AN HEIRESS FALLS FROM THE HEAVENS…
When Bermudian salt heiress Caitrin Beckett drops out of a tree in her haste to escape a brothel, she comes face to face with Lord Daniel Westham and instantly catches the rogue’s attention. Luckily, she secures his promise to help her locate a childhood friend who’s gone missing in London. Now if only she can keep from losing her heart to the charming rake in the process.

My Review

Ava can write a sweet book that is still full of passion and tension like no other. The moment she came face to face with him I knew they were going to be a fun couple. There was an instant connection between them that everyone could see. I was not expecting the ending to her search for her friend. I loved how they could understand each other and tell their secrets. I also didn’t expect what made him realize he loved her.

Caitrin has no plans to live in England or let her heart be broken again. She wasn’t afraid to do anything and could take care of herself. I loved her right away because she wasn’t going to sit in that room and wait to see what happened.

Daniel will melt your heart with how he is with his niece. He enjoyed the way he lived, but that changed when he met her. I loved that he didn’t put on an act and even with his reputation everyone loved him.

After five years on the Marriage Mart, Miss Aquilla Knox is ready for spinsterhood until a benefactress steps in to help her secure a husband. Only Aquilla doesn’t actually want to marry—her failure is entirely on purpose. When the earl she’s nicknamed the Duke of Deception sets his sights on her, she refuses to be drawn in by her attraction to him. If there’s one thing she knows it’s that a gentleman is never what he seems.

Edward Bishop, Earl of Sutton, has a reputation for courting young misses and dropping them without a second thought. This has earned him a reputation for deceit, a description he can’t refute because he does in fact, harbor secrets and will do anything—deceive anyone—to ensure they don’t come to light. As he comes to know the charming Miss Knox, his resolve is tested. However, trust comes at a price and Ned won’t pay with his heart.

Excerpt

Miss Knox, I hope you won’t think me overbold, but I must ask what you’re about. You’re quite different than you were during our other meetings. I am…surprised.”

And disappointed. She could hear it in his voice. Normally, this gave her a jolt of delight. She knew the gentleman would likely never trouble her again. Sutton, however, had seen her in another light. That was a mistake she hoped to fix.

She pursed her lips, sticking them out so that she looked like a fish. “I’m the same, I think.”

No, not at all, and please don’t insult me—or yourself—by saying otherwise. Tell me what is the matter.” His tone was direct and possessed a touch of hardness as well as concern. There was more of the latter, actually, but perhaps that was due to the way he was looking at her. As if he peered straight though her ruse and saw her.

This time when she stumbled, it wasn’t an act.

Pardon me,” she murmured.

Again he held her steady, his hands warm and secure.

Tell me,” he repeated. “Please.”

She couldn’t bear to look at him, so she fixed her gaze over his shoulder at the swirling ballroom. “I thought men liked vapid women.”

Not smart men.” His fingertips skimmed the space above her waist. Tingles of awareness danced up her spine. “Not the ones worth having,” he said softly.

She couldn’t keep from looking at him then. His gray eyes watched her intently, captivating her while he steered them about the floor with precision and grace.

She should keep up the act or do something else to deter him. But why bother? It wasn’t as if he would marry her. He didn’t marry anyone. So he might pay her attention for a while, but he would move on. That could not be disputed.

Aquilla allowed herself to relax. He was safe. Especially since her time on the Marriage Mart was nearly at an end. First thing tomorrow, she’d tell Lady Satterfield about her plan to become a companion.

Why did you really ask me to dance?” she asked. If he could be unflinchingly honest, so could she. It felt good actually.

He lifted a shoulder. “Because I wanted to. I’ve enjoyed your company. It also seemed you owed me a favor.” The side of his mouth curved up, but only briefly, as if he were trying to suppress a smile. Was he flirting with her?

Did I?”

He leaned his head a trifle too close and whispered, “Because I rescued you.”

Of course. She smiled. “Indeed you did. May we consider the debt repaid?”

He pondered this a moment, his gaze lifting toward the chandelier for a step or two. “I’m not certain that’s fair. You did falter, and your foot nearly stomped mine. I think I’ll have to demand another dance.”

Demand? I’m not at all sure I enjoy autocratic gentlemen.”

He looked suddenly terrified. “Do you mean to change my nickname to the Duke of Demanding?”

You’re joking.” She hadn’t been sure, but the crinkles next to his eyes gave him away. “Yes, you’re joking. Just for that I’m going to call you the Duke of Disagreeable.”

He laughed. “This is much better, thank you. I was horrified for a moment there that I’d misjudged you. I’m glad I did not.”

His gaze delved into hers, and she heard his words in her mind: Not the ones worth having. Were there truly any of those?

She doubted it very much, but for the first time wondered if there just might be. Could Sutton be one of them?

That she even entertained the thought filled her with trepidation. He was charming and clever, but he was still the Duke of Deception. He could be worth having, or he could be an utter fiend.

Neither mattered to her because she never planned to find out.

My Review

This is my favorite so far in this series! There are issues in this one that you normally don’t see in historical romance and I love it. They had chemistry from the moment they met and their wedding happened quickly to protect her, but you could tell they loved each other before they even knew it. I loved when they visited the hospital and the proposal. Only one scene had me screaming towards the end, but it worked out perfectly.

Aquilla is someone that I loved from the start. She may not want to marry and comes from not so good home, but she is strong and everyone loves her. I absolutely love her methods for keeping men away and she is very good at her acting. She did what she had to when it came to her family and saving herself.

Ned will make you fall in love with him the moment you learn his secret and the work he does. I loved that he kept putting ladies to his test until he met Aquilla. He doesn’t hold back when he doesn’t like someone or something they say, but he does it in a way that doesn’t cause a scene.

Their passion leaps off the pages. I wanted to smack her father and brother for how they treated her and their own wives. At first, I didn’t like her mother, but once I realized why she was that way I felt for her. I love his aunt like crazy because of how she helps him and that she doesn’t seem to shy away from anything.

Juliana, Lady Courtenay, is no stranger to scandal. Not after her late husband died in the bed of another man. Now that the mourning period for her unwanted marriage is over, she is impatient to celebrate her freedom-and what better way than with a love affair during the most festive time of year? Finally she can experience the excitement of spending the entire night with a man completely devoted to her pleasure. Except when she asks Lord Misrule to be her very first lover, the rogue declines.

Lord Misrule is eager for a diversion that will banish the regrets that always resurface during the Christmas season. Yet he cannot accept the desirable widow’s tempting offer. If he did, he knew it would be impossible to adhere to his strict rules for affairs- no debutantes, no innocents, and no attachments-all of which are necessary to prevent future misfortune.

But when it seems Lady Courtenay will choose a loess-than-honorable man to be her lover, Lord Misrule’s chivalrous nature insists he charge to her rescue. He offers her a twelve-day affair, intent on providing her with a fortnight of pleasure without causing her heart, or his, a lifetime of harm.

My Review

I really enjoyed this one. It’s scandalous enough to have your husband die in the bed of another woman, but another man is a scandal that many would have hid from, but not Juliana. She is now free to do what she wants as a widow and has a plan. This one did have some Christmas magic to it by banishing their pasts. I loved how they both hand things they regretted and it brought them together.

Juliana is very forward and clear about what she wants but is also still innocent. She did not let her marriage and the scandal pull her down. I loved everything about her and the way she thought about things.

Nicholas got his nickname because of things he did and he has regretted it since it caused something tragic. He is a very honorable man even though he doesn’t realize it. I loved how he freaked out if he broke one of his rules.

They both had friends that knew them very well and told them what was what. I wanted a bit more back story, but there is enough to understand them.

Blurb:

Lady Pippa Godfrey has suffered the most ruinous London Season. She escapes to her Somerset estate for a quiet Christmastide holiday with her family, away from society’s prying eyes. But before her parents can join her, a storm crashes down on Somerset to destroy any hope of Pippa’s white Christmas dream. The roads have flooded and travel is impossible, leaving her stranded and alone. But a muddied, angry and devilishly handsome lord appears at her door demanding shelter.

Lucas Hartfeld, the Earl of Maddox, has been summoned by his parents, the Marquis and Marchioness of Bowmont, to attend a holiday party in the wilds of the country, far from his London townhouse. He suspects they command his attendance for far different reasons than a simple country party. When a storm strands his carriage, he’s forced to seek shelter at the only home for miles around, a local manor called Helton House.

When Lady Pippa is reluctant to admit him, he does what he’s been raised to do—demand she provide him and his servants with shelter until the storm passes. But the beautiful woman draws his interest far more than he’s willing to admit. Can Lucas find a way out of the predicament his parents are planning?

As Lady Pippa scrutinizes another arrogant, demanding lord, she is bombarded with memories of betrayals in her past. Can she forget those difficult life lessons to claim a Christmastide kiss from a perfect stranger?

Greetings,
In regards to the Matter of the un-entailed Estate of the late-Jonathan Hambly, 10th Earl of Banfield, be advised that your attendance is urgently required at the reading of his lordship’s Last Will & Testament, to take place on November 1st of this year at Castle Keyvnor in Bocka Morrow, Cornwall.
Regards,
Mr. Timothy Hunt, Esq.

When the late-Earl of Banfield’s distant relations descend upon Bocka Morrow, they’ll find gypsies, witches, pixies, smugglers, and one very haunted castle. And if they’re lucky, they might just fall in love while they’re there.

VEXED, The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor includes:

Erica Ridley’s Romancing the Rogue
When the new earl inherits, poor relation Miss Rebecca Bond must wed immediately or be out on her ear. The only man she’s ever loved is summoned to hear the will—but he already rejected her so soundly that they haven’t spoken in years. Yet who better than a rakish Viscount to teach her how to snare a gentleman who appreciates her charms?

Ava Stone’s Once Upon a Moonlit Path
Lady Cassandra Priske sees dead people…not all the time, but occasionally. When her family is summoned to Castle Keyvnor for the reading of her great uncle’s will, Cassy is more than terrified. After all, the castle is famous for its hauntings. But the very last person, dead or alive, she expects to find there is the rakish Lord. St. Giles. After all, she spent the last season hiding from that very man.

Elizabeth Essex’s Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Nessa Teague has never believed in the magic that swirls around her village like a fine Cornish mist. She’s never had need of it. Until the day Lord Harry Beck returns to Bocka Morrow and Nessa realizes there is nothing, including the blackest of magic, she won’t do to have him for her own.

My Reviews

Romancing the Rogue by Erica Ridley

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋

Loved the start of this story! I was shocked that pretty much everyone in the castle forgot she was there and thought everything was a ghost. The new earl seems to not care what happens to her as long as she is gone and he doesn’t have to take care of her. I loved the maze and how the back story.

You have to love Rebecca from the start. She kept herself busy by going over the estate books and correcting figures and she would stand up to anyone. She had no desire to marry and could actually make it on her own, she had proved that already. She is still angry at Danial but understood why he did what he years ago.

Danial did not come off as the rogue as much as I expected, but I loved him. He loved being in parliament and doing everything involved with it more than the parties. You fall in love with him the moment he leaves for the castle because what he did has bothered him for years.

I was expecting more from the haunted castle and for some reason, I want to know more about Danial’s grandmother and why she acted like she did. Overall a good story to get you in the mood for Halloween.

I always look forward to books like this from Ava Stone because she knows how to give you the chills with the ghosts along with a great romance. I got the chills from the moment they arrived at the castle and almost jumped whenever the ghost showed up. I loved the story of the first time Jack saw Cassandra and how they acted together.

I loved Cassandra and felt so bad for her with how her parents treated her like she was crazy. She is just so sweet and innocent and open to things that people didn’t understand. I was glad to see her stand up for herself in the end.

Jack can charm anyone even a reader. He used his charm when needed to help Cassandra and it wasn’t a show. He just was naturally charming, but also had a trick up his sleeve at times. The way he interacted with Cassandra’s brother and her dog could melt your heart.

Oscar the poodle just adds to the fun of the story and so did Cassandra’s cousins and the gypsies. The ending was unexpected and I loved it and didn’t it to end! I really want to know who the ghost was.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by Elizabeth Essex

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋💋💋

This was my first time reading a book by Elizabeth Essex and it did not disappoint. I loved how this one was in the village and showed more about the free trade as they called it. I was excited to see the witch and the magic from back then. I did not expect the small mystery involving treason and Nessa’s family and I had no clue how it was going to turn out until the end. I laughed when Nessa finally spoke her mind and told Cods off and almost thought a ghost was going to pop out in some areas. The ending was great and a bit of a surprise.

I just love Nessa’s name and how sweet she is. She always was the good girl her father wanted until she had enough of doing everyone else’s work. I liked that she was protective of her family but also used her mind and didn’t make excuses for it.

Harry is an interesting man. You would never think he was a lord by the way he talked and acted because he was truly meant for the sea. He didn’t hide things from Nessa and always said what was on his mind.

I wish there was more back story for both and I wanted to know more about Nessa’s sister, but it was a great story. The squire’s daughter was a very interesting person and a bit scary with her plans.
