Genre: Historical Romance, Regency England

Release Date: September 19th

Length: 588 Pages

Three innocent debutantes must work to solve the mysterious death of their childhood friend. With undaunted determination they pledge to not only expose the man responsible for their friend’s tragic death on her wedding night, but to also uncover other unscrupulous men of the ton who would jeopardize the future of other young women.

The Disappearance of Lady Edith, The Undaunted Debutantes (Book One)
One tragic night changed sensible, proper Lady Edith Pelton’s life: when her best friend fell to her death, pushed down a flight of stairs by a nefarious lord. Now, Edith dedicates her time watching the man she thinks is responsible, while gathering other information to expose other scoundrels posing as gentlemen of honor about London. But when her spying is noticed by a perfect stranger, Edith finds herself with two mysteries—what happened to her friend, and how to win the heart of a brilliantly handsome lord.

The Misfortune of Lady Lucianna, The Undaunted Debutantes (Book Two)
Lady Lucianna Constantine, a quick-witted hellion, has no doubt who is responsible for the murder of her dear friend—and she will stop at nothing from exposing his transgressions, and those of every despicable man in London. Though her two dearest friends were unwilling to point a finger at the dastardly man, Lucianna has witnessed the cruelty of London’s Beau Monde her entire life…starting with her own father. She is more than willing to singlehandedly take down every vile man that crosses her path. However, what happens when a most honorable man discovers Luci is the abhorrent woman who ruined both his life and stripped him of his rightful future?

The Misadventures of Lady Ophelia, The Undaunted Debutantes (Book Three)
If only Lady Ophelia Fletcher—quiet, reserved, with her nose always stuck in a book—had witnessed the death of her friend that fateful night. Now she writes a column, Mayfair Confidential, that she uses to expose men with unsavory pasts to make amends for holding her tongue the night her dear friend was murdered. She is more than willing to never call attention to herself. But when a handsome stranger arrives to meet with her father, Ophelia can’t help but do a little investigating for her own benefit. At last, Ophelia has stumbled upon an adventure of her own—but does she possess the skills necessary to solve the mystery without the assistance of her friends?

Release Tour: The Marooner (Pirates of the Coast Book 3) by Barbara Devlin!

Today we celebrate the release of
The Marooner (Pirates of the Coast Book 3)
by USA Today and Amazon All-Star best-selling author Barbara Devlin!
Publication date: August 29, 2017
Genre: Historical Romance

Barbara Devlin offers history, romance, and mystery all wrapped up in an engrossing story that is filled with witty repartee and ribald scenes that border on debauchery. ~IndieReader

Inside the Book:

A GENTLY BRED VIRGIN
Lady Sophia Grace Radcliff, the epitome of a genteel Englishwoman, has no idea what awaits her, when she is summoned to her father’s study to meet her prospective husband. Given the miserable state of the family finances, she understands she will be sold to the highest bidder, to save the earldom from a humiliating declaration of insolvency, and it is a sacrifice she is prepared to accept. But the impeccably tailored garb and clean-shaven face do nothing to conceal the menacing demeanor of her intended. How will she survive a match to a man she fears?

A COLD-HEARTED PIRATE
Leland Stryker, known throughout the pirate ranks as The Marooner, for his practice of abandoning his victims on deserted islands, is a ruthless buccaneer who reluctantly signs a pact with the English, in exchange for a full pardon for past crimes. But the Crown extends no protection to the fairer sex, and it is in the sensual realm that Leland feeds his basic instincts. After he successfully negotiates the purchase of a highborn bride, he proceeds to well and truly debauch her. But something happens on the journey to America, as his wife assumes her position without complaint, and soon Leland realizes he faces his most lethal opponent. Who will win the battle of the hearts?

The Marooner Excerpt

“Good evening, Mr. Stryker.” Another in a long line of chits paraded past, batting her lashes at him, and he waited for some sign of life below his belly button, as he dipped his chin.

“Good evening.” Thus far, his notoriously fickle interest rejected every single blushing debutante, but he was in no rush to the altar.

Known throughout the pirate ranks as The Marooner, for his habit of abandoning his victims on deserted islands, a practice he considered far more charitable than gunning down, running through with a sword, slashing with a knife, or feeding to the sharks, as did other buccaneers, patience guided his every move. Whereas he always thought it unfair that the general public deemed him heartless and brutal for leaving his quarry to their own fate, his colleagues viewed his eccentricity as a sign of weakness.

For most marauders, innocents manifested prey to be consumed, in some form or another, if only to provide amusement for the crew. For Leland, those who had the misfortune of falling into his custody, through no fault of their own, other than happenstance, presented a connection to his childhood, to the young lad sold into servitude because his parents could not afford to feed him. Perhaps that was why he could not, by his own hands, kill the guiltless.

“My, my, Lady Sophia, what an interesting ensemble you sport, tonight.” An unseen female snickered in a nasty tone. “Is that not last year’s fashion?”

In that moment, he came alert.

“This is my favorite gown, so I see no reason to dispose of it, simply because it might offend your delicate sensibilities.” Given the cutting retort, the heretofore-unfamiliar Lady Sophia charged the fore, as she piqued Leland’s curiosity. “As always, Miss Barty, you exhibit the stellar comportment one would expect of a lady. Your parents must be so proud.”

“My father says your father has driven the earldom to ruin, and you have no dowry.” Now that bit of information snared Leland’s attention, because it made his goal much easier. “Such a pity. Who will have you now, when you possess naught but a good name to recommend you?”

“Certainly not that delicious Mr. Stryker from America.” So another tormentor joined the fray, and he gritted his teeth. “I mean, he could afford to marry anyone.”

“Why would he settle for nothing but an empty title?” Miss Barty replied, in the shrill voice that grated his last nerve. “When he could have a woman of taste and fortune.”

If there was anything he hated, it was a bully, because he was small in his youth and often the recipient of abuse aboard ship. But as the boy grew into a man, and he gained physical strength, he never forgot the seemingly endless beatings, and he always championed the unfortunate.

Devlin’s prose and descriptions enchant right from the opening scene. ~RT Book Reviews

About Barbara:

USA Today bestselling, Amazon All-Star author Barbara Devlin was born a storyteller, but it was a weeklong vacation to Bethany Beach, DE that forever changed her life. The little house her parents rented had a collection of books by Kathleen Woodiwiss, which exposed Barbara to the world of romance, and Shanna remains a personal favorite. Barbara writes heartfelt historical romances that feature not so perfect heroes who may know how to seduce a woman but know nothing of marriage. And she prefers feisty but smart heroines who sometimes save the hero, before they find their happily ever after. Barbara is a disabled-in-the-line-of-duty retired police officer, and she earned an MA in English and continued a course of study for a Doctorate in Literature and Rhetoric. She happily considered herself an exceedingly eccentric English professor, until success in Indie publishing lured her into writing, full-time, featuring her fictional knighthood, the Brethren of the Coast.

Quiet, reserved, Lady Ophelia Fletcher always has her nose stuck in a book; hence why she didn’t witness the death of her friend the fateful night of her passing. Now, she writes the Mayfair Confidential column to expose unsavory men as a way of making amends for not backing her other friend’s claims of murder. When a handsome stranger arrives to meet with her father, Ophelia is helpless to keep from investigating the dashing lord.

Colin Parnell, Lord Hawke, has a promise to uphold: find the book that proves his grandpapa worked as a spy for King George II and did not die as a no-good smuggler off the coast of Kent. Shrouded in mystery and scandal, the Parnell family has been at war with one another for decades, and Colin is determined to put a stop to it all by discovering proof of the family’s honorable past. Unfortunately, the book he seeks is in the hands of a fiery-haired beauty, and he’ll need to enlist Ophelia’s help to uncover the truth.

*I received a copy from the author via NetGalley.

The perfect ending to a mystery! I loved it from the start and how everything kept me waiting to know how it would end. Molly adds a whole lot to the story with her interesting ways. The added mystery of the book was amazing and I loved how it brought everything together in the end. I did not see it coming when it was revealed who the murder I had my suspicions on the person, but wasn’t sure and thought something else.

Ophelia is my favorite out of the girls. She decided to go on her own adventure instead of following her friends around. I loved how she was with everyone especially Molly and that she wasn’t going to give up.

Colin is on a mission to end his family war and make his grandmother happy. The way he is with his grandmother will melt your heart and make you love him. I loved him right away and in the end when he was talking with his father.

Blurb

Difficult and defiant as a child, Bran Crowther, Earl of Knighton left England as a young man to pursue independence and adventure. He never expected to inherit the title and when duty calls him home, he still finds Society’s codes constricting and others’ expectations oppressive. Nevertheless, he needs a wife to be a mother to his young daughter, preferably a woman of intelligence and warmth who is, above all, immune to his idiosyncrasies—and to falling in love.
Widow Joanna Shaw isn’t interested in a second marriage, not after the loveless, passionless union she endured. She’d much rather dote on her young niece and nephew since they will likely be the only children in her life…until she meets a precocious girl, in desperate need of a mother. But her father, the so-called Duke of Defiance, is as peculiar as he is handsome, and Jo won’t take another risk with her heart. Their rules, however, are made to be broken, even when the consequences could destroy them both.

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review

Two words book hangover! I couldn’t put it down and couldn’t stop playing things over in my head. They are a unique couple and I love that there are kids in this one. Both were in positions they never thought they would be in and both had interesting back stories. You could tell there was something there from the start between them just waiting to explode. I loved the reasons they were working together and how the kids were working on a plot together. I didn’t see everything about her marriage coming or the letter from his father. The ending was perfect and I was jumping up and down.

Jo will win your heart right away. She had a horrible marriage that she kept to herself, but the way she was with kids was amazing. I loved that she didn’t push things on anyone and when she let everything out it was explosive, but needed. She deserved her happy ending.

Bran is a rule breaker and I love it. He clearly loved his daughter and would do anything to make sure she was happy. Once you find out about his childhood you understand him so much and more when his mother comes to visit. I really loved how he said things and that they usually didn’t come out right, but it was a cute quirk.

Excerpt

Feeling as constricted as he had in the ballroom, he shrugged out of his coat and draped it over his arm.

Are you disrobing again?” she asked.

You can hear that?”

I’m afraid so. But since I can’t see you, it really doesn’t signify.”

He chuckled, pleased with her logic. “As it happens, I’d already untied my cravat before I arrived here.”

I can’t even manage to feign shock.” Now her voice held a lilt of humor, as if she were smiling.

He laughed again, and a cool, early spring breeze wafted over him. How he missed the warmth of Barbados.

Will you tell me about it?” she asked.

Had he said that out loud—about Barbados? Apparently so. “I could stand here all night and not manage to tell you everything.”

Then just tell me something.”

He closed his eyes and summoned his home. “The colors there are like nothing you’ve ever seen—the blue-green water, the white-gold sand, colors that not even the rainbow can do justice to.”

It sounds beautiful.” Her voice was soft, almost reverent. “How did you decide to go there?”

He opened his eyes but still couldn’t see her. “That was where the ship was headed. I didn’t care where I was going, so long as it wasn’t here.”

You must have been terribly miserable.” She sounded as if she’d moved a bit closer.

I wasn’t needed here.” Or wanted, really. His entire family had encouraged him to buy a commission or perhaps take a vicarage. He’d considered both ideas, but after his brothers had spread that vicious rumor, he’d simply walked on the first ship leaving England. And he’d never looked back.

And now?” Her question whispered over him, lulling him with its sweet curiosity.

Now, I’m the earl. I’m needed.”

And your brothers are gone.”

He exhaled, as if realizing for the first time that they really were gone. That he could perhaps be here and be happy. Or at least not miserable. Still, it wasn’t home. Not yet. “I miss the blazing sun.”

Especially right now, I’d wager.”

He heard a tremor in her voice. “Wait, are you chilled? Where are you?” He reached out with his free hand and touched her.

Stepping forward—it didn’t take much to reach her—he settled his coat on her shoulders. “Better?” he asked.

Yes, thank you.”

He didn’t take his hands away. “Why did you come out here?”

I—”

He heard the hesitation in her voice and felt a shiver in her body. He didn’t think that was from the night air. “You can tell me. If you want.”

I felt…overwhelmed. As if I couldn’t breathe. I just needed to get out.”

God, he’d felt like that his entire life. “I was never able to sit still when I was younger. Or wear clothing. I often felt like I wanted to crawl out of my very skin. I used to scratch myself raw.”

That sounds horrid. How did you stop?”

I don’t know. Leaving here helped.”

And now that you’re back? Things aren’t as bad as they were?”

No, he supposed they weren’t. Just as he had a few moments ago, when she’d pointed out that his brothers were indeed gone, he felt a lightness. Because of her.

When I started reading Loveweaver I never expected it to end up as one of my favorite historical romances ever. It was such a unexpected but amazing surprise. I loved everything about this book!” – Bookfever Book Blog

Llyrica is a clever heroine who will have Slayde on her terms. Slayde, determined to resist, has not a prayer. Many secondary characters add to the story, making it a rich tapestry. And some exciting scenes will keep your heart pumping. It’s also intriguing with the spells woven into the cloth by the “songweaver”. My Review

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋1/2

*I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

The mystery continues! I love that this one picks up from the last one and that the beginning is from Luci’s point of view so it adds to the mystery and I still can’t figure out everything. The way her father was with everyone was shocking and I wondered if he was involved in anything because he was so cruel. The way they met is one of my favorite scenes because it’s very different. I loved they way they got her father to leave her alone and her mother who is very much like her.

Luci is definitely strong and independent. She is determined to take down any men that she believes have done wrong and to not marry who her father decides. I loved her every time she stood up to her father and when she set her mind to do something.

Roderick wanted nothing more than to find out who ruined his father. I was worried about him at first, but he quickly showed his heart and that he would help Luci. I loved him as soon as he met her father and when he told her about what happened.

I can’t wait for the next one!

Blurb

In 1814 London, England, a lady is defined as a demure, delicate flower. Miss Francine Annesley is not that lady. If men were like plants, she would have a garden of admirers to choose from instead of the thorn in her side since childhood, Julian Beckwith. But she would make an even worse nun than she does a lady, which will be her fate if she can’t dig up a husband before the Season ends. However, Julian is not an option.

With only ten short days left in the Season, Francine doesn’t have time to waste on petty squabbles or knee-weakening kisses, even if Julian’s offer to fulfill her every wish rouses her curiosity. It seems men are more complicated than plants. Too bad love bloomed at the most inconvenient of times…

My Review

*I received a copy from the author via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review

This one has a title that pulls you in and for good reason. I was shocked at her father’s threat of sending her to the convent, but even more that she had ten days to find a husband. I loved that they had been childhood friends because that always adds to a story, but I did not see the twist of why he was not an option coming and knew there was more to it which was another shocker I didn’t see coming. I loved her mother and her friends because you never knew what heir plans were. The ending was perfect because it was an unexpected one.

Francine is different because she studies plants and doesn’t play the naive girl. I cheered when she stood up to her father because she wasn’t going to be told what to do anymore. I loved how she changed and was determined to follow her heart.

Julian will make your heart ache in many ways. I loved him from the start because he saw her for her and helped her. When he fully told her why he couldn’t marry her my heart broke and then broke again when he was in the garden.

Excerpt

“Tell me about this plant you saw.”

“You know I can’t do it justice.” Mirth infused his voice. “I once described a rose to you as ‘red.’”

I chuckled. “Well, you weren’t wrong.”

“I also wasn’t very observant, as you pointed out for the next hour.” He shuddered. “It was very like schoolwork. I think you made me memorize the parts.”

I lifted my head. “I did not.”

“You made me repeat them so often, it felt as though you did.”

I smiled. “You didn’t get it wrong after that, did you?”

“Of course I did.” He barked out a laugh. “You know I have no head for that kind of thing.”

“No?” I shifted to study his face while we spoke. “I’d wager you could describe your crops to the tiniest detail.”

He shook his head. “Not even if you threatened my life. But I can look at them and tell you if they look…wrong.”

I laughed. “Is that the technical term?”

“You know what I mean.” He threw his free hand into the air. “Weak. Sickly.”

I grinned. I was only teasing him. Judging by the half smile turning up one corner of his mouth, he knew it.

“You did an admirable job describing the problem with your crops. The one I helped with.”

His arm tightened around my shoulders. “Thank you again, by the way.”

My cheeks heated as my gaze dropped to his mouth. The heat of his body surrounded me. I’d never felt so relaxed, comfortable and yet aware of him at the same time. Would he kiss me again? When he made no move to, I leaned closer. He didn’t pull away.

My Review

This is my first time reading a book by Elizabeth Keysian and I’m hooked! I loved how they were at odds at all times but drawn to each other at the same time. There are a couple twists surrounding his sister and what happened that I didn’t see coming. I loved the ending and how I never was sure what was going to happen.

Cassie is determined to get what she wants no matter what. I loved how she saw things from a calm point of view and defended people. She had to learn about herself and it caused some interesting things.

Ned has a temper but his heart is in the right place. I loved that he would go to such lengths to find out about his sister. He met his match with Cassie and learned to think before acting.

authorkate2a.jpgElizabeth first started writing fiction when she was eight, encouraged to do so by her Head Teacher father, who needed something to keep her quiet during school holidays. Her favorite topics were mermaids, ghosts, Norman knights and quests, and she illustrated and decorated her own books. She emerged from the world of her imagination to read History at the University of London, after which she spent many years working as an archaeologist and artifact illustrator. She then became a primary school teacher, after which she moved to museum education work, and display and collections management.

Elizabeth has been involved in Medieval, Tudor, and English Civil War re-enactment and has enjoyed sword-play and traditional archery, excelling in neither. She lived for seven years on a Knights Templar estate in Essex where she pursued her interest in historical textiles, cookery and medicine. She loves anything to do with the past, and still looks down holes in the ground to see if there’s anything archaeological in them. There generally isn’t.

She has written fifteen historical romances since moving to the West of England in 1997, the landscape and history of which have inspired the “Wayward in Wessex” series. Book #1 in the series, “Distracting the Duke”, has recently been published by Entangled Publishing.

*I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

What a great start to a new series! This one had twists and mysteries that I couldn’t figure out fully and I love that. I was not expecting the reason that she disappeared or who was behind it at all and never knew what was going to happen next with it everything. I loved their first meeting so much! The ending was perfect and I can’t wait for the next one to see how the story unfolds.

Edith is very different. She wants proof before she does anything and isn’t afraid of anything. I loved her from the start because she always seemed to have a plan and she spoke her mind. She also thought of others first even when she was in danger.

Triston will do anything for his sisters even when it mixes with his past. His scandal was not one I expected and it explained a lot. I loved him right away because of how he was with his sisters and that he was a quick thinker.

Excerpt

I have seen many oxen with broader shoulders,”—she smirked, pulling back and leaning to the side as if to get a glimpse of his backside—“and far more accentuated hindquarters.”

She gulped.

No laughter remained as he narrowed his eyes on her. “Did you just compare my physique to that of a farm animal?”

Edith took a step back—damnation, she would not cower to him. “If you prefer, I can select another animal. A donkey, perhaps? They are well-known for their obstinacy. Or better yet, an African lion, I have read they are intimidating creatures.”

You think me intimidating?” It was Torrington who took a step back this time, as if her words had wounded him. “Wait, do not answer that question—I have a far more important one: why do you keep appearing everywhere I am?”

It is not I who keeps appearing,” Edith corrected. “I was minding my own business outside of Abercorn’s townhouse. You are the one who scared me from the tree. And you were the one who caught my eye in the ballroom. And I was enjoying an afternoon in the park when—“ She clamped her mouth shut.

Enjoying an afternoon in the park until…you saw me and decided to follow?” he demanded. “I may very well be as large as an ox, or as stubborn as a donkey, or even as domineering as a lion, but at least I am not a snake—slithering and sneaking about, ready to bite and poison when the mood strikes.”

Edith gasped, covering her mouth with her hand.

Oh, you find it belittling to be compared to a bloody animal?” he sneered. “Well, I find it insulting to be lied to, followed, and scrutinized by a woman I do not know.”

Edith sighed. “I have not been following you, I swear to it.”

Not a complete lie, or at least she hadn’t been at Lord Abercorn’s townhouse to spy on Triston—she allowed herself to think of him by his given name—nor had she attended the ball with Ophelia and Luci expecting to see him. And the park, well, that was rather serendipitous. She had decided to keep an eye on him, but she’d never thought to follow him out of London proper.

Edith glanced to the window, but the drapes were pulled securely shut. “The day must be growing late. My parents will surely be wondering where I am when I don’t arrive home on schedule.”

I know what you are up to, Lady Edith Pelton.” His stance widened as he surveyed her from head to toe.
