Freed from the clutches of her cruel, traitorous mother and impostor husband, Lady Camden wants to rebuild her fractured life. But the years of terror and pain she endured at their hands continue to grip her heart in an iron vice. Refusing to stray from the refuge of her country estate, Kate tentatively agrees to an unusual alliance with the new Lord Camden, being mindful to keep her trust, and her heart, firmly safeguarded.

Adrien, the Earl of Camden, had lost everything he held dear while working undercover in France as an agent of the Crown, known only as Hawk. Now an earl, he wants only to repair his tattered, lonely life. His efforts are interrupted, however, when he is called to accept another assignment: Stop French spies from passing a bill in Parliament that will eliminate British aid in the war against Napoleon.

When Kate’s past pulls her into a web of treachery and deceit, a life she is wholly unprepared for, Adrien must use any means necessary to stop the French spies from succeeding in their evil designs and keep her safe. When the truth is finally revealed, will Lady Camden be strong enough to seize her own future and happiness, or will her heart be too shattered to ever love a spy?

My Review

As always Laura will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat as you are thrown into yet another thrilling spy adventure! This one continues not long after the ending of the last one and brings everyone together again. Its not only the journey of catching the spies but of learning to love and trust again. I was hooked from the start because it was clear that he loved her and wanted to help her in every way. In no way did I see who was behind everything or the crazy reasons for some of it coming. The wedding scene tops all others I have loved with its own little twists. Serious book hangover with this one and hope there is more to the series soon.

Kate is stronger than she realizes and needs help to find her voice again. Her emotions and trauma of what happened rule her at times, but she is a favorite of mine. She didn’t wither away and everyone around her wanted to help her. I loved when she started acting like a spy without fulling realizing it.

Adrien wears his heart on his sleeve without knowing it. I loved how thought about things and his use of a sledgehammer made him a favorite. He could so easily transform and convince people of anything that you almost believe it yourself. When did what he did before the wedding I loved him more.

This is a must read series!

With her betrothal to a duke in tatters and scandal imminent, Diana Kingman has two choices: live in certain ignominy or flee into obscurity. Diana wants solitude. She never wished to wed in the first place. However, her father will stop at nothing to betroth her to one of the finest titles in the realm…no matter how loathsome the bearer. Escape is Diana’s only option, and she’ll pay any price to achieve freedom.

Universally blamed for the death of his wife and unborn child, Simon Hastings doesn’t dispute his guilt over an accident he cannot even remember. He hasn’t had a drink since, nor a moment’s peace. Determined to be a better man, Simon rescues a young woman in need—only to be accused of kidnapping. They must marry to save him from prison. But how can a man haunted by the love he lost and a woman afraid to get too close find happiness together?

My Review

I was looking forward to this so much since we got to know Simon in The Duke of Ice and it didn’t disappoint! I loved that it pretty much picked up from the last one and was an adventure from the start. They needed each other and both learned to open up about their pasts and secrets. I loved that her cousin started making plans and knew how things were going to turn out. I didn’t see the truth about his wife’s death coming in a thousand years because I thought that it would stay a full mystery that he would let go. That was a shocking and amazing twist to have. The wedding scene was another favorite of mine especially the ring.

Diana needs to escape, but not just because of the scandal from her engagement ending. She hid her secrets well, but they didn’t define her and only made her stronger. I loved that she didn’t hold back or shy away from anything. When she made up her mind to do something she did it.

Simon was going to make sure she was safe and had her freedom. He broke my heart everytime he thought about his wife and what happened. I loved how had no problem telling people they were rude and using being a Duke to shut them up. He was a gentleman as much as possible.

I didn’t like his mother at first, but she grew on me after Diana’s parents showed up.

Katherine did what was expected of her. She married the man her parents deemed suitable. However, she could not do all that was expected of her.

After less than a year of marriage, Katherine is coerced to a doctor’s office, where she must admit the humiliating fact that she hasn’t shared her husband’s bed. She knows what the diagnosis will be and the degrading treatments women with hysteria are subject to. But with a judgemental mother-in-law in tow and an impatient husband at home, the choice is not hers.

Despite herself, she comes to trust the unusual and unconventional man treating her. And, when her increasingly volatile husband threatens to force from her that which she’s unable to give, she feels she must acquiesce to all of her doctor’s recommendations.

Swept up in a surge of self-discovery and sexual awakening, Katherine faces a new reason to be terrified. One she could never have imagined.

Due to adult themes and language, this novel is intended for readers 18 and over.

My Review

This is not just a romance this about a woman’s journey to reclaim herself. This book shows another side of the times with the history of the standard treatments of any women’s problems. The double standard of the times is full focus too. I loved how they felt so complete with each other and knew they couldn’t be without each other. So much goes on this book that shows the darker side, but also brings them together as they overcome everything. I couldn’t put it down because I never knew what was going to happen next and never expected the twist at the end but loved it.

Katherine is an amazing woman. I loved seeing how she changed and getting to know her more over the whole story. I cheered when she found her voice and let her husband have it. She tried to protect herself by protecting others until she couldn’t anymore. She is an inspirational character and a favorite.

David is an amazing doctor that is ahead of his time. I loved how he seemed to know more than he let on and that he kept his promise to her. He would do anything to protect her and he did. I loved that he never gave up on her.

This book does handle some subjects that could be triggering to some people such as rape, domestic violence, and drugs. They are handled very well in this book.

“This place is too dangerous for a face like yours.”
“I feel as if I’ve heard those words before.”

It’s been several years since Araceli Arroyo left behind the burning ruins of her family’s hacienda in New Mexico for a new start in California. Despite the time that’s passed and all the loss she’s suffered, the painful memory of war is like fresh paint on a blank canvas. Perhaps that’s why the prints she creates always hold a touch of sadness. However, she’s determined to produce something new – a masterpiece that will inspire the folks in the growing town of Blessings. Could the new hire at her father’s sawmill help her do that… or will the secrets he carries destroy them both?

From Texas to New Mexico, problems stick to Miguel Santiago like stink on old fish. Hoping to shed his old life, he’s thankful for a friend’s invitation to start anew in a place where he can be anyone – literally. Operating under the alias of Michael St. James, his fair looks and country twang allow him to pass as any other American cowboy in search of California’s promise of golden opportunities. Could the family he’s always wanted also be part of the prospect… or will the woman of his dreams discard him like her dried jars of paint when his past is revealed?

A story of desire and deception, dismay and deliverance, hearts burn as bright as the summer sun setting on the golden California coastline in this classic western.

My Review

This one may just be my favorite in this series! It’s written in the way that you can easily picture everything in your head and hear them talking. I knew from the moment they met that it would be interesting. I loved how they fit each other and would teach each other (I’m a sucker for certain lesson scenes). Mr. Winslet worked fast and still surprised me with how he works. I actually held my breath at the mountain lion and then again with what happened next. I never saw the twists coming with his problems or his family. You just have to love her father for everything he has done and the twists with him her amazing and a surprise.

Araceli is married to her work and stubborn, but she listens when she should. I loved her right away because even though she wanted to be cold to him she couldn’t fully. The way she talked about painting was amazing. I loved that she was not one to fall to pieces at things.

Miguel has spent his life torn between two worlds and trouble just kept following him. I loved him from the start with how he thought about both sides of things. He was really looking for a new life and in the end got it with a surprise.

I loved that they also spoke Spanish at times in this story because it made them more real.

A tale of an enduring love, powerful enough to survive time and circumstance. Two souls destined to be halves of a whole, but fated to be kept apart. And yet a love such as this is not content to blindly accept the bonds of fate…

Nathaniel can hardly recall a time he hasn’t adored Madeline. For Madeline, he truly is her knight in shining armour. Alas, one stolen night is all they are granted before Madeline is given in marriage to the wealthy and titled, Earl of Marbourne, who is fast friends with the king. A whirlwind of intrigue and contrivance follows Madeline as she joins the court and catches the eye of the king, while cruel fate conspires to keep Madeline and Nathaniel apart despite their desperate love.

It lies not in our power to love or hate,
For will in us is overruled by fate.
When two are stripped, long ere the course begin,
We wish that one should love, the other win;
And one especially do we affect
Of two gold ingots, like in each respect:
The reason no man knows; let it suffice
What we behold is censured by our eyes.
Where both deliberate, the love is slight:
Who ever loved, that loved not at first sight?
~ Christopher Marlowe

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange or my honest review

A forbidden love that overcomes so many things because fate overrules everything. I rarely get to read this time period and I’m so glad I got to read this one. It’s an emotional rollercoaster throughout this story and you will cry, be angry, and excited many times. I fell in love with their story right away and couldn’t put it down. So many things kept them apart at every turn even tragedies. I never saw the twists coming especially the one at the end.

Madeline is stubborn and that helps her keep her head high with everything that happens. I loved her right away because she didn’t just nod her head and go along without a fight. She feared nothing and didn’t hesitate to work to take down the person causing so much of the pain.

Nathaniel will break your heart in many ways. He is a knight ruled by his emotions at times. I loved him more and more throughout the story because he truly tried to let go and be happy without her. He would do anything to protect her even though his heart was broken. I was so happy that he was the one to follow the king’s orders.

This book has some very accurate information and has my favorite vows in it. The cover matches a scene in the book and I love that.

Thus reads the Banns of marriage between Lord Harold Brookes and Miss Sophia Babineaux.
“If any of you know cause why these two should not be joined in Holy matrimony, ye are to declare it.”

Would anyone declare it?

Please?

THE BRIDE wants to declare it. The heat Sophia feels for another man has given her a bad case of cold feet! She’d never even been kissed, how was she to know the importance of sizzle? By the time she realizes her mistake it may be too late…

THE GROOM never wanted to marry Sophia in the first place. His interests (ahem) lie elsewhere. Unfortunately, with a duke for a father, Lord Harold has no say in the matter at all.

So it’s up to war hero and rake, Captain Devlin Brookes to set matters right. He’s just returned from war and ready to settle down, unfortunately the girl he wants is, well, ah… unavailable.

But he has a plan.

Once set in motion, one lie turns into a spiral of deceit and guilt. Was one shot at heaven worth a lifetime of hell?

Because love endures but the heart has it’s limits.

Or does it?

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

OMG, the emotional rollercoaster and feels from this book! It wins the award for the unique and different first meeting that will suck you and have you wondering what will happen next. I wanted to hate Lord Harald and his family, but just couldn’t. They really had the best intentions especially the Duchess. There are many twists that will make you cry, cheer and be shocked throughout the story. I had my fingers crossed about the stepbrother and was very pleased, but shocked in the end. I held my breath so many times when it came to the plan and worried about how it would play out. The ending was perfect, but I didn’t want it to end!

Sophia just wants to be safe and happy and feels that will happen with her fiance until she meets Devlin. She was stronger than she looked and could take anything thrown at her. I loved that she found her voice and started to take control of her life more and more. She always saw the good and never judged.

Devlin never thought he would find the love the way he did. He had so many things thrown at him and he kept going. I loved that looked for answers and saw her as the sweet girl she was. I was afraid he would give up, but he never did. I loved that he clearly loved his family.

unnamed (4).jpg

“Harold’s touch never had caused these sensations. It hadn’t even come close. She hummed under her breath and at the same time reflected upon the rare intimate gestures her fiancé had bestowed upon her.

“Harold’s touch never had caused these sensations. It hadn’t even come close. She hummed under her breath and at the same time reflected upon the rare intimate gestures her fiancé had bestowed upon her.

He’d occasionally kissed her hand. Well, he’d kissed the air above her hand. He had never quite placed his lips upon her skin, or her glove, to actually kiss it, per se.

And on a few instances, he’d courteously offered his arm while they strolled through the park.

Rarely had she found herself alone with Lord Harold. Why, truth be told, aside from his formal proposal, they were never alone together!

And very soon, the privacy she shared with this heroic rake would be stripped away as well. The tip of his tongue flicked inside of her ear now. And the captain was whispering something about an introduction.

“May I call upon you some afternoon, Miss Babineaux? Take you for a ride in the park, perhaps?” His breath felt hot in her ear. “If you require a formal introduction, I’m certain I can arrange something.”

She could barely respond, however, for all of the confusion flitting about her mind.

Harold was so very different from this impertinent captain.
Good heavens! It had taken Lord Harold nearly two Seasons to ask for a dance. She’d been particularly flattered when he’d told her this.

Captain Brookes lacked such patience, it would seem. Yes, this delicious man was likely considered something of a rake. His expert touch revealed that he knew exactly how to do… all of this. No, nothing shy about him.

She probably ought to mention that she was, in fact, spoken for.

Yes, she really ought to… And she ought to thank him for his assistance…

“Although he will most likely be grateful for your aiding my rescue…” Sophia spoke into his shirtfront. Oh, how his hair felt ever so soft and springy! “…I doubt my fiancé would approve of this.”

A LITTLE ABOUT ME…
Married to the same man for over 25 years, I am a mother to three children and two Miniature Wiener dogs After owning a business and experiencing considerable success, my husband and I got caught in the financial crisis and lost everything; our business, our home, even our car.
At this point, I put my B.A. in Poly Sci to use and took work as a waitress and bartender. Unwilling to give up on a professional life, I simultaneously went back to college and obtained a degree in Energy Management.
And then the energy market dropped off.
And then my dog died.
I can only be grateful for this series of unfortunate events, for, with nothing to lose and completely demoralized, I sat down and began to write the romance novels which had until then, existed only my imagination.
I am happy to have found my place in life.
Finally.

Leaving Ireland for America, Patience “Pati” O’Connor has followed the trail of her heartbroken father west, to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. With no money and a missing father, Pati has no choice but to settle down in a small, gold mining town of Blessings, California. Maybe the rough and tumble place could use a skilled seamstress…

Pete Jones has spent a lifetime fighting. Wounded in battle during the Mexican War, Pete is left with shaking hands, nightmares, and a sour disposition—but his new job protecting gold claims in Blessings just might be what he needs to kick the anguish of his past.

When Pati’s new business is robbed, she seeks help from the ornery yet honorable Pete, who doesn’t seem too keen on sticking his nose into her business. But Pete can’t seem to say no to the vibrant, fiery, oh so beautiful lass, which may spell trouble for his plans to stay lonely and single.

As the town begins to grow around them, and as trouble starts to slither in, Pati and Pete are desperate to find a love more valuable than all the gold in the mountain.

But can Pete be a man worthy of Pati’s love, and can Pati convince Pete she is destined to be his blessed bride?

My Review

An amazing start to a new series! This is one of those where the writing lets you picture every detail like a movie in your mind. I love ones with a matchmaker especially when it’s not a person you would think of doing the matching. I loved the back and forth between them and wondering what was going to happen next and they always caught me by surprise. I did not expect the twist with her father or how the ending would happen. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Pati is a strong and stubborn woman determined to take care of herself. I loved how she slowly became more accepting of help from people and found her way. She realized that her heart was going to lead her no matter what she planned. I loved when her accent came out and when she was mad.

Pete is also a stubborn and determined man, but for different reasons. He tried so hard to stay away from people and to hide his scar, but he met his match with Pati. I loved him right away because I knew there was more to him and it slowly came out. He just needed a push.

In the final installment of USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell’s Sinful Brides series, a runaway heiress entrusts her fate to the man she betrayed.

Lady Eve Pruitt has never forgotten her childhood friend, the young pickpocket Calum, who she feared had been condemned to the gallows. Now, years later, Eve is the one in danger. Her brother, made desperate by gambling debts, threatens to steal her inheritance, and Eve has no choice but to run.

Under an assumed name, she takes a job as a bookkeeper at the notorious Hell and Sin Club. Nothing in this bawdy den shocks her more than discovering that her employer is none other than Calum. Keeping her identity a secret is one thing—but hiding her feelings for him is another.

As Calum becomes increasingly taken with the strangely haunting beauty, he looks forward to exposing her mysteries. But when her masquerade is revealed, it’s left to Eve to prove that her desire for him is no deception.

My Review

*I was provided a copy from the author via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

My heart was in it from the start with what happened all those years ago. Then I was holding my breath when she was running and I was hooked even more. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how she would be discovered and what would happen then. That instant feeling of knowing each other, but not realizing it at first kept the suspense going wondering when he would realize it. I held my breath when her brother showed up and did not expect at all how everything would end. I loved the journey of forgiveness of themselves and each other.

Eva was extremely strong to have made it all these years with her brother and is so close to being safe. I loved her right away because she knew what she had to do and didn’t back down when talking to her brother. She always put others first and wanted to protect everyone. She also was very understanding of why most people did what they did.

Calum always took care of his family and others and put himself last. He comes off as a person not to be messed with, but he is more understanding and kind than you realize. I loved how he was with everyone and that he asked his sister what to do. He reacts to somethings differently than you expect.

My Review

This is my favorite in this series! I could not put it down and flew through it. It’s one of those magical Christmas love stories that has everything you want. I loved how it started with his daughter and that instant connection for her and the little girl. I was not expecting what happened in the mountains but loved it so much. The journey of him opening his heart fully will touch your heart.

Rowena is an amazing girl that loves everyone and people are drawn to her. I loved her because she didn’t hide her feelings and they were clear to everyone. She never wanted to replace his first wife, she continued on feeling a space in their hearts.

Quinn clearly loved his wife with all his heart and didn’t want to ever fall in love again. I loved that he didn’t try to hide his emotions or feelings like many would. He fought with his heart and needed a sign that he could love fully again.

Lady Hannah’s father has uncovered evidence exposing a French traitor to the Crown. Willing to do anything to silence him, the traitor’s primary target has become Lady Hannah. Keeping her safe means locking her away from Society, but she refuses to stand idly by, letting others put their lives on the line to protect her. Instead, she will stop at nothing to learn to defend herself, even at the risk of losing Lord Jonathon’s protection, or his affections.
With a sinister scheme in play to collapse the English government from within, Lord Jonathon must protect Lady Hannah from the French spies intending to use her as a pawn in their game of treachery. But can he protect her from herself?

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review

This is a favorite series!!! The story counties with trying to bring down the spy in this one and it even more thrilling than the last one. I was on the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to happen or how it was going to happen. It was clear from the moment they met that they were perfect for each other. I loved seeing so many from the last one and how they all worked together. I held my breath when they were talking to his mother and when they were on the ship. There was a twist at every turn with many things. The ending was great and I can’t wait for the next one!

Hannah is not a weak girl that will just sit and wait to be saved or see what happens. I loved her right away because she did what she had to and took to it like it had been her whole life. She was determined to learn to take care of herself and not be told what to do at every turn. The cover is a perfect example of her.

Jonathon was going to finish his mission, but never thought he would lose his heart in the process. I loved that he kept messing up when talking to her and that everyone could see what he couldn’t. He handled everything that was thrown at him very well and stayed calm most of the time. I would not want to get on his bad side.
