Hiding from the horrors of her past, Miss Martha Haskett is content living her days serving as a lady’s maid to her friend Eliza, the Marchioness of Lansdowne. But then her father, the new Earl of Waterford, shows up, with the shocking news that she is now a titled lady. Further turning her life upside down, he proposes a bargain. She will have a single Season in London, and if she does not marry by the end of the Season, she will be gifted with her dowry and a small estate. Despite her mistrust of her father, Martha accepts his offer, but can’t seem to let go of the anger that has been festering inside of her, or her discomfort with a position in Society where she feels she does not belong.

Dr. Emmett Maddix is tired of the frivolity of the ton and spends his time atoning for his past sins by providing medical care to the poor. His life takes an unexpected turn when he is recruited to be an agent of the Crown. He is assigned to run a charity hospital as a front to collect information about a vicious band of smugglers known as The Cursed Lot, who have managed to overtake the entire town of Gravesend with a reign of murder and oppression.

As Emmett delves further into The Cursed Lot’s domain, he quickly discovers that not everything is what it seems, and it will take far more than one new agent to take down this ruthless gang. While the tangled web of intrigue begins to unravel, Martha and Emmett battle an undeniable but unspoken attraction that grows between them. But before either can be ready to share their hearts, they must overcome their past mistakes, and find their own reasons to keep fighting. With more than just their hearts at stake, surviving the mission will be more difficult than either of them could ever imagine.

My Review

This one will rock you to your core. It’s a journey to love through some shocking twists and learning to let go of blame. It’s a really nice change to see the hero be the one to saving someone from the dark they’ve put themselves in. Their relationship was very different and really took time to turn from friendship to love. I had a feeling to what her father was up to but had no clue to what everything was going to be. I didn’t see who was behind everything coming at all or the twist of the bow street runner. I got Musketeer vibes in the one scene and loved it! As always I love scenes with Shadow and her bow and when the others mention their name or her’s. I was holding my breath near the end. I was so excited to see what happened for them afterward.

Martha was shattered because of what she endured and Emmett was the perfect person to help her and understand her. She needed saving from her darkness before it was too late. She was also stronger than she thought and I loved seeing her grow stronger. I cheered when she stood up for herself and used that letter opener. She wasn’t going to let him slip away.

Emmett hasn’t let go of his self-blame fully, but he saw it in her and knew he had to help her. He helped himself by helping her. He was also stronger than he thought because he showed so much restraint in many situations. I loved how he wouldn’t give up on her and didn’t push.

This book could be triggering to some as it deals with rape and trafficking. There are no detailed scenes and it’s only talked about, but trauma and aftereffects play a big part in this story.

AN HEIRESS FALLS FROM THE HEAVENS…
When Bermudian salt heiress Caitrin Beckett drops out of a tree in her haste to escape a brothel, she comes face to face with Lord Daniel Westham and instantly catches the rogue’s attention. Luckily, she secures his promise to help her locate a childhood friend who’s gone missing in London. Now if only she can keep from losing her heart to the charming rake in the process.

My Review

Ava can write a sweet book that is still full of passion and tension like no other. The moment she came face to face with him I knew they were going to be a fun couple. There was an instant connection between them that everyone could see. I was not expecting the ending to her search for her friend. I loved how they could understand each other and tell their secrets. I also didn’t expect what made him realize he loved her.

Caitrin has no plans to live in England or let her heart be broken again. She wasn’t afraid to do anything and could take care of herself. I loved her right away because she wasn’t going to sit in that room and wait to see what happened.

Daniel will melt your heart with how he is with his niece. He enjoyed the way he lived, but that changed when he met her. I loved that he didn’t put on an act and even with his reputation everyone loved him.

Mrs. Brodie’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies appears exclusive and respectable, a place for daughters of the gentry to glean the accomplishments that will win them suitable husbands.

But the academy is not what it seems. It’s more.

Alongside every lesson in French or dancing or mathematics, the students learn the skills they’ll need to survive in a man’s world. They forge; they fight; they change their accents to blend into a world apart. And the staff at the academy find a haven from their pasts…and lose their hearts.

The Way to A Gentleman’s Heart by Theresa Romain

Eight years ago, impoverished gentleman’s daughter Marianne Redfern fled her Lincolnshire home when her first love was forced to wed another. At Mrs. Brodie’s Academy, she learned the arts of cookery and self-defense—and as head cook, she can manage her staff, feed hundreds, and take down thieves. But she has no defense against Jack Grahame’s unexpected arrival two weeks before a dinner that will secure the academy’s fortunes.

Now a wealthy widower, Jack still has a wicked twinkle in his eye and a place in Marianne’s heart. Before long, he’s at her side in the kitchen all day and the bedchamber all night. But forgiveness doesn’t come together as easily as a sauce, and the wounds of the past could ruin Jack and Marianne’s chance at a future…

Counterfeit Scandal by Shana Galen

Bridget Lavery gave up her son Jimmy when she was sent to debtor’s prison. Now that she’s free and has found steady work at the academy as a teacher of art and counterfeiting, she’s desperate to reunite with her son—but he’s lost in the warrens of London’s streets. When she encounters Caleb Harris, a man from her past—a man she thought was dead—he agrees to help in her search. But both Bridget and Caleb have secrets. Some of them deadly…

Caleb Harris is a man with a price on his head. He knew his work during the war was dangerous, but he didn’t think it would haunt him the rest of his life. Before he left for the war, he and Bridget had a passionate affair. Finding her again means everything to him. He wants to help her and he definitely still loves her, but loving her might just be too dangerous for either of them.

The Way to A Gentleman’s Heart by Theresa Romain

My Rating: ❤❤❤ 1/2 Spice Level: 💋💋

I love a past love story and that this one was very different in how things happened. Family came first and tore them apart, but he never stopped loving her. I really liked how he came back into her life and helped in the kitchen. The story about his sister was a surprise and explained a lot.

Marianne found her own way after having her life flipped upside down. I liked that she didn’t hate him for doing what he had to for his family. I couldn’t really understand her reasons for not seeing or writing to her family.

Jack did what he had to and never gave up on getting her back. I really like him and that he made sure her family was okay. He didn’t really let money go to his head and wasn’t afraid of work.

Counterfeit Scandal by Shana Galen

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋💋

This one will suck you in from the start! The war tore them apart, but they were meant to be together. I loved that they worked together to find Jimmy and it brought them closer. There are a couple of scenes that had me holding my breath waiting to see what happened. The ending was perfect.

Bridget had a very hard life and her son his the driving force that keeps her going. I loved her right away with how honest she was with the girls about things. She put her anger aside and opened her heart again.

Caleb is always looking over his shoulder because his former work haunts him. I loved that he was determined to be honest with her and not hide anything again. He still wanted to protect her.

Today, VIOLET WINTERS is a grown woman sailing the seas on her French stepfather
’s privateer, dreaming of commandeering a ship of her own. However, when she stumbles upon a betrothal announcement of the man she was set to marry, Violet cannot help but feel honour-bound to protect the woman who had been forced to take her place.
Fortune smiles on Violet and delivers an English lord into her hands – and with him the chance to return to England unrecognised.

OLIVER CORNELL, EARL OF CULLINGWOOD, is trapped in a life he abhors. Not seen as a son, but merely an heir, he dreams of sailing the seas, the epitome of freedom.

My Review

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋

Fate brought them together not just because a young lady needed saving, but because they needed each other. Every page turn brought something new to their romance and the story. There was a spark between them from the moment they met and it started their adventure. I could not put it down from the moment I picked it up. There were twists at every turn that I didn’t see coming and had me gasping and holding my breath at times. They were truly meant for each other and everyone could see it just by looking at them. The ending to everything was perfect. This was my first time reading a book by Bree Wolf and I can’t wait to read more and get to know characters.

Violet is driven by the need to rescue this girl and give her the chance to make her own choices. I loved her right away because she ran her life and was pretty much equal to the men around her. She had a large family behind her that supported her no matter what. She could use a dagger too and wasn’t afraid to use it or do what needed to be done to save her love.

Oliver seeks something more in life but doesn’t know what it is until he meets her. He was a thousand times more than what he father saw him has. My heart broke for him every time his father spoke, but he found the family he deserved. I loved that he didn’t hold back his emotions and would do anything to help others. He found what he needed in the end.

Giveaway question: Have you ever ended up somewhere by accident?

Excerpt:

Coming to stand beside her father, Violette could feel the stranger’s gaze on her, and she could not help but glance at him out of the corner of her eye. He had thick auburn hair, some strands dark, almost black, while others seemed to gleam in a dark red in the early morning sun. His pale blue eyes held curiosity and a sense for adventure. He stood tall, shoulders squared, and chin raised, meeting her father’s threatening gaze unflinchingly as he answered his questions with a strong voice. Still, there was a slight tremble in the way he held his hands linked behind his back, like a fish out of its element, nervous about what to expect.

“I ask you again, sir,” her father repeated, his dark eyes narrowing as he fixed the stranger with a sharp gaze, “what is your name as well as your purpose upon this ship?”

The stranger inhaled a slow breath, and his eyes flitted to Violette’s…as though she was his confidante and he needed her to reassure him. Strangely enough, Violette could not help but feel touched by this measure of unexpected trust.

“I’d appreciate it,” her father’s sharp voice cut through the moment of silence, “if you could refrain from staring at my daughter.”

Instantly, the stranger’s head snapped around to face the angry captain. “Your daughter?” he echoed, a touch of relief in his voice before his gaze met Violette’s once more.

Drawing in a slow breath, Violette tried to hide the unexpected shiver that danced up and down her spine at the intense look in the stranger’s eyes. Why did he look relieved? After all, he had no claim on her. They had not even met before today.

As suspicions rose in her mind, her eyes narrowed. What were his intentions? Was he an agent of the British crown?

“Speak!” Like a whiplash, her father’s voice cut through the air, the expression dangerously calm as he stared at the stranger.

To the man’s credit, he did not flinch. Instead, his gaze drifted to Violette one last time before he nodded. “As you wish,” he said, his voice even. Still, Violette thought to detect a hint of apprehension. “I’m Oliver Cornell, Earl of Cullingwood, and my purpose on this ship is…none. It was an accident.”

Although her father’s face remained mostly unreadable, his eyes narrowed. “An accident? Explain.”

Clearing his throat, Lord Cullingwood averted his gaze momentarily as though ashamed of what he was about to divulge. “Quite frankly, I spent the night in a tavern by the docks and…somehow found my way onto this ship. I do not recall much else until I woke up when we were already under way.”

Amused chuckles rose from the men of both crews as they observed the scene with interest.

“I see,” her father mumbled. Then he lifted his gaze and allowed it to sweep over the ship’s deck before turning to Henri by his side. “Bind his hands. Then take him to the Chevalier Noir,” he ordered before he turned to the rest of his crew standing guard around the sailors of the merchant vessel. “Lock them in the storage rooms below and then ready the ship. We’ll head back to France as soon as possible.”

The stillness on deck vanished as the prisoners were escorted below, loud footsteps and harsh curses echoing to Violette’s ears as she stood and watched her cousin tie Lord Cullingwood’s hands.

An English lord, she mused. He would have been the kind of man she would have been acquainted with had she stayed in her old life, would he not? Would he be able to tell her something about–?

No! Inhaling a deep breath, Violette pushed that thought away. After all, she could not believe anything he might say. He was English.

Seven swoon worthy historical romances in one must read collection:

Lord of Pirates by Scarlett Scott

When a dangerous-looking stranger raps on Lizzie Winstead’s door one stormy night, the peace of her humdrum life is shattered. She’s shocked to discover her visitor is Captain Edmond Grey, one of the most feared pirates of the realm and her lost love. Edmond is a wanted man throughout the Colonies, but despite his formidable reputation, he desperately needs help to nurse his wounded brother back to health. Only Lizzie can be trusted not to turn Edmond over to authorities for the price on his head. Is the love they once shared strong enough to reunite them forever and conquer the demons of Edmond’s past?

Scandalous Endeavors by Amanda Mariel

Sparks fly as the Duke of Goldstone and Lady Amelia find themselves at odds with each other and drawn to each other at the same time. Can they find a way to stop arguing long enough to explore their growing passion?

Grace Captures the Captain by Gemma Blackwood

The last thing Grace Rivers expects when she is sent to the country in disgrace is to receive a proposal from a handsome young army officer she hasn’t seen in years. Captain Charles Everly’s motive is far from romantic – his object is her inheritance: the beautiful country house that was his childhood home. As unexpected feelings develop between them, Grace’s past and Charlie’s rash actions throw everything they hold dear into peril. They must each decide which they value more: their childhood dreams, their damaged reputations, or their newfound love.

Searching for my Rogue by Dawn Brower

Alys Dewitt has always dreamed of finding her very own happily-ever-after, but she never would have envisioned the path she’d have to fall down to find him. James Kendall, the Duke of Weston returns from war to find an injured woman on his estate. She mumbles strange phrases and keeps calling him by another name. Thinking her a bit mad from her wounds, he takes her to the manor and calls for a doctor. As days goes by they are drawn to each other. If they’re brave enough they’ll discover a love that defies time.

Unmasking a Duke by Ellie St. Clair

When the life of his brother, the Duke of Elenford, is threatened, Lord Andrew Stephens must determine which of his enemies intends him harm. When Andrew takes the Duke’s place at a masquerade ball, he meets a woman who takes his breath away and haunts his dreams. Arabella Marley’s father gambled away their family’s most precious heirloom and is determined she will gain it back for him, no matter the cost. He presents her to the man believed to be the Duke at a masquerade ball, and she is shocked to find him both handsome and agreeable. She must guard herself against his charms to find her family inheritance and keep her heart intact. Can Andrew and Arabella fight the love that grows between them, or will the truth be too much to overcome?

My Enemy, My Earl by Tammy Andresen

Fleeing London, and scandal, Lady Clarissa Burton runs directly into the wife-hunting Earl of Dumfries while traveling on a rutted Scottish road. She wanted peace in Scotland, not a tall and brooding laird who makes her forget that handsome lords are nothing but trouble.

A Most Inconvenient Love by Jillian Eaton

Rough and common, Aiden Donovan is the exact opposite of Evie’s boring-as-lint fiance. But from the first moment they bump into one another on a crowded street, she finds herself utterly captivated by his dark roguish charm. As the day to her wedding draws closer, will Evie listen to her head? Or for the first time in her life will she risk everything to follow her heart?

My Reviews:

Lord of Pirates by Scarlett Scott

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋💋💋

The passion between these two only got stronger over the years. This is a quick and steamy read that will take your breath away with their love and everything that happens. I was left holding my breath a couple of times and cheering at times. They definitely were meant to be together and the ending proved that even more.

Lizzie is a fiery one that doesn’t hold anything and is straight to the point. I liked her from the start with her reaction to his news. She is a strong woman that won’t go down without a fight.

Edmond thought he made the best choice, but his heart and fate took him o the right path back. I liked him because he tried to keep away from her, but couldn’t keep up the wall.

Scandalous Endeavors by Amanda Mariel

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋💋

Scandal always makes for a great and book and I loved this one. I was a bit worried about her wanting to trap a husband, but she was desperate and it made perfect sense at the time. Instant attraction drew them to each other, but stubbornness from both caused conflict. I loved every time the interacted because I never knew what would happen.

Amelia is a bold girl that shocked people at her father’s funeral and she is not afraid to cause a scandal if it means she gets to stay in London. She loved her father but hated the rules of society and it was understandable that she wanted to dance and be herself.

Lord Goldstone had no plans of being the prey to a lady’s attempt to trap him again. He kept finding himself protecting her from scandal while trying to understand her plan. I loved how he kept fighting with himself over being drawn to her but avoiding the trap.

Her uncle was a very nice man and had good intentions when he planned to take her to America. Lady Grace is definitely a friend you want to have.

Grace Captures the Captain by Gemma Blackwood

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋

This is a great feel-good romance that I couldn’t put down. I was shocked by the way they got engaged but loved how they were with each other from the start. I did not expect the twists about her reputation coming but loved how it made him react. Her mother was amazing and her father deserved everything he got. I was a bit sad at the ending but loved what it meant.

Grace listens to heart and even when doing what her father says that spunk is there. She didn’t dwell on the past and I loved her when she would speak up. I really loved how she understood him more than anyone else seem too.

Charlie has a fast temper, but his heart is leading the way most of the time. He found what his heart really needed when he met her. I was holding my breath when he was on that hill and then when he went to talk to her father.

Searching for My Rogue by Dawn Brower

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋💋

I’m not usually into ones like this, but loved it! They were both in positions they didn’t expect, but they were meant for each other. I loved them together especially when she took his challenge. I loved their battle and wasn’t sure if one would give in or not. I didn’t expect the twist of what happened to make them realize they loved each other. Love his sister and the back and forth between her and his best friend. Loved the thing about the painting.

Alys is one of those heroines many readers can relate too. She can take care of herself and knows how to take command of things. I loved her right away with her love of books and how she talked to men.

James needed her and he didn’t even know it. I loved how quickly he became protective of her and that he understood her. He didn’t think the way most men did and was willing to battle her.

Unmasking a Duke by Ellie St. Clair

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋 1/2

I love a good mistaken identity and ruse story. This is one of my favorites because both were doing it for other people. That spark between them was there from the start. I loved how they were alike in many ways. There were signs from both that something was up, but love is blinding at times. Did not expect his brother to come back like he did and wished to have seen something happen with her father.

Arabella is stronger than she realizes and deserves love. I loved her right away because she stayed true to herself and wanted to be honest. She took on her father and didn’t run or hide.

Andrew was doing what he needed for his brother and just got caught up in the life of his brother. I loved him right away because he didn’t set out to what happened. He stayed true to himself too and would do anything for her.

My Enemy, My Earl by Tammy Andresen

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋💋

Fate brought them together when they both needed each other the most. There was a spark from the start, but it was a long winding road to both seeing the love between them. Twists and turns bring them together and pull them apart and didn’t know what was going happen with them. Loved the ending and wanted to know what happens with the rest of the family.

Clarissa is a truly broken woman and running from it all. She was angry at everyone involved including herself and believing all men the same. I loved when she stood up for herself and finally let go of the anger.

Ewan is a true gentleman except when alone with her. I loved him from the start because he cared about everyone. He needed her and knew it, but had to convince her that not all men are the same.

A Most Inconvenient Love by Jillian

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤ Spice Level: 💋💋

This one is a whirlwind fairytale romance. I really liked the whirlwind of it and how they were clearly meant to be together. They are opposites, but also the same in many ways. I loved the bit of a twist with her fiance and how her friends kept pushing her. The ending left me wanting more.

Evie is not someone you will love right away. She is doing what her mother wants and it’s turned into a cold person. I liked her when she had that fire lit inside her and followed her heart.

Aiden knew from the moment he ran into that there was something special about her. I really liked him and wished there was more about him. He pushed her to follow her heart.

First paragraph excerpt from each novella:

Lord of Pirates by Scarlett Scott

Edmond Grey knew he damn well didn’t want to be a baker. Apprenticed from the time he was but a lad, he’d grown weary of flour, of baking buns, of never leaving the tedious life of shopkeeper. He’d finally settled upon the path that would lead him far away.

Scandalous Endeavors by Amanda Mariel

Amelia stood as still as a hollowed out tree as drizzle coated her body in cool little beads. Dark clouds hung stationary overhead. Water spattered into a small, deep hole carved out of the rain-soaked ground. She surveyed the surrounding landscape speckled with memorial stones and decorated in wilted flowers. Why?

Grace Captures the Captain by Gemma Blackwood

Blast that scoundrel’s eyes!” cried Captain Charles Everly, rising to his feet. “I’ll call him out this instant!”

Now, Charlie,” said his sister, affecting the most soothing tone she could manage. “That is uncalled-for, and you know it.”

Mrs Alison Henshaw, who was born Alison Everly, had only had a matter of hours to grow accustomed to the change in her brother. He had joined the army a big-hearted boy of twenty-one. This grown man who had returned from the war that morning was bearded, rash, and angry. He was no longer the sweet Charlie she thought she knew.

Searching for my Rogue by Dawn Brower

Aly, have you seen my shoes?”

Alys Dewitt rolled her eyes. “Did you check under the bed?” Her younger sister, Regina, was constantly losing something. They both sat in Regina’s chamber wearing their undergarments covered by a silk robe. If it wasn’t one thing, her sister would make something up so the attention would fall back to where she believed it belonged—on her.

Unmasking a Duke by Ellie St. Clair

I am not sure I agree with this,” Elias Stephens, the Duke of Elenford murmured with a frown. “The whole idea seems quite ridiculous.”

Lord Andrew Stephens, brother to the Duke, sighed in frustration as he attempted to convince his brother to do as he suggested. It had always been something of an impossible task, given that they were both as stubborn as mules. “Elenford, be reasonable. If there truly is someone attempting to harm you — perhaps even kill you,” he exclaimed, “then it is best you go into hiding for a time. We need to ascertain exactly where these threats are coming from.” And perhaps if you are gone for a time, without the ability to do further harm, they will stop entirely, he thought, though he didn’t voice his words aloud.

My Enemy, My Earl by Tammy Andresen

Lord Ewan McDougal, Earl of Dumfries, took a deep breath of Scottish air as he trotted down the rutted road toward Kirkcaldy. It was so good to be back in his home country. Even with the misting rain, the fresh smell of spring flowers lifted his spirits. With any luck, he’d never step foot on soil that wasn’t Scottish again.

A Most Inconvenient Love by Jillian Eaton
Genevieve knew she was beautiful. She knew it in the same way she knew it was raining outside and whenever Uncle Rigby came for dinner he would be half foxed and far too handsy for his own good. Her beauty was a fact, not an opinion. A fact she had been living with for her entire life.

Former covert field agent for the Prime Minister, Felicia Adler wants a normal life living as a wealthy widow. Unfortunately, a man from her past won’t allow her this comfort. He’s back to bring havoc into her life and play with her heart just as he’d done four years ago. But her mother’s disappearance forces Felicia to rely on him. If that’s not enough, her spirits are trying to keep her out of danger and help her find love in her life, once again.

Investigative officer for the Metropolitan Police, Sebastian Harrington sails all the way to Italy to find the thief he’s been hunting for over a year now. When he meets her face-to-face, he’s shocked to see the woman who’d stolen his heart and crushed it four years prior. Now he needs to find evidence against her, have her arrested, and transport her back to England to stand trial. If only his heart will allow it.

My Review

If you are looking for a suspenseful read with a touch of paranormal then you will like this one. It just was lacking in the romance department for me. I loved everything surrounding the hunt for her mother and how they bantered back and forth at times. But for a couple that had been so in love four years ago that spark just wasn’t there. They worked great together and I didn’t see the twist about her husband coming. The flashbacks were my favorite and helped with understanding them more. I loved the spirits and how they tried to help.

Felicia has an amazing gift and she regretted what happened four years ago. I really like her and understood why she did what she had to. Her spirits were really trying to help but just didn’t make it clear. She wanted him to understand.

Sebastian wanted his thief, but he had blinders on. His broken heart was controlling him and he wasn’t looking at the big picture for a long time. I couldn’t get into him for the first half of the book but did like him as time went on.

After a failed abduction attempt, Lady Rachel is sent into hiding on her uncle’s estate near the sleepy village of Rockcliffe on the shores of Scotland. As she struggles to cope with the nightmares of her past, she unwittingly stumbles into even greater danger than she left behind. And this time, Shadow isn’t around to save her.

Luke Beckett, the Marquess of Downshire, was content running his stud farm in solitude, far from the scheming of the devious women of Society. That is, until his neighbor’s infuriatingly contrary niece rides into his life. Hiding behind the guise of a common horse trainer, he begins to form a peculiar friendship with Lady Rachel, without the constraints of his title. However, the longer the ruse continues, the more Luke realizes there is much more at stake than just their friendship.

With the looming threat of a French invasion, Luke and Rachel must work together to stop the tangled web of treachery before it is too late. When the truth is finally revealed, will they have the strength to trust each other with their hearts, or will the fear of rejection destroy their relationship before it has a chance to begin?

My Review

Oh, what a tangled mess leaving out a bit of information can become. With every book in this series, its get better and better. Laura just gives you more characters to love and nail-biting adventure that brings the spies together again. I couldn’t put it down from the moment Rachel started talking on the way to her uncle’s home. I knew it was going to be fun and a wild adventure. Their first meeting is one of the best I have seen and makes it clear they are going to be put through it all. I loved the twist on his ruse with how many people were involved and why. As with the other books, you will not see anything coming and will find yourself cheering, laughing, and crying throughout the story. Many answers are in this book, but just as many new questions to keep you asking for more.

Rachel definitely has been through it all, but it hasn’t killed her heart of gold. She is a woman that makes her own choices and is not your typical Lady on the ton. I was excited to see her get her own story and get to know her more. I loved that she wanted to help everyone, but wouldn’t hesitate to lay into them as needed. She didn’t give up easily and did things she never imagined she would have to.

Luke has a hard shell and won’t win you over right away, but you will love him as you get to know him. He hates what society expects and wants to avoid marriage and women for the most heartbreaking reasons. I loved that he didn’t realize how much he could scare people and when he was cornered by his siblings. He would give up everything for her even if it meant himself.

I will never get tired of the Beckett family or Mr. Larson. I hope to see more of Rachel’s cousin because of his story and David’s sister because she seems like she will be fun.

Can her gentle tenacity unlock a duke’s heart?

Lady Tricia Riley is the sweet daughter of a duke until her family’s ailments force her to breech societies’ dictates and go where no lady should… the docklands. When a tall, strong and handsome stranger helps to keep her safe, she agrees to keep their meeting, secret. She’s no interest in marrying a tall and darkly handsome stranger. Actually, she has no intention of marrying at all. Instead, she plans to dedicate herself to charitable pursuits.

Ryker Pembroke, Duke of Landon, will marry eventually, as duty requires him to do. But it is a fate, he regards with a certain amount of dread. That is, until an auburn haired minx bursts into his life. Her warmth, charm and giving nature draws him to her even as he attempts to maintain a safe distance. She is entirely wrong for him with her impulsive nature and blatant disregard for her own safety makes her a terrible choice for a wife… doesn’t it?

This is a stand-alone romance with a lovely HEA! The heroine does appear in the Earl of Sussex: Wicked Earls’ Club. And the books that follow will all be connected with the Earl of Sussex and his lovely bride, Tabbie.

My Review

This a lovely quick story that is a great start to a new series. Their first meeting was very different and led to a mystery that I couldn’t figure out and a whirlwind romance. I loved how they were with each other from the moment they met. They were perfect for each other. This story will hook you on wanting to know what else will happen in the series.

Tricia is on a mission and no one will stop her. I loved that she was the quiet daughter but quickly showed her true colors. She thought she knew exactly what she wanted to do in her life. I loved her from the start because she didn’t run from anything.

Ryker is a mysterious man that keeps to himself and does a great job at finding people. He quickly made his mind up about her and would do anything to protect her. I loved him right away because he is not the typical Duke.

Read the sixth installment of the Highland Heather Romancing a Scot Series for a suspenseful Scottish historical romance awash with intrigue, seduction, and passion you won’t want to put down.

My Review

A Scot and a Southern Belle are a different and amazing couple! Almost killing him was a great way to meet and their interaction afterward guaranteed they weren’t going to be like most. The passion between them practically jumped off the pages. I was sucked into trying to figure out who was the would-be killer and did not see who it was coming at all and that is rare for me. Accents are done perfectly and there is a fine use of “bless your heart” in this story.

Gwendolyn is a tough as nails southern belle that has absolutely no problem saying exactly what she is thinking. She put others first at every turn and even was willing to give up her future. I loved how she never shied away from anything and was ready to battle.

Dugall instantly knew what he wanted the moment he saw her, but getting it was not going to be easy. He would do anything to help and protect her and her family. I loved him from the start and how he was always honest and didn’t hide things.

Absolutely loved the kids, the southern sayings, and Gaelic. I felt like I needed a fan when picturing Dugall talking.

Scandal proves deadly in this dark, emotional Gothic Regency Romance

Lady Jemma Forster knows all too well how ruthless gossip-mongers can be. She sacrificed her own happiness to restore her family’s reputation. She leads a sedate, practical life as the Countess of Wolverston. Until her husband is murdered, and the only man who can bring his killers to justice is her former love.

Bow Street Runner Gabriel Sinclair has spent the last three years trying to forget about smart, beautiful Lady Jemma, who broke his heart when she married his best friend. The Earl of Wolverston’s death thrusts Gabriel and Jemma back together, as they work to find his murderer. Their investigation takes them into the darkest, most dangerous parts of London, with threats coming from all sides. They’re perfect partners for solving crimes, but can they be partners in love too?

Previously released in It Started With a Whisper

My Review

As with all of Erica’s books, I’m hooked right away and there’s always a twist to surprise me. I loved the whole story surrounding their past and her husband sounded like a good guy. I was shocked by who the killer was, the reason for it and what he did afterwards. The note she found was definitely a scary surprise, but also sweet in a way. I loved seeing Claire and Felicity again and how they were involved with things. The scene with her and the woman that had information was a favorite along with the scene about the grave.

Jemma knew who to call for help with not just the murder, but her heart too. I loved her and how she couldn’t really lie and didn’t really care what others thought. She did really care about her husband and had a special relationship with him. I didn’t expect her to be a good fighter to when in trouble.

Gabriel has always loved her and it was no secret to most people. I loved that he understood her and her reasons for marrying her husband. He is one of those people that you want to be friends with no matter what.

I also love Lady X’s little scandals she wrote because it added to it.
