Four dukes. Two balls. One prizefight.

Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens will never be the same.

After England’s victory in the Battle of Waterloo, the Prince Regent arranges a series of lavish celebrations at London’s notorious Vauxhall Gardens. The royal festivities bring together the rich and the desperate, the criminal and the lordly…and allow four very different dukes to find the love of a lifetime.

A proper viscount is kidnapped by a duke of the criminal underworld, only to encounter a mysterious woman from his past. A retired prizefighter, once known as the Duke of the Ring, stakes his reputation on a scrappy young boxer for the sake of a long-lost love. A traveler who inherited a dukedom needs a tightrope dancer’s help with a fake engagement that just might turn real. And the buccaneer son of a royal duke goes hunting for a respectable, highborn wife to salvage his scandalous reputation.

Let the pleasures begin…

The beginning will definitely hook you! I loved everything about it from beginning to end. I love the setting of this one because it was not in ballrooms and showed the other side of London. I did not see the ending happening the way it did, but it was perfect.

Kate is definitely someone you want on your side. She is doing what she has to so she can stay alive and hide her identity.  I loved her because she acts tough and heartless, but she really just has walls up and has shut down.

Henry is a man who never expected to be in the position he is or have a title. I loved him from the start because he kept his cool and had always had a plan. He saw her for the real her and wanted to help.

Who doesn’t love a good prize fight! Another one outside the ballroom that I love. lies tore them apart years ago, but the need for help brought them back together. I loved the details in the training and how it brought them together. I wasn’t expecting the part with her one brother or his father in the end.

Patience is a woman that made it clear how much she hated him years ago. She blames herself for not noticing the truth all those years ago but seeing him again wakes up her heart. I loved that she could break a nose and listened to the truth.

Godrick has made a name for himself and a fortune. He wasn’t your typical lord and was a great trainer. I loved how he understood why she hated him and that he was still willing to help.

A tightrope dancer and a Duke afraid of heights make a great match! I loved the back story and that they still got along. I was not expecting the twist with her or what happened later, but it played out well. They were one of those couples that were meant to be together from the start.

Poppy is a woman that doesn’t let anything keep her down. She was going to take care of herself after what happened to her and being a tightrope dancer was perfect for her. I loved her from the start and how she was with everyone because she understood things.

Leo is a man on a mission. He’s trying to help his uncle and do better than his brother. I loved him from the start when he told her his plan and how open he was about himself. He is unique in the best way.

Scandals and reputations are forgotten when love comes into play. I loved this one and how it included events from the other stories. Both of them had scandals that were not their fault from the past and they brushed them off. There are many characters that I loved from her parents to his family and her best friend. The ending was perfect for this story.

Antonia is very blunt and does what she wants. I loved her right away because of her bluntness and how she could protect herself even if things she did caused trouble. She surprised me with everything she did and said. Loved her nickname!

Roman scares ladies off because of his past and a scare he has, but he is a great man behind all of that. I loved him because he didn’t blink at the way she talked and could match her with the teasing and bluntness.

After the tragic death of his wife, Jasper, the 8th Duke of Bainbridge buried himself away in the dark cold walls of his home, Castle Blackwood. When he’s coaxed out of his self-imposed exile to attend the amusements of the Frost Fair, his life is irrevocably changed by his fateful meeting with Lady Katherine Adamson.

With her tight brown ringlets and silly white-ruffled gowns, Lady Katherine Adamson has found her dance card empty for two Seasons. After her father’s passing, Katherine learned the unreliability of men, and is determined to depend on no one, except herself. Until she meets Jasper…

In a desperate bid to avoid a match arranged by her family, Katherine makes the Duke of Bainbridge a shocking proposition—one that he accepts.

Only, as Katherine begins to love Jasper, she finds the arrangement agreed upon is not enough. And Jasper is left to decide if protecting his heart is more important than fighting for Katherine’s love.

My Review

I absolutely loved this book! I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. As always Christi’s characters feel so real that you can picture them and almost feel their feelings. I loved everything in the book especially how neither one realized that they needed each other. Neither one thought that a trip that they were against to the Frost Fair would change their lives forever and for the better. The way they talked to each other when they met will make you laugh with how straight forward they were and every time he talks about his fist wife your heart breaks.

Kathrine is a heroine I loved from the start. She is bold and has no problem standing up to Jasper. I laughed every time she got mad because I knew her finger would be waving and poking. When she made her offer to Jasper she did it in such a way that you knew she meant business and that she wasn’t going to run. She never backed down even when he told her about his wife and she was going to help him.

Jasper will break your heart and make you love him. He truly loved his wife and blamed himself for her death and punished himself. He could be cold to her at times, but because he loved her and didn’t want to belive it himself or open himself up to any feelings at all. I almost cried during the scene with her niece and him because it was so touching and a bit funny too. I did cry when he finally realized he loved and spoke to the painting.

Every character was interesting. I loved her twin sister because she wasn’t like everyone thought. Her mother feared what might happen to them so she pushed on her making her less than her sister. Both had people on staff that will make you smile and laugh.

Hopeless romantic, Lady Emmaline Fitzhugh, is tired of sitting with the wallflowers, waiting for her betrothed to come to his senses and marry her. When Emmaline reads one too many reports of his scandalous liaisons in the gossip rags, she takes matters into her own hands.

War-torn veteran, Lord Drake devotes himself to forgetting his days on the Peninsula through an endless round of meaningless associations. He no longer wants to feel anything, but Lady Emmaline is making it hard to maintain a state of numbness. With her zest for life, she awakens his passion and desire for love.

The one woman Drake has spent the better part of his life avoiding is now the only woman he needs, but he is no longer a man worthy of his Emmaline. It is up to her to show him the healing power of love.

My Review

This is my first book by Christi Caldwell and I am hooked. I love a good scandal and this was different in a great way. An arranged marriage, a wallflower and soldier that is tortured by his time at war. I loved how Emmaline had a temper, but was still understanding and didn’t run when she found out about Drake’s past and how he suffered. I really understood Drake and why he didn’t want to get married because he thought he was crazy. they really were met to be together. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
