Series: Craven House

Author: Christina McKnight

Genre: Historical Romance, Regency

Release Date: January 4, 2018

THERE’S A FINE LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE.

Despite being thrown from her home and stripped of her place in society at a young age, Madame Marce Davenport is proud of what she’s accomplished with her family and the notoriously scandalous Craven House. Except it’s all built on a lie. When an arrogant duke strode into her home years ago, offering her a way to keep the brothel open, she agreed to his game of deception. But now that her siblings have found their happiness, Marce can finally live the life she’s always wanted: one that embraces the truth. And that means severing ties with the man who has claimed too many of her days—both in reality, and fantasy.

Rowan Delconti, the Duke of Harwich, has been angry for so long: at his father, at the woman who broke apart his parents’ marriage, and at the children who won is father’s love. He’s determined his mother won’t be unhappy again—even if it means pretending to be married to Marce, so that his mother will think he’s found love in his life. But the beautiful madame fuels his fire like no other, and the charade starts to feel all too real.

When Marce and Rowan’s secrets finally come to light, their passion may not be enough to staunch the hurt of the past. Can two people who were so wrong for each other, realize they’ve been right all along?

The women in this family are not to be messed with! As soon as he walked into the house and offered her that deal I was glued because it is a shocking and different deal. This is another journey of needing to let go of the past and understand things. When they started fighting I thought it was going to be a throw down because of how built up the feelings were. Everyone needs a friend like Tobias in their life and a mother like Rowan’s. The ending was exactly what I was hoping for!

Marce will not let anyone dictate to life anymore and she had a plan. I loved her right away because she wasn’t afraid to voice her opinion and tell him the truth. But also wasn’t going to waste her breath with him at times. She does amazing work in London that was very much needed.

Rowan does everything to keep his mother happy. It was clear from the start of much he loved his mother but hated his father. You have to get to know him and understand him before you like him. Once he let go of everything he was amazing.

“In struggling with misfortune, Lies the true proof of virtue.” -Shakespeare

It is the year 1848, and a cholera outbreak has just ravaged Manchester, leaving Emma Belden an orphan, with two young siblings to care for. Left with few options, she is forced to enter the workhouse and suffer the habitual injustices commonplace to that sad institution. Her beauty and naivety a target for the unscrupulous master of the workhouse and Edward Wells, the owner of the local textile mill, Emma will be compelled to make the difficult decision between the safety of her brother and sister, and her own virtue.

Gideon, Lord de Monthaut, is instantly smitten the moment he sees Emma, despite the fact that she is on the arm of one of the most notorious blackguards in Manchester society.

Will Emma find it possible to rise above her circumstances and find love? And in the process learn the true Proof of Virtue?

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review

This is not your typical romance as it shows the dark side of the time, but the raw emotion is so worth it! I liked the amount of time it took for them to meet because I really got to know Emma beforehand.  It’s one of those stories that have your emotions on edge and changing throughout the book. I love how they first spotted each other and the scene at the opera. I held my breath when it came to the pond scene and almost yelled out loud. Throughout the whole book, I was hoping for a certain ending with Edward and it happened so I was thrilled. This is not a full feel-good story which makes it a nice change.

Emma is so strong and a fighter. I loved her from the start because she didn’t cower from anyone and wasn’t going to be bullied around. She did what she had to to keep her brother and sister safe and taken care of. No matter what she was going to her brother and sister and start a new life.

Gideon can make you smile no matter what. I loved how he had a way of lightening the mood and how he was with every person he was around. He took action as soon as he realized what was going on with Emma and didn’t care about what she had been forced to do. He would never let her feel shame.

The Earl and Countess of Banfield cordially request your attendance at the wedding for their daughters: Lady Tamsyn Hambly to Mr. Gryffyn Cardew, & Lady Morgan Hambly to Harold Mort, Viscount Blackwater, on the 24th day of December, 1811, at Castle Keyvnor, Bocka Morrow, Cornwall.

“A Duke By Any Other Name” by Claire Delacroix
Daphne Goodenham has always been determined to wed a duke—not just because she loves fine dresses and parties, but because she wants to guarantee that she and her sister are never destitute again. When she meets the Duke of Inverfyre, a notorious fop, she immediately notices intriguing inconsistencies. Is there more to the duke than meets the eye? Why would he hide the truth if he were handsome, young, rich and a duke?

Alexander, the Duke of Inverfyre, is bent on catching a notorious thief who injured his sister, no matter what the cost. But when the lovely Miss Goodenham is bent on charming him, Alexander’s disguise proves to be no defense against her curiosity—and he has no resistance to her kiss. Will Daphne inadvertently foil Alexander’s plan? Will he have to sacrifice her interest to avenge his sister? Or can Daphne ensure Alexander’s triumph and make her own Christmas wish come true?

“Lord Locryn and the Pixie’s Kiss” by Deb Marlowe
When is a kiss actually a curse? When an irate Pixie forbids you to kiss the wrong girl—ever. Unfortunately, Lord Locryn Pendarvis has no idea why girls are falling all over themselves not to kiss him. He only knows that after a certain point, the risk of humiliation outweighs desire. Until he meets Lady Gwyn Hambly again. She’s witty, charming and beautiful—and just as interested in him as he is in her. They’ll do anything to ensure their future together—even fight the supernatural forces aligned against them.

“The Determined Duchess” by Erica Monroe
After the death of her beloved guardian, Miss Felicity Fields is left alone with an uncertain future. But this blunt bluestocking has a secret: she’s determined to resurrect her guardian through the ancient art of alchemy. The last thing she needs is the return of Nicholas Harding, the Duke of Wycliffe and rightful owner of her home on the wild coast of Cornwall. He stirs an unexpected passion within her, and Felicity has had enough change in her life.

When they were children, Nicholas never understood his aunt’s brilliant but unemotional ward, or her many scientific studies. Now, he’s determined to bring Felicity to London so that she may make a match within society–except he can’t stop thinking about her. But with the line between life and death blurred by Felicity’s experiments, can he convince her that she’s no longer alone, and her proper place is by his side?

The Pixies are back! You know when the Pixies are involved that it’s going to be interesting. I loved how the curse was both was bringing them together, but also keeping them apart. They were obviously meant to be together and everyone could see it. I loved the ritual because that was very different and something I hadn’t seen before.

Gywn loves to learn and plants and everything about an area, but she has never forgotten about that one-time meeting with him. I loved her right away because she didn’t hide her plans and was open to everything. She didn’t hide anything.

Locryn didn’t understand his curse until he arrived for the wedding. I loved that he didn’t bat an eye at what his aunt said or anything that happened. He also loved plants and learning.

This one will pull at your heart and give you goosebumps at times. I loved the spark that was between them and when it exploded it was like years built up. There’s a bit of Frankenstein vibes with her wanting to bring her back and the reason pulls at your heart. They were meant to be together and experiments brought them together.

Felicity is so different from any other heroine and I love her. She will break your heart with her reason for trying to bring her back and how long she has been trying to. It wasn’t that she needed to change who she was, but learn to understand and be around people.

Nicholas wanted to do what he thought was right for. I loved that he didn’t want to control her and wanted to help her. He was what she needed to help her deal with everything.

I couldn’t put this one down! I loved the bit of mystery and the seeds and how it all flowed together. They say each other’s true self and understood everything about each other. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen with thief and how he would be caught. The letters were perfect and I want to know if his sister finds love.

Daphne looked past the outside appearances of people and saw the truth. I loved how bold she was and that wanted to take care of her sister. She didn’t let fear stop her in the end and knew what she wanted.

Alexander was not as he appeared at all and very good it until the right person came along. I loved that he accepted his sister’s wager and was so determined to catch the thief that hurt her. He was one of those people you love right away.

Could you give up what you’re most passionate about forever?

She had her whole life planned.
Katrina Needham intended to marry her beloved major and live happily-ever-after. Until he’s seen with another woman. Distraught, and needing a distraction, she agrees to assist the rugged, and dangerously handsome privateer, The Saint of the Sea, find a wife.

He loves everything about being a sea captain.
When Dominic St. Monté unexpectedly inherits a dukedom and the care of his young sisters, he reluctantly decides he must marry. Afterward, he can return to the sea-faring life he craves and leave his duchess to oversee his dukedom.

Nic enlists a family friend’s help in finding an acceptable bride and soon realizes Katrina possesses every characteristic he seeks in a duchess. However, he cannot ask for her hand. Not only is she promised to another, a man still determined to make her his, she has absolutely no interest in becoming a privateer’s wife. Can Nic and Katrina relinquish their carefully planned futures and trust love to guide them?

Caution: This humorous historical Regency romance contains a scoundrel turned respectable duke, a precocious heroine whose tendency to say whatever scandalous thing that pops into her head lands her in scrapes, a spoiled feline with an attitude, and a sweet, meddling elderly aunt.

My Review

*I received a copy of the collection from the author in exchange for my honest review

Another favorite! Many twists and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I was hooked from the start wondering how it was going to play out. I loved how they instantly were very open with each other like they had known each other for years. I felt bad for the major until he started talking and loved both families.

Katrina speaks her mind freely around everyone. She is a favorite of mine because of the way she was with everyone. I loved when she told the major off and how she was with his sisters.

Nic had his life flipped upside down with the new of inheriting the title. I loved him right away because of how he was with his aunt and that he was going to take care of his sisters.

What a way to start off this collection! I was hooked from the start with the Bibliomania Club and trying to find the manuscript in time. I didn’t know how he would react when he knew it was her but loved how he did react. I loved them together and loved how they figured out the clues. The cat was a great addition that I loved and I didn’t fully see the twist her father and Jane coming. The proposal was very different and one that I loved.

Philomena is a very different and unique in every way and I loved it. I loved the way she thought and did things because she wasn’t like other girls. She went into this with one goal and came out with it and another she never imagined.

Seton saw the real her and loved her uniqueness. I loved how he understood how she thought and her mind worked and at times better than she did. He had his mind made up and no question about it.

Hooked from the start and didn’t want it to end! This one is different from beginning to end from the way they met I knew it would be a good one. I loved how different they were from each other, but they balanced each other out. I did not see the twist coming at the temples and that scene caused me to sit straight up. I was on the edge of my seat wanting them to find and hoping the made it back in time for her brother. I kept wanting more when I got to the end.

Rosalyn lives up to her name The Cat and is a spitfire. I loved her right away because she was a quick thinker and didn’t hold back. She was determined to help him after hearing everything. She is my favorite heroine especially after the scene on the road.

Dominick is every bit a Duke and knows how to use that title. I loved him right away when he realized her family wasn’t what he expected and had the doctor looked into. He met his match in her and knew he was lost.

Another one that I couldn’t put down! This one will keep you on the edge of your seat with finding the manuscripts and wondering what will happen between the two of them. I loved the twist with Mrs. Taylor and could not figure out what she was up to until it was revealed. I loved that they were friends first. The ending was amazing and perfect for it.

Magdalene loved her husband and thought she would never love again. She really was shy and didn’t like crowds, but she fought it to help him find the manuscripts. I loved how it was a bit of a journey for her to opening up again.

Daunt knows who his heart has wanted for years, but he couldn’t have her. I loved him right away because he did not act like he had a title and kept trying to tell her how he felt. His felling showed in every way.

I am so glad that there was an epilogue to wrap up everything and showed the professor more.

Lady Lorraine wants none of her father’s high-handed ways, and she’ll do everything in her power to avoid her distressingly attractive bodyguard―until she lands herself in real trouble. Lorraine begins to see Ewan’s protectiveness in a new light, and she can only hope that her stoic guardian will do for her what he’s always done―fight for what he wants.

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

An amazing start to a new series! I was hooked from the moment Ewan threw the man out and then once they met I knew it was going to exciting and different with them. I loved how they were together from the start with trying to outsmart each other. I did not expect the trouble she found herself in or how desperate the person was to do that. I actually held my breath when her father told him no because I had no clue what was going to happen. The ending was perfect, especially with his friends. I also loved the story with her parents wondering what happened to them before.

Lorraine is extremely independent and when she sets her mind to something look out. Her way of thinking and doing what she wanted was going to cause some big trouble and scandal. I loved that she was free speaking and determined in helping him. I loved that she wasn’t so stubborn as to completely ignore what she was being told.

Ewan is one of those hero’s that has your heart right away. His past will break your heart and his sense of honor will make you love him. I loved that he took his job so seriously and how he could figure out what she was up to at every turn. When he went back to get her dog it said everything about their love.

I can’t wait for the next book!

A LADY OF LIGHT

Refined, kind, and intelligent, Lady Iris Jordan finds herself the unlikely target of a diabolical kidnapping. Her captors are the notoriously evil Lords of Chaos. When one of the masked-and nude!-Lords spirits her away to his carriage, she shoots him . . . only to find she may have been a trifle hasty.

A DUKE IN DEEPEST DARKNESS

Cynical, scarred, and brooding, Raphael de Chartres, the Duke of Dyemore, has made it his personal mission to infiltrate the Lords of Chaos and destroy them. Rescuing Lady Jordan was never in his plans. But now with the Lords out to kill them both, he has but one choice: marry the lady in order to keep her safe.

CAUGHT IN A WEB OF DANGER . . . AND DESIRE

Much to Raphael’s irritation, Iris insists on being the sort of duchess who involves herself in his life-and bed. Soon he’s drawn both to her quick wit and her fiery passion. But when Iris discovers that Raphael’s past may be even more dangerous than the present, she falters. Is their love strong enough to withstand not only the Lords of Chaos but also Raphael’s own demons?

My Review

*I received a copy from the author via NetGalley

The shocking opening will make sure you don’t put it down. It’s shocking and thrilling at the same time throughout the book. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time afraid of what would happen next and hoping she could help him get rid of his demons. I loved how the passion between them kept building until it exploded. The mystery of the leader of the Lords of Chaos kept me guessing if who I thought it was was right or not. The ending was another shocker and I loved it.

Iris is not as innocent as she seems and wants passion. I loved her right away because she wasn’t going to wilt away and was going to fight if she had to. She was very caring and understanding even willing to give up what she wanted most for him. Her compassion and strength was amazing.

Raphael is on a suicide mission to kill his demons. His personal demons are some of the most horrible and fuel him to take down the Lord of Chaos. I loved him because he would protect her to no end. He needed her more than he knew to fight his demons and find happiness and passion in his life.

There are many things that will shock you in the book so be prepared.

My Review

This is going on my All Time Favorites list! You will go through so many emotions while reading this one from happy to anger to sadness and back to happy. I loved the twist with how he found out the truth and the connection they had right away. I really wanted something to happen to her parents because they are beyond horrible. They shocked me every time they were around. The ending was amazing and perfect! I was so excited to see how things turned out for them.

Dora is broken body and soul. I felt so connected to her because she was different. I hated seeing her torn down and she needed someone to pull from the dark. I almost screamed when she stood up to her parents and then was afraid of what would happen next.

Allon was pulled from his darkness and now he will return the favor. I loved him right away because he’s smart, a bit sneaky, and what dreams are made of. I was not expecting what he said to her parents at all. When he went in the house I cheered.

Isabeau hoped becoming a mail-order bride was the answer to her problems. She’d change her name, start a new life, and lose herself in a small town. When she discovers that the man who disappeared with her heart is the man she agreed to marry, Isabeau settles in for the fight of her life.

When the one woman he’d left France to forget arrives in town, claiming she’s his new bride, Jean-Luc doesn’t know what to feel. But when pain gives way to the truth, he must risk keeping a dark secret, one that would steal every chance at happiness. Isabeau once made him believe in happily ever after, now he must learn how to keep his new bride at a distance, lest he lose everything.

Can Jean-Luc be a true husband to the woman he’s been deceiving? Can Isabeau convince Jean-Luc she’s his one true love? Will these two rediscover what they had once upon a summertime?

My Review

The perfect amount of sweetness. Many sweet westerns loose their ruggedness or the sense of being a western, but this one doesn’t and I loved that! There is a lot of emotions in this one too that will pull at your heart and you will connect with them throughout the story. I loved that they weren’t your typical western couple and that they were brought back together. There was a twist with her family that I didn’t see coming. I didn’t want it to end but loved the ending because everything came out.

Isabeau was ruined by a scandal but wasn’t going to fall into a black hole and disappear. I loved that she actually could take care of herself with the upbringing she had and that she wouldn’t back down. She spoke her mind at all times and I loved that about her.

Jean-Luc was heartbroken without realizing it. My heart ached for him in the garden and how he changed after that. He was a hardened man after that and I loved how he slowly softened again. He will pull at your heart like crazy.

Don’t mess with a group of women that have a plan!

Dublin, Ireland, 1880. Tired of treating rich hypochondriacs, Dr Will Fitzgerald left his father’s medical practice and his home on Merrion Square to live and practice medicine in the Liberties. His parents were appalled and his fiancée broke off their engagement. But when Will spends a night in a brothel on the eve of his best friend’s wedding, little does he know that the scarred and disgraced young woman he meets there will alter the course of his life.

Isobel Stevens was schooled to be a lady, but a seduction put an end to all her father’s hopes for her. Disowned, she left Co Galway for Dublin and fell into prostitution. On the advice of a handsome young doctor, she leaves the brothel and enters domestic service. But can Isobel escape her past and adapt to life and the chance of love on Merrion Square? Or will she always be seen as a scarlet woman?

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

This is a very different book in many ways and I loved it! There are many things covered in the book that you normally don’t see or if they are mentioned they don’t play a major part in the story. I never knew what was going happen next because something was always getting in the way for them, but also bringing them closer together. Many shocking scandals, secrets, and happy endings throughout the book that keep you hooked. Their love story intertwines perfectly with everything else. Their love could withstand anything. The ending was perfect and unexpected.

Isobel is a very strong woman to have held her head high and came through everything that happened to her. I admire her doing what she had to in every situation no matter how shocking it was and that she kept her head high. She didn’t let her father’s words fully pull her down, but did need the right person to show her that she was worthy.

WIll did not look down on anyone and wanted to help those less fortunate no matter what. I loved the way he tended to always be thinking like a doctor and how he could talk to people so easily no matter what. He needed Isobel and much as she needed him at the time they met.

This book does touch on many subjects that might shock some readers such as abortion, some characters sexuality, strong language, and things that could be considered erotic.
