couldn’t decide on why he wanted to there so badly.

Kitty is a maid that has her own secrets and reasons to protect her boss. I really liked her from the start and how she got along with people. I loved how she wasn’t really shy and made sure she didn’t forget about her family.

Malcolm Doesn’t care about the money he just likes the challenge of finding the singer. I loved how he tended to be very straight forward when talking and didn’t think about how people would react.

The Fairy Palace by Sue London

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋

I was glued to this one. This one is really like a fairytale from the start when he takes her to London the way he does because of the thrill of it. It’s a bit like a whirlwind with the twist that they have known each other for years. I loved how they just got each other and knew what the other needed. His father was a bit surprise and I wasn’t certain what he would do until the end.

Melanie is such a sweet girl even though she is a tiny bit bold. I liked her a lot especially when she was at the ball having fun because she was like a little girl. She is one you will love right away.

Oscar is a bit wild, but also a poet and followed his heart at the drop of a hat. I liked him from the start because I didn’t know for sure what he would do at any time. He is one that is different and a nice change from many.

Hunting for A Lady’s Heart by Tammy Andresen

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋💋💋

This one is full of magic and a battle. Their meeting was definitely a shocking one and meant to happen for a good reason. I loved the whole family being involved and that they didn’t bat an eye at anything. I wasn’t sure how it would end and loved the ending.

Eirwen is a very sweet and would never hurt someone even though she’s been hurt multiple times. I loved her and that she was battling not just her stepmother, but her fears. She is powerful in many ways.

Will is someone that will do anything to protect those he loves. He is very understanding of things and listens to everything and everyone around him. I loved him from the start and how he was with his family.

TO SAVE HER FAMILY, SHE MUST BE VERY, VERY BAD…

Miss Judith Pengarden has a problem: her family is in debt, and soon will lose their home. What’s a dutiful sister to do to save her loved ones from ruination? Why, steal a few items from an aristocrat’s house–items he’ll surely never miss–and sell them to pay her family’s debts. Luckily for her, she meets Simon Montgomery, the new Earl of Cartwright, a recluse familiar with antiquities. He can help her keep her family from debtor’s prison, and he might just claim her heart too. Except instead of stealing from Simon’s neighbor, she breaks into the wrong house…

Simon is determined to change the way the world sees his family, even if it means he can no longer pursue his dreams of being a scholar to take on his new title. When a thief breaks into his home and steals a precious family heirloom, he vows to get the item back. The last thing he expects is that the girl he met at a garden party is a thief! When Jude is discovered with his possessions, how will she ever convince him that despite her deception, her love for him is the truth?

My Review

This one will definitely keep you guessing at times. I was never sure what was going to happen and when it would happen throughout the book. They both were doing what they could to help their families just one wasn’t a good idea. Their families are very unique and different, but lovable. I loved the ending a ton and how everyone reacted.

Jude is a very smart lady. I did love that she wanted to help her family no matter what. When she set her mind to something she did it even if it wasn’t for herself. She is a bit quieter than most, but not really shy.

Simon is the shyer one out of the two. I loved how awkward he could be and how smart he was. He definitely has had his struggles but is determined to take care of his sister and make sure his family is restored.

I really wanted to know more about his sister and mother. The same for her sister and trips.

The wounded hero comes home.

Six years she has waited for the man she hopes to marry to return from war and propose to her. When he finally does, he is so far in his cups as to not remember the event the next morning! Miss Jane Marwick can’t decide if she has wasted her heart on the wrong man or if he just needs some time to recover from too many life-changing events.

Stephen Lumley isn’t sure he’s capable of being a good husband to any woman, but he only has a few months to convince himself and Jane he is worthy of her love, or she’ll be off to London to find a man who is. He’s not certain what his future will bring, only that he needs Jane in it.

My Review

I love stories that have a wounded hero returning home and this one was good. I liked how everyone was like a huge family and knew that they were meant to be together and tried to help. It covers a few months, but it’s not jumpy and flows nicely.

Jane is a sweet girl that has always loved Stephen, but something she witnessed in the past and seeing him drunks causes fear to come between them. I liked her, but also didn’t like her because she kind of played with him by going back and forth.

Stephen is a wounded man physically and emotionally. He comes backs wounded thinking no woman would have him and then is hit with more bad new that sends him into his cups. He had to prove to himself that he was worth something.

Can two people whose life paths are at odds find common ground?

My Review

I rarely read historical romances that have pirates, but I loved this one! I was drawn in from the start with Prudence and her papa then shocked by his murder. I liked that they had a bit of a connection from the start and that they both had their secrets.

Prudence is a strong girl that knows what she has to do and won’t let anything get in her way. I loved her strong will and that she knew when she could trust Jasper and let everything out.

Jasper may be a pirate, but he is still a gentleman and an honorable one. I loved his story and how he was quick to realize what he needed to do. His secrets will warm our heart and pull at it too.

This is a great quick read!

***As seen in the holiday anthology TIS THE SEASON***

FOR LOVE…

The second of five impoverished sisters, Miss Elinor Conley knows her dream of becoming a lady is farfetched. When an unmarried gentleman happens by her brother’s smithy, it is up to her to act quickly—and rashly—to secure his interest. But Grantham Wendell, Earl Chelford, isn’t in the market for anything more than a new horseshoe. What’s a bachelor to do when an innocent miss turns up at his Christmas Eve bacchanalia? He ought to make her leave, but his Twelfth Night party just became more entertaining…

My Review

This a sweet little Christmas time read. Elinor set her cap on Grantham after seeing him at her brother’s smithy and comes up with a plan to marry him, but it doesn’t quite go as planned. There are some twists that I loved like her aunt that I wasn’t expecting and his party that was very scandalous.

Elinor is bold in her plans but didn’t think it through all the way. She is extremely innocent which is cute at times and it somewhat protects her from things.

Grantham has this scandalous the party every year to cover up his pain. He quickly changed his thinking once he saw Elinor and tried to protect her.

If you like sweet read then you will like this one.

Will they come together to share a unforgettable Christmastide.

My Review

I had been waiting for this one and it did not disappoint! In the first book of this duet, Lady Natalie was the girl that caused the problems and you hated her for it, but her story will melt your heart. She isn’t a heartless mean girl she is actually lonely and insecure and her parents don’t help. First, she feels like her best friend betrayed her and then is told she is marrying a man she has never met or heard of. The man she has loved since childhood still sees her as the spoiled little sister of his best friend that followed them everywhere.

Natalie tries to be the lady her parents want by doing what they say, but she still is a bit childlike at times which I think is the reason she comes off as heartless when she acts out when she feels hurt. She slowly changed a bit as the story went on and realized things are not always how they appear.

Christian seems very sweet even with his reputation. There is humor in the way he sees her as a little girl and when he loses at the game he fears what she may have him do. He slowly starts to realize she is a woman now and can’t understand why he isn’t happy to see her married to someone else until he kisses her.

This is a sweet fairytale romance and a must read.

The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor, Book #3
Greetings,
In regards to the Matter of the un-entailed Estate of the late-Jonathan Hambly, 10th Earl of Banfield, be advised that your attendance is urgently required at the reading of his lordship’s Last Will & Testament, to take place on November 1st of this year at Castle Keyvnor in Bocka Morrow, Cornwall.
Regards,
Mr. Timothy Hunt, Esq.

When the late-Earl of Banfield’s distant relations descend upon Bocka Morrow, they’ll find gypsies, witches, pixies, smugglers, and one very haunted castle. And if they’re lucky, they might just fall in love while they’re there.

MYSTIFIED, The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor includes:

Renee Bernard’s The Sweetest Curse
Blade Hambly believes in three things: logic, science and the notion that if a man just keeps his eyes forward, he is unlikely to be tripped up by the past. But how does a man keep his thoughts cool and focused when he meets a young woman like Miss Elethea Fairfax? A woman who heals with the touch of her hands, who talks to the air and radiates magic with every other-worldly fluttering of her eyelashes? What does a man of science do when the woman he is falling in love with is a witch?

Jerrica Knight-Catania’s Possessed by the Stranger
Lady Samantha Priske can hardly wait to make herself scarce in the allegedly haunted residence of her late great uncle, the Earl of Banfield. And when she meets a handsome stranger who is blessedly not a relation, she finds herself flirting uncharacteristically with him. Chadwick Kendall isn’t thrilled to be at Castle Keyvnor for the blasted will reading. His father is dying, and he’d rather be by his side. But Chad finds something at Castle Keyvnor far more valuable than anything the earl could have left for him: A beautiful redhead, whom he must convince to be his bride.

Erica Monroe’s The Mad Countess
Theodore Lockwood, Earl of Ashbrooke, has been in love with his best friend, Lady Claire Deering, for as long as he can remember. Claire too harbors a secret desire for him—but a witch cursed her family with madness, and she’s terrified she’ll only hurt him if they act on their feelings. When a will reading at a mysterious castle in Cornwall brings them both together, they’ll work to break her family’s curse…and find true love.

The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor includes twelve Regency romance novellas. Don’t miss the anthologies Vexed, Bedeviled, and Spellbound.

The Mad Countess by Erica Monroe

This is one of my top three in The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor anthologies! I was so engrossed in it that I read it in about an hour. I loved that they had been best friends forever because it made the story even better and everything happens at a great pace because of it. The rain in the maze scenes are my all time favorites and what some dreams are made of. I loved the detail that went into the witches and everything when breaking the curse (another favorite scene). Finding out a bit more about her mother and aunt was great especially finding out it was a curse and why the curse was put on them. My favorite lines included unicorns.

Claire’s heart is in the right place at all times. She thought she wasn’t strong, but she was because she visited her mother when most wouldn’t and she didn’t run from anything. I loved her spirit and how close she was to her maid.

Teddy is someone you fall in the love with from the start. He is not your typical hero he has many fears, loves to learn, and when he sets his mind to something he does it. I loved everything about him from the way he did things to the openness of his heart. He never lied or brushed off anything without proof and wanted to help.

The ending was amazing! I wasn’t left wondering about anything.

This was a great read. The beginning with Chad will pull at your heart and you will feel for Samantha from the start. Little Toby was once again driving his sisters crazy by trying to protect them. I loved how they first saw each other and were drawn to each other so quickly. There is so much to love about this one from seeing the gypsy wedding to the ending that leaves you wanting more because it was fantastic.

Samatha is different from her sister. She always seems to say the wrong thing but doesn’t shrink away from anything. I loved how she tried to be like her mother wanted, but her true self always showed. When she set her mind to something she meant it.

Chad is someone that I don’t think could ever make someone mad. He is just so sweet and loveable. I loved how close he was with his father and that he didn’t care about titles. He understood her when no one else did.

You will love this one.

The Sweetest Curse by Renee Bernard

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋

The beginning will suck you thinking the curse has struck someone else. I loved seeing a bit more about the coven and the small battle between science and magic. Elethea’s father and grandmother are both very different in how they want her to be, but they both want her to be happy. I loved the parts where she used her touch to heal! This was a little fast paced, but it still was a great story.

Elethea seems like a very quiet girl that does as she is told but she does have a mind. I was not expecting her to stand up for herself when she did and it made me love her even more. She was very sweet and loved to take care of people.

Blade’s name draws you to him. I loved that he didn’t try to explain away what he saw or was told like most men of science would. He tried to avoid the past and the curse out of fear of what his mother had said before she died and how his father raised him.

The ending was perfect.

The only man she’s ever loved is summoned to hear the will—but he already rejected her so soundly that they haven’t spoken in years. Ava Stone’s Once Upon a Moonlit Path

After all, the castle is famous for its hauntings. But the very last person, dead or alive, she expects to find there is the rakish Lord. St. Giles. After all, she spent the last season hiding from that very man.

Elizabeth Essex’s Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Nessa Teague has never believed in the magic that swirls around her village like a fine Cornish mist. She’s never had need of it. Until the day Lord Harry Beck returns to Bocka Morrow and Nessa realizes there is nothing, including the blackest of magic, she won’t do to have him for her own.

Romancing the Rogue by Erica Ridley

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤

I always look forward to books like this from Ava Stone because she knows how to give you the chills with the ghosts along with a great romance. I got the chills from the moment they arrived at the castle and almost jumped whenever the ghost showed up. I loved the story of the first time Jack saw Cassandra and how they acted together.

I loved Cassandra and felt so bad for her with how her parents treated her like she was crazy. She is just so sweet and innocent and open to things that people didn’t understand. I was glad to see her stand up for herself in the end.

Jack can charm anyone even a reader. He used his charm when needed to help Cassandra and it wasn’t a show. He just was naturally charming, but also had a trick up his sleeve at times. The way he interacted with Cassandra’s brother and her dog could melt your heart.

Oscar the poodle just adds to the fun of the story and so did Cassandra’s cousins and the gypsies. The ending was unexpected and I loved it and didn’t it to end! I really want to know who the ghost was.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by Elizabeth Essex

This was my first time reading a book by Elizabeth Essex and it did not disappoint. I loved how this one was in the village and showed more about the free trade as they called it. I was excited to see the witch and the magic from back then. I did not expect the small mystery involving treason and Nessa’s family and I had no clue how it was going to turn out until the end. I laughed when Nessa finally spoke her mind and told Cods off and almost thought a ghost was going to pop out in some areas. The ending was great and a bit of a surprise.

I just love Nessa’s name and how sweet she is. She always was the good girl her father wanted until she had enough of doing everyone else’s work. I liked that she was protective of her family but also used her mind and didn’t make excuses for it.

Harry is an interesting man. You would never think he was a lord by the way he talked and acted because he was truly meant for the sea. He didn’t hide things from Nessa and always said what was on his mind.

I wish there was more back story for both and I wanted to know more about Nessa’s sister, but it was a great story. The squire’s daughter was a very interesting person and a bit scary with her plans.
