What I’m Reading This Week: The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin

stencil-blog-post-feature-2

If you follow me on Instagram then you have seen what I’m reading this week. I am reading The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin! I am obsessed with the TV series Victorica which is based on her book Victoria and she also created the show. So when a friend said she had two of her books and sent them home with me after a girls night I quickly checked my blog schedule so I could start reading as soon as I had nothing else on my calendar.Capture

Somethings kept me from diving in a few days ago. but I will be tonight and will be reviewing it for Book Review Wednesday!

I also had to take this pretty picture of the book.

stencil-blog-post-feature-2

This week I’m reading My Highlander Husband by Nancy Pennick and you will see it’s review Friday during the blog tour for it! It’s set in one of my favorite time periods in the 1700’s and sounds like a lot will happen it.

I am also reading the Regency Ever After: Timeless Tales and Fables II box set that is by some authors I know and love and a couple of new to me authors. I am going to do one big post with all the reviews probably on the 7th.

For this week’s Review Wednesday I’m not sure what it will be so it will be a surprise.

Back To The Normal Routine

stencil-blog-post-feature-1

I am back to my normal routine and schedule with the blog after a month of reviews. I have a lighter schedule this month with books that need to be reviewed so there will be more writing updates and other posts this month so I thought I would start off with giving some updates!

Update #1 My writing!

I didn’t win at NaNoWriMo which I wasn’t aiming for and I came very close to hitting my own goal, but holiday stuff got in the way. I have been applying myself to my writing since then and I’m getting there a couple of thousand words every time I sit down and write. My brother has become the person I bounce things off of when trying to figure something out and if it makes since. His science knowledge comes in handy with some details like how I will kill someone and if it’s possible.

I somewhat know how I’m going to end it and some of the in between, but I still have to fill in some places. My characters are still leading on where they want things to go and how they will act. My Heroine surprised me by being very bold in a scene, but in a good way.

HE PUT HER ON A PEDESTAL
When Celeste Gray arrives in the sleepy village of Brixcombe-on-the-Bay, she thinks she’s one step closer to leaving her notorious past behind. She even suspects the deliciously handsome—if somewhat stuffy—viscount next door is developing a tendre for her. That is, until the day Ashlin Lancester learns she’s not the unassuming spinster she’s pretending to be.

NOW SHE HAS FARTHER TO FALL
After a decade of proving he is nothing like his profligate father, Ash is horrified to have given his heart to a Cyprian. He launches a campaign to prove his attraction is nothing more than a sordid reaction he can’t control. But he soon learns that unlike his father, he can’t find comfort in the arms of just any woman. He needs Celeste. When he takes her as his mistress, he’s still not satisfied, and the many late nights in her arms only make him want more…

My Review

I love books that are outside of the ballrooms of London and feature women that aren’t debutantes and this one was perfect. You feel the emotions in the emotional scenes and the sparks between Celeste and Ashlin from the time they meet. Just when you think everything will work out fine there is something to throw it off for a bit and will you have excited to turn the page and see what happen next. Scene after scene I feel in love with the characters more.

Celeste is a woman that can take care of herself and will do anything to keep her friend’s baby safe. She wanted to leave her past behind and start a new life, but she attracts men without trying. She has a big heart when it comes to people she cares about and her childhood is one of the reasons why. I loved her right away and felt for her when she realized she was alone.

Ash is an overprotective big brother to his sisters. He was so afraid of scandal because of his parents that he so worried about what his sisters did and who they were with that it pushed them to rebel. My heart broke for him when he found out the truth about Celeste and then tried to forget her. There were times where I wanted to shake him, but once his parent’s death was explained everything made sense even when it wasn’t like he remembered.

All of the characters were amazing! Ash’s sisters were fun and bubbly and had great stories of their own. This is a great start to a series.

Hiding from a dangerous man, Tess Crawford thought The Wiggons’ School for Elegant Young Ladies would be the perfect place to disappear. Or it would be if the local villagers weren’t on edge because of the vampire in their midst, at least they think he’s a vampire. The fascination with the reclusive viscount disrupts the girls’ studies and Tess fights an unending battle to convince her students that monsters do not exist.

Vincent Latimer, Viscount Atwood, is not a vampire, no matter what the villagers believe. He wishes the book, Wake Not the Dead, had never been written. There is a very good reason he visits his wife’s grave at night, and it has nothing to do with trying to raise her from the dead.

When a storm thrusts Tess into Vincent’s path and destroys the school, both of their pasts collide.

My Review

This one will keep you on the edge of your seat! I never knew what was going to happen next or how it was going to end. This one is great to read on a rainy night. I never expected them to be connected the way they were or that the girls would play a part in things like they did.

Tess is hiding for a very good reason. The man she is hiding from will kill her once he gets what he wants and he will do anything to get it. She is a strong woman that will do anything to protect the girls she teaches even if it means sacrificing her heart and running again. I loved how she didn’t believe any of the rumors and actually fought them.

Vincent is plagued by rumors that he’s a vampire because he visits his wife’s grave every night at midnight. He has a very good reason for why he isn’t seen out during the day. I expected him to be cold, but he wasn’t most of the time. The way his wife died was tragic and he wants revenge. I loved how he surprised himself by inviting the girls there and becoming protective of them.

I absolutely loved his staff especially Wesley and loved all the girls.

What I’m Currently Reading: How To Kiss A Rogue by Amanda Mariel

31835162

I have been waiting for this book since reading A Kiss At Christmastide by Christina McKnight (click the link for my review)! After meeting the heroine of this one in A Kiss At Christmastide I can’t wait to see how she changes because in that book she was the character that caused problems and everyone wanted to hate, but I saw hope for her and can’t wait to see what happens.
The cover is gorgeous especially that dress! This will be this week’s Book Review Wednesday.

Bonus Writing Update

After a busy few weeks of reading, I am back to writing. I have new headphones (Claire the cat got ahold of my last ones) so I can listen to music again and write.

Sir Colwyn North’s uncanny seductive powers made him an excellent spy- but they also gave him the worst sort of reputation. Given his dreadful past, his only hope of winning the hand of the very proper Lady Jane Dew is to trick her into marriage. By way of seduction. While in disguise.

Jane has had enough of tedious propriety; she wants excitement. Duty- bound, she attends a Christmas house party at the estate of a scheming marquis, who has plans of his own for her. She intends to choose her own husband, and the son of the marquis is not on her list. The enthralling but nameless seducer who visits her nightly in her dreams might be…but first she has to find out who he is.

Will Lady Jane reject Sir Colwyn when she discovers the truth? Or will he find another devious way to capture her heart?

My Review

This story was good, but just not what I expected. I liked the whole spy storyline and trying to figure out the mission. It felt a bit on the paranormal side for me with the people sending dreams and the master, but the rest of the story was good. I liked how the marquis kept trying to marry his son and Jane by making a scene. I also like the ending and how they did everything. I do love the title and how it was part of the story.

Jane was very proper, but she could also stand up for herself when she needed to. I liked when she through the fit and revealed so much stuff to keep from being forced to marry.

Colwyn was interesting and loved Jane. He just didn’t know how to go about getting her without causing more problems. I like that broke rules, but also followed them.

I loved the reason Gentry did whatever he was told and his ending. I wanted to know more about everyone.
