An earl in the streets, a rogue in the sheets . . .

Leopold Graham, Lord Hampton, was never a man to let propriety stand in the way of his pursuit of pleasure. Hedonism is his only desire in life—until his father’s death saddles him with debts that threaten to bankrupt the entire family. Now the only thing that stands between him and utter ruin is marriage to a proper, and preferably wealthy, young lady.

Ivy Leighton is no sweet English rose. Perhaps it’s her gypsy roots, but she would rather make a spectacle of her independent spirit than sit quietly on the sidelines. If that means that the only place she’ll ever have in society is firmly on the shelf, then so be it. But when Ivy runs into the handsome, rakish Leo who’s looking for a respectable, well-bred wife, she can’t stop thinking about the troubles they can get into. Now she just has to convince him that a life with her is really what he needs.

My Review

*I received a copy from the author via NetGalley

If you’re looking a new time period to read then this one is perfect! It’s set in the Edwardian era which is new to me in historical romance and I loved it. Times are changing and the old ways are battling the new ways in this one so you get a feel for how it affected everyone. I loved his mother because she was so sneaky with her plans for them and got her own surprise in the end. They had an instant connection and she was exactly what he needed in his life.

Ivy had no plans to marry so she could keep her independence and fight for her rights. I loved her right away because of how she thought about things and didn’t stay quiet. Her backstory was different and I loved it.

Leo had changed since his father’s scandalous death and not for the better. I loved how he was with his mother and that he was doing what he thought best. When he realized who she was he changed to his true self.

I wish this was longer because I flew through it.

When Niall Lindsey, the Earl of Margrave, is forced to flee after killing a man in a duel, he expects his secret love, Brilliana Trevor, to go with him, or at the very least wait for him. To his shock, she does neither and sends him off with no promise for the future. Seven years and one pardon later, Niall returns to England disillusioned and cynical. And being blackmailed by the government into working with his former love to help catch a counterfeiter connected to her father doesn’t improve his mood any. But as his role as Brilliana’s fake fiancé brings his long-buried feelings to the surface once again, he wonders who is more dangerous—the counterfeiter or the woman rapidly stealing his heart.

Forced to marry another man after Niall was exiled, the now widowed Brilliana wants nothing to do with the reckless rogue who she believes abandoned her to a dreary, loveless life. So having to rely on him to save her father is the last thing she wants, much less trusts him with….But as their scheme strips away the lies and secrets of their shared past, can she let go of the old hurt and put her pride aside? Or will the pleasures of their renewed passion finally enable them both to rediscover love?

My Review

* I was provided a copy from the author via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

Secrets and lies made his leaving worse for both of them. All these years they both hated each other, but once together there’s no mistaking there is still something there. Normally I don’t like books with misunderstandings and grudges, but I loved this one because there were many reasons for them. I loved the back and forth arguments between them because they had changed over the years and were learning about each other again. I had my suspicions over who was behind the counterfeiting but wasn’t sure until it was revealed. They worked together perfectly and some family members were a great help too.

Brilliana has a broken heart that left her wanting and hating. I loved her from the start because she wanted to make sure she didn’t have to rely on a man again. She was very strong because of everything that happened in those years that he was gone and for her son. She was also very smart and able to figure things out.

Niall wasn’t the same innocent boy from before. His reason for the dual and keeping it a secret was to protect people, but he realized that it also hurt others. I loved him from the start because he didn’t want to see others hurt, but knew it came with the job. He slowly let go of the hate as he found out things.

Their marriage is a fiction. Their enemies are all too real.

Ella survived an abusive and philandering husband, in-laws who hate her, and public scorn. But she’s not sure she will survive love. It is too late to guard her heart from the man forced to pretend he has married such a disreputable widow, but at least she will not burden him with feelings he can never return.

Alex understands his supposed wife never wishes to remarry. And if she had chosen to wed, it would not have been to him. He should have wooed her when he was whole, when he could have had her love, not her pity. But it is too late now. She looks at him and sees a broken man. Perhaps she will learn to bear him.

In their masquerade of a marriage, Ella and Alex soon discover they are more well-matched than they expected. But then the couple’s blossoming trust is ripped apart by a malicious enemy. Two lost souls must together face the demons of their past to save their lives and give their love a future.

My Review

*I received a via the author in exchange for my honest review.

This one had me glued to it from the start! There is a mystery from the start with why her in-laws hate her so much and why they are doing what they are doing to her. It was clear from the start that they were a perfect match, but so many things were keeping them apart. I kept hoping that they wouldn’t be ripped apart. I figured out parts, but still got hit with others and loved it. There are so many details that I loved and once it ended I didn’t want it to be over. This is one that you take your time reading for good reasons.

Ella wasn’t going to go down without a fight. I loved her spirit from the start because with everything she had been through she kept her head up. She was a fighter and slowly realized that she a lady even without a title and money. You just love her instantly.

Alex has always cared about and loved Ella. I loved him from the start because he didn’t let his injury get in his way and knew he had to help her. He was a bit surprising at times, but those surprises make you love him more from how he talks about horses and why he won’t breed for the army to the story he told about the lessons his brothers taught him.

I highly recommend this book.

Excerpt

Half an hour later, there was a knock on the door.

Ella, expecting a maid or Susan, called out, “Enter.”

Alex opened the door just enough to slide inside and closed it again behind him.

Before you say, I know I shouldn’t be here, but I had to tell you first, before anyone else.”

Ella frowned. He looked… stunned. As if someone had hit him on the side of the head with a large plank and he had registered the blow but not yet the pain. Swiftly, she crossed the room and took his hands.

What is it? What has happened? What can I do?”

I don’t think there is anything to be done. The King… They said a barony, but I never expected this.” He shook his head. “I am not making sense. I have had a shock.”

Sit down.” She tugged his hand and he followed her unresisting to the seat by the fire.

There. Can I get you some water? Where does it hurt?”

The King has made me a viscount, Ella. Aldridge said a baron, which was ridiculous enough. But apparently, he had a spare viscountcy, so there you are. Viscount Renshaw.” He bowed slightly in the chair, more of a nod of the head. “At your service.”

But…” She frowned, trying to understand. “That is not a bad thing, Alex, surely? My lord, I mean.”

See? That is exactly what I was afraid of.” He looked disgusted, but at least less pole axed than when he arrived. “I have spent weeks trying to get you to regard me as an ordinary man, and what does the King do? If you call me ‘my lord’, Ella, I swear I will not be accountable for my actions.”

You are though. Lord Renshaw.”

Me and the heirs male of my body,” he agreed, gloomily, then brightened a little. “The estate is not a bad size and is in the Lincolnshire Wolds, which is good horse country. It will be in terrible condition, I imagine, for the King to give it away, but it might be a good base for our horse breeding, do you not think? We could go and see it after Christmastide.”

Ella’s mind was still on the heirs male. He would have to marry. That is what peers did. She should not mind. After all, except for one kiss that burned in her memory, there was nothing between them. Only friendship. But when she had agreed to partner him in the venture, she had owned a colt, and she had not thought of him having a wife. Surely he understood it could no longer be ‘our’ venture?

He misunderstood her silence. “No. I suppose you will not come. I will go and inspect it, and report, Ella.” He pulled himself to his feet. “I had better go before someone catches me in your room. Please do not hate me for being a peer. I could not help it, and I cannot bear to lose you… Your friendship, I mean.”

Her smile was a thing of the lips, not the heart, but she did the best she could. “We will always be friends, Alex.”

Will the truce be enough to show them what everyone else has always known? Or will they lose each other forever?

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I have been excited for this book for a long time and it was so worth the wait!! I was hooked from page one and couldn’t wait to see how it played out between them. Just when I thought I knew what would happen next something unexpected would happen. I Loved the bickering between them and how it seemed like they would kill each other, but everyone else saw what was really there. There are a couple of twists that I was expecting at all and there are many scenes that made me laugh. Even the ending was a twist for me, but it quickly made sense.

Alexandra has wanted to work the ranch since she was a little girl and she is determined to prove everyone wrong. She may be grown, but a part of her still acted like that little girl the drove her father crazy. I loved how stubborn she was and that she could throw a punch even though that stubbornness caused a lot of trouble.

Jesse is just as stubborn, but he doesn’t let what he wants get in the way most of the time. I loved him especially when he decided to do what her father and thought about doing with her. He always seemed to know when something wasn’t right and was at times a bit hotheaded and getting into trouble himself.

This is going on my all-time favorites list and I highly recommend it and the rest of the series.

Originally written under the pseudonym Deborah Martin, this unforgettable tale of mystery, treasure, and passion is back in print at last and newly revised for today’s audience!

Welsh widow Catrin Price is haunted by a family death curse. Any man whom she marries without first drinking from an ancient Druid chalice sold by her ancestor long ago is unquestionably doomed. But when she hunts it down to purchase it, the chalice’s former owner ends up dead. Who will believe her innocent with the man’s treasure in her hands? Now she lives in fear of discovery, afraid to trust, afraid to give away her heart…

Even Newcome, a scholar struggling to overcome a difficult past, travels to Wales to find the mysterious woman last seen with his murdered friend. So when the lady proves to be a beautiful yet shy creature who shares his love of Welsh mythology, he’s torn between believing her guilty and trusting the passion blazing between them. But as unscrupulous men seek the chalice for their own devious purposes, will Catrin and Evan let their wall of mistrust stand between them? Or will they defeat their enemies together and embrace the love intended for them since time immemorial?

My Review

*I received a copy from the author via NetGalley

This story will make you want to read up on Wales and Welsh mythology. The opening was perfect and hooked me from the start with the tale of the chalice. I loved the mystery and had absolutely no clue who the murderer was or why and was taken by surprise when it was revealed. Catrin and Evan are perfect for each other and definitely have instant chemistry. I loved their first meeting and how they are kind of opposites in many things. The ending was AMAZING! So much happened that made non-believers into believers.

Catrin is so shy but so strong too. She has had so much happen to her that it’s easy to understand why she believes in the curse and doesn’t trust strangers. I loved her personality and her name. When she needs to take action and protect someone she loves she is powerful. I loved her with the gun.

Evan is not shy at all and is very smart. His past is heartbreaking and has convinced him to never marry, but he is not his past. I loved how he didn’t hide what he felt and the way he went about getting her to listen. He did have a bit of an inner battle and didn’t see what others saw in him which affected him in many ways.

I wanted to dislike Catrin’s father in law, but he proved himself to be a good man in the end. I was so excited to see Juliana and Rhys and how they played into the story.

COURTSHIP WAS NEVER SO SCANDALOUS

The grandson of an unconventional marquis and son of a notorious woman, Elijah Watson, Marquis of Ridgefeld, has spent most of his life outside of London. His atypical upbringing has left him longing for roots and a traditional family life, and he’s determined to live his life above reproach. When he meets Miss Samantha Pengarden, he believes he’s found the woman he wants to marry—except she has other far more sensual ideas for him.

Known throughout the ton as the illegitimate rebellious daughter of London’s disreputable Craven House Madame, Samantha has never had to face the world without her shy twin by her side—until now. Her sister’s marriage and the return of her blackguard father leaves her alone and adrift. When Elijah agrees to escort her to the town’s most infamous establishments, she thinks she’s finally found a man with a taste for scandal and a knowledge of matters of the flesh.

But she never counted on Elijah being so honorable. When Samantha is listed as the mistress of the Marquis of Ridgefeld in White’s betting book, her reputation is in ruins—and only Elijah can save her. Can two total opposites come together for a love certain to last a lifetime?

My Review

*I received a copy via NetGalley

I knew Samantha’s story was going to be an adventure and I was right. The pain of their pasts brings them together to help and understand each other in many ways. I really liked that it picked up with her sister’s wedding and continued a bit of the story. I loved that they were opposites on some things, but not on others because it was like it made them think and understand each other. Their chemistry was amazing and the sparks definitely were flying.  The ending was perfect and I liked how it was working out with her father.

Samantha is not shy and can come close to be scandalous in her behavior, but that’s why I love her. She was in a limbo over her sister getting married and then her father showing up and it was heartbreaking because not everyone saw it. I loved her personality.

Elijah is a bit quieter and more careful, but just as adventurous if not more. He was in his own limbo over his grandfather and mother and no one knew the whole story. I loved how he was a bit out of place in the city after all of his travels, but still fit in at the same time.

I can’t wait to see what else Christina has in store for this series. I hope to see more on Samantha’s father and Elijah’s mother.

My Review

*I was provided a copy by the author in exchange for my honest review

An amazing start to a series! I read this in one sitting because I could not put it down. When you have a father that is crazy and will do anything to make sure you marry who he wants and for crazy reasons, a lady only has one choice. And that to run off all the men that her father has picked with some very interesting plans. I loved all the unexpected twists in the story and differences between Lilly and Max. They were made for each other, but both had reasons they didn’t want to get married and the back and forth was great. I loved the ending and many of the characters.

Lily is very smart and wants to be free from her father for good reason. I loved how she ran off the men and how she got her cousins to help. Her ancestry was unexpected and very different from others and I loved it. My heart broke at her fears of what it would be like to be married and have children, but her reasons were totally understandable. She has some great skills to help people.

Max is pretty much the perfect man in the eyes of everyone and for good reason. I loved him from the start when he met with his father and the work he did. He had no plans to marry and to avoid her, but curiosity drew him to her. I liked that he never gave up on understanding her. At one time I wanted to knock him upside the head, but he quickly realized his mistake. The lengths he went to in the end was amazing.

Loved her cousins and his whole family especially his mother. I was shocked about Wesley and hope to see him again along with her cousins.

——–
Stealing the Rogue’s Heart is a dark, gritty, and sexy romantic suspense set in pre-Victorian working class London. While it is book four in the Rookery Rogues series, it can be read as a stand-alone historical romance novella.

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I’ve waited for this one and it didn’t disappoint! Just when you think there isn’t more to learn about the rookeries and the gangs Erica Monroe has more for us. This is a novella, but it is packed with suspense and romance. It almost has a Romeo and Juliet feel because they are from rival gangs, different backgrounds, lifestyles, but love keeps them together. I loved how I never expected the fights, the rescue, or what her brothers would do.

Mina is a sharp-tongued girl that does not shy away from anything. I loved her from page one and whenever she was mad look out because the things she said made their point. When she told her brothers off I cheered and when she told Charlie her plan to keep from marrying who her brothers wanted she didn’t hesitate. Her brothers didn’t know her as well as they thought.

Charlie will fight anyone and do anything to protect Mina and you will love him from the start. He was definitely a fighter and did what he thought was best even if it meant giving up Mina. For someone raised in the conditions he was, he was not a hardened person and had a gentle heart.

I liked her brother Cyrus and hope to see more of him along with Jane.
