He’s more rake than gentleman and she’s more minx than spinster.
Miss Olivia Redfield’s prospects for marriage are nonexistent, bleak at best. Removed from society for an ill-fated physical defect, she’s resigned herself to caring for others in a somewhat dreary existence. She’s determined to be the Perfect Spinster, that is, until she finds herself falling for the charming but unattainable, Lord Kingsley.

Gabriel Fellowes, Earl of Kingsley is doing a favor for a friend by overseeing the dangerous–– but promising––mine on the border of Viscount Hallowell’s property. With extra time on his hands, he finds himself irresistibly provoked by the viscount’s nymph–like daughter and delights in needling her as well. In no position to promise more than a dalliance, Gabriel takes the unprecedented step of becoming her friend.

Their flirtatious attachment threatens to erupt in passion, but duty and honor forbid anything more. Will love be defeated when tragedy strikes, or can these two overcome Society’s dictates and conquer a century old curse?

A very unique and awkward meeting starts off this whirlwind romance that won’t go off without a couple of surprising hiccups. They tried to tell themselves that this was just friendship, but the connection between them is so powerful that nothing will keep them from each other. I was on pins and needles waiting for them to finally give in to the attraction fully because it leaps off the pages. When tragedy strikes it brings them together, but there is still one obstacle that stands in their way back in London.

I loved that this story covers a year because you really get a sense of how strong their love is. The added storyline with his sister was one I didn’t expect and what followed showed everyone what was between them. The ending was perfect for these two and the scene in the bed made me love him even more.

Olivia doesn’t let her eye define her or society rules control her. I loved her right away because of how much she cared about others. She had a way of say “my lord” that made it sound like the biggest insult when she was mad. I loved when she told her parents off and how she came to realize the curse wasn’t real.

Gabriel would marry her in a heartbeat if he hadn’t made a promise to his father about who he would marry. He’ll make you fall in love with him once you realize why he use to tease her and how he always manages to say the wrong thing around her. It took him long enough to realize he wasn’t to blame for the tragedy and he could have who he wanted. It’s also so cute when he says her name differently.

These two deserved an amazing story and they got it!

Miss Fortune’s First Kiss by Annabelle Anders

My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Spice Level: 💋💋💋

“Your First Kiss holds the answer to all that you desire.” The fortune drew only laughter from Matilda Fortune when Madame Zeta, a visiting gypsy uttered the ridiculous words.. At eight and twenty, Tildy’s first kiss had long come and gone. As had the gentleman who bestowed it…

The Earl of Willoughby, widowed and lost, has given up on love. Since the death of his wife, he’s lived in a fog. In route to London for the season, his mischievous daughters insist upon stopping at a small village to have their fortunes told at a traveling fair. If only he hadn’t allowed the gypsy to read his palm. Is it possible, his future is hidden in the past?

I love a story of past love and fate bringing them back together again. Neither one knew how those palm readings were going to change their lives or how much that change was needed. Fate had been at play for years getting them ready for when the time was right and they needed each other the most.

His daughters were the most precious things and needed to be protected from evil in their own home. I was holding my breath when that evil did the last attempt at taking control. I didn’t want this story to end.

Tilde is no ordinary governess and she sees people for who they really are. I loved her from the start because she wasn’t like most ladies and didn’t hold back her thoughts with anyone.

Jasper was lost after his wife’s death, but he knew he needed a special governess for his daughters. She opened his eyes to what was going on in his house and opened his heart again.

She can’t make a baby without a husband! Or can she?

After witnessing the miracle of birth, self-determined spinster Miss Penelope Crone is having second thoughts about swearing off marriage. She wants – no, she needs – to experience the blessed event herself. Dear God, she’s practically thirty! Time is running out!

Hugh Chesterton, Viscount Danbury, is relatively intelligent, good looking, unmarried, and most importantly, close at hand. With a little décolletage, a sway of the hips, and a few drinks of brandy, Penelope is certain she can extract a respectable offer.

If only she’d accounted for the power of passion.

Because unchecked lust takes over, leaving Penelope in a most precarious predicament. And Lord Danbury –– the goose-brained jackanapes –– is proving far less attainable than she’d imagined.

Is Penelope to be cast out of society or will Lord Danbury take a leap of faith and save her from ruin? He’d better act fast if he’s going to make her his lady. HIs Lady At Last…

Annabelle always surprises me by taking a rarely seen topic in HR and turning it into an amazing story! I had an idea of what was going to happen, but as soon as Penelope said “we should celebrate” I was shocked at how wrong I was. But it was a good shock. Then the surprises just kept coming with them and every time I thought he was going to find out I wanted to scream because they were interrupted. My heart ached when he finally found out and then sunk with his reaction.

These two clearly are meant to be together and both are stubborn and full of passion. I was jumping up and down when he finally remembered and then my heart sunk when he arrived home to what he did. Everything in that scene had my heart racing, holding my breath, and tears in my eyes all for good and bad reasons. Major book hangover after the amazing ending.

Penelope is a determined woman that always gets what she wants when she sets her mind to it. I loved how she could walk in and fix things like it was nothing. She just couldn’t fix this as easily and her emotions leap off the pages at every turn. If only she could get him to listen and give details

Hugh knew something changed when he saw that baby. his emotions when came to her were so clear. I wanted to shake him to make him remember everything. When he ordered the doctor out I could feel the pain in his voice. What he did next shocked me and melted my heart to his stubbornness and the way he acted.

There is a picnic scene that has something I have never seen in HR, but it was very well done and takes it to a 3 1/2 kisses on the spice level. But it was very well done.

The birth scene is a bit traumatic so it may be triggering to some, but it is very well done.

A Duke, A Debutante, and An Arranged Marriage…

She secretly cut in the shadows and covered her scars with satin and lace.

Louella Rose is perfect. Beautiful. Refined. The answer to all her family’s woes. No one knows that beneath her flawless complexion, behind her mesmerizing eyes, she hides her pain in shame.

Lord Stanton promised to marry the woman of his father’s choice by the age of thirty and that time has finally come. To his surprise and delight, the chosen lady is the perfect debutante, for him anyhow, and he couldn’t be happier… until he discovers the scars that make no sense – scars that shatter the illusion of perfection.

Lies, greed and blood lay waste to a most promising marriage. Can their love overcome the ravages of guilt and carry them through life’s imperfections?

Historical romance unlike anything else.

A story that proves that we are all perfectly imperfect and we all have battle scars. This story shows how the strain of being perfect can lead to real scars. Cameron and Louella were meant to be together and their story is full of ups and downs. When they were together it was like they were new people not afraid to be themselves. I wanted to scream every time her mother spoke to her because she just made things worse. You will go through a rollercoaster of emotions reading this. There are many heartwarming moments especially the one with little Luke.

Louella has been told she is perfect and the strain is too much for anyone. She broke my heart every time she went to her sewing box and when she was trying to explain it. But this story shows her journey and the struggle to stop hurting herself. I wanted to cheer the moment it changed for her.

Cameron has always wanted to be himself and understands that people have flaws. He doesn’t pretend to understand why, but tries to and to help her when she needs it. My heart broke for him with the news about the mine. He always had her best interest from the start. I loved that he also had an imperfection from the start.

The ending will warm your heart with it being perfectly imperfect as things should be. I can’t wait for Oliva’s story.

This book does include a trigger warning which I applaud. Cutting is not something I have experience with, but I believe Annabelle did an amazing job. She approached it from all angles and did her research.

If you are self-harming or know someone that is To Write Love On Her Arms is a wonderful organization to find resources for help and care.

Miss Abigail Wright, disillusioned spinster, hides her secret pain behind encouraging smiles and optimistic laughter. Self-pity, she believes, is for the truly wretched. So when her mother insists she attend a house party—uninvited—she determines to simply make the best of it…until an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction.

Alex Cross, the “Duke of Ice,” has more than earned the nickname given him by the ton. He’s given up on happiness but will not reject sensual pleasure. After all, a man has needs.

The week ought to have been pleasantly uneventful for both of them, with nature walks, parlor games, and afternoon teas on the terrace…but for some inferior stitchery on poor Abigail’s bodice.

And now the duke is faced with a choice. Should he make this mouse a respectable offer and then abandon her to his country estate? She’s rather pathetic and harmless, really. Oughtn’t to upset his life whatsoever.

His heart, however, is another matter…

This is a heartwarming and gut-wrenching story that will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions. They both have stories that will make you cry, but those stories bring them together and they understand each other more than they know it. If you’ve read A Lady’s Prerogative then you got a glimpse of their first meeting, but it’s not as innocent as everyone thinks. They are very different from each other but drawn to each other and it shows in that first meeting.

Abigail is a brave and strong woman that I admired more and more as her story unfolded. She had been through so much, but you wouldn’t know by how she carried herself and acted. I loved that she didn’t hide away and when angry she didn’t run. She stayed when others would have ran away. So many women can relate to her in different ways.

Alex will break your heart with how much his thoughts of the past eat at him. He needed her and didn’t really know why at first. I loved him and how wanted the truth and understood what she needed. He never blinked an eye at anything she told him. He could also deliver a well-deserved pounding when needed.

Their wedding will go down in history as one of the best ones for very unique reasons. When it came to her parents I wanted to strangle them so much from the blaming her to the horrible jokes they made.

I want to praise Annabelle for writing a curvy heroine with a real body stretch marks and all. We need more like this.

I also want to mention that this book does deal with a past rape that happened before the book. There are no graphic details, but it is a huge part of the story. It is handled very well by Annabelle, but still may be triggering to some.

Regency Romance between an angelic vicar and a devilish debutante: A must read if you love sweet and sizzle with an abundance of heart.

THE DEVILISH DEBUTANTE
Miss Rhododendron Mossant has given up on men, love, and worst of all, herself. Once a flirtatious beauty, the nightmares of her past have frozen her in fear. Ruined and ready to call it quits, all she can hope for is divine intervention.

THE ANGELIC VICAR
Justin White, Vicar turned Earl, has the looks of an angel but the heart of a rake. He isn’t prepared to marry and yet honor won’t allow anything less. Which poses something of a problem… because, by God, when it comes to this vixen, a war is waging between his body and his soul.

SCANDAL’S SWEET SIZZLE
She’s hopeless and he’s hopelessly devoted. Together they must conquer the ton, her disgrace, and his empty pockets. With a little deviousness, and a miracle or two, is it possible this devilish match was really made in heaven?

My Review

This book takes place at the same time as Hell’s Belle so I was excited to see what happened between these two. I’ve never seen a story with a Vicar turned Earl so that was definitely something new that I loved. These two clearly have something between them from the start, but they have battles to win first. I loved how much confusion there was between them about everything. There was a couple of times that I was afraid of what a certain person would do. Her father was a total shock and I wanted to wack him. A real surprise was her mother and I loved her for it. There are some fun twists with the ladies and a well-deserved end for one person. The ending left me laughing and happy to see them all happy.

Rhoda is almost a shell of herself, but there is still a fire in her. I loved how she opened up to him and was ready to battle the ton. She needed someone that would understand her and help her get over the past and see she is safe.

Justin had loved her longer than anyone knew and he would do anything for her. He came to her resue in more ways than one. I loved how he always stayed positive and didn’t give up.

There are a few scenes that could potentially be triggering to some. There are attempted sexual assaults, but they are brief and not graphic.

There comes a time in a lady’s life when she needs to take matters into her own hands…
A Scheming Minx
Emily Goodnight, a curiously smart bluestocking – who cannot see a thing without her blasted spectacles – is raising the art of meddling to new heights. Why leave her future in the hands of fate when she’s perfectly capable of managing it herself?
An Apathetic Rake
The Earl of Blakely, London’s most unattainable bachelor, finds Miss Goodnight’s schemes nearly as intriguing as the curves hidden beneath her frumpy gowns. Secure in his independence, he’s focussed on one thing only: evading this father’s manipulating ways. In doing so, ironically, he fails to evade the mischief of Emily’s managing ploys.
Hell’s Bell Indeed
What with all the cheating at parlor games, trysts in dark closets, and nighttime flights to Gretna Green, complications arise. Because fate has limits. And when it comes to love and the secrets of the past, there’s only so much twisting one English Miss can get away with…

Hell’s Bell is the third book in the Devil’s Debutantes Series but can also be read as a standalone novel.

My Review

You will need a fan and a cold drink with these two! The heat and tension between them leaps off the pages from the start and continues to build and explode multiple times. Fate brought them together by throwing a wrench into her plans. But they were made for each other. I never knew what they were going to get up to between experiments and the past coming up. They learned about themselves and each other as they fell deeper in love. I did not see the truth of his father’s plans coming or anything that followed. His father was a surprise with how he reacted to things. I was even holding my breath at one time near the end. The meaning behind their rings pulls at my heart. I can’t wait for the next book!

Emily is not afraid of anything and curiosity gets the best her at all most every turn. I loved her from the moment she was in the library and saw him. She noticed things that many wouldn’t and wanted to help everyone. Her meddling was always done with the best of intentions to the point she forgot about her self when it came to helping other.

Marcus has let hate and the unknown rule him for too long. He could make his own way in the world, but he needed to know the truth and listen to his heart. I have the images of him leaning against something and winking burned into my mind. All I can think of is a tall drink of water to describe him. He couldn’t hide his feelings and would protect her forever.

The chapter names shouldn’t be missed either.

IT’S NOT FAIR!
Titled rakes can practically get away with murder, but one tiny little misstep and a debutante is sent away to the country. Which is where Lady Natalie Spencer is stuck after jilting her betrothed.
Frustrated with her banishment, she’s finished being a good girl and ready to be a little naughty.
Luckily she has brothers, one of whom has brought home his delightfully gorgeous friend.
After recently inheriting an earldom, Garrett Castleton is determined to turn over a new leaf and shed the roguish lifestyle he adopted years ago.
His friend’s sister, no matter how enticing, is out-of-bounds. He has a run-down estate to manage and tenants to save from destitution.
Can love find a compromise between the two, or will their stubbornness get them into even more trouble?

My Review

A heart-melting Earl with a heartbreaking story meets his match with a lady rake that is just what he needs! I was so happy to see Natalie get her own story and she does not disappoint. They are like to halves to a whole heart from the start even though you wouldn’t think so by the way they act at first. I loved getting to know both of them and uncovering their own stories as they did with each other.  They came from two very different upbringings, but both had scandals that put them at risk. I was holding my breath wishing for a certain twist and wanted to jump up down when it appeared. I did not see the twist of what happened with the trunk coming and was worried for a bit. I laughed when it came to her mother and godmother coming up with a plan. The ending was perfect and I hope to see her brothers again.

Natalie did what she had to so that two people that truly loved each other could be happy. She just didn’t expect the rules and lectures that followed. I loved her right away and especially as soon as she decided to take control and be free. She never shied away from anything and really understood him more than anyone.

Garrett is free from his father, but not the scandal that surrounded him. He broke my heart with his fears and reasons for not wanting to marry. But he also was heart-melting with how he listened to her and asked the questions that no one else did. When he discovered the truth it was like a weight off of his shoulders and he had the support he needed.

A betrothal, a scandal, and a kidnapping stand between them now. Can honor emerge from the ashes of their love?

My Review

I don’t think I’ve ever read one that intertwines the past and present like this and I loved it!! You really get to know both of them so much and it makes them seem so real. It was an adventure from the start with them and finding out who was behind the robbery. They didn’t realize it, but everything was working to bring them together again. I was holding my breath wondering how everyone would react and then the kidnapping had me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to do a happy dance when everyone came together to and supported love. I loved Hugh and can’t wait for Natalie’s story. I also loved that it handled some real history.

Lilly did what her father wanted all those years ago and now she was free from it all. She broke my heart when she talked about doing what her father had wanted. But her spirit wasn’t broken and I loved how she wouldn’t give up and her love of animals. She didn’t hold onto the past like some would.

Michael had changed in those years for many reasons, but duty doesn’t always win. I loved how even though he was a duke he saw the need for change to help others. When he saw the paper I knew a fight was coming. His story about what his father said made me tear up.

This book does contain a scene between Lilly and her husband that could be triggering to some due to the nature of it. Annabelle did a great job of handling it and I feel it was needed to understand things.
