Three sinfully handsome dukes, three scores to settle, three hearts about to meet their matches. All in one thrilling new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Madeline Hunter . . .

NOTORIOUS NOBLEMAN SEEKS REVENGE
Name and title: Adam Penrose, Duke of Stratton.
Affiliation: London’s elite Society of Decadent Dukes.
Family history: Scandalous.
Personality traits: Dark and brooding, with a thirst for revenge.
Ideal romantic partner: A woman of means, with beauty and brains, willing to live with reckless abandon.
Desire: Clara Cheswick, gorgeous daughter of his family’s sworn enemy.

FAINT OF HEART NEED NOT APPLY
Clara may be the woman Adam wants, but there’s one problem: she’s far more interested in publishing her women’s journal than getting married—especially to a man said to be dead-set on vengeance. Though, with her nose for a story, Clara wonders if his desire for justice is sincere—along with his incredibly unnerving intention to be her husband. If her weak-kneed response to his kiss is any indication, falling for Adam clearly comes with a cost. But who knew courting danger could be such exhilarating fun?

My Review

*I received a copy from the author via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Who doesn’t love an independent heroine! I was hooked from the start wanting to know about the feud between the families and seeing how the romance would happen. I love stories about revenge and finding the truth and this one didn’t disappoint. I was not expecting the truth that was revealed or how scandalous everything was, but that’s why I loved it. Her family and his friends all added to the story and made me want more. When it ended I couldn’t believe it was over and now have a book hangover.

Clara is a very independent woman and ahead of her time. I loved how she handled things and could lead her life the way she wanted even if it would shock others. When she realized what her new servants thought I laughed because she didn’t blink an eye. She did have a temper, but could easily change once she understood.

Adam can make you fear him or blush depending on his mood and how he talks and looks at you. I loved how he wanted to find the truth, but didn’t let hate cloud his true feelings. He really couldn’t hide his thoughts or lie most of the time, especially with Clara. He realized what really mattered in the end.

The beginning will definitely hook you! I loved everything about it from beginning to end. I love the setting of this one because it was not in ballrooms and showed the other side of London. I did not see the ending happening the way it did, but it was perfect.

Kate is definitely someone you want on your side. She is doing what she has to so she can stay alive and hide her identity.  I loved her because she acts tough and heartless, but she really just has walls up and has shut down.

Henry is a man who never expected to be in the position he is or have a title. I loved him from the start because he kept his cool and had always had a plan. He saw her for the real her and wanted to help.

Who doesn’t love a good prize fight! Another one outside the ballroom that I love. lies tore them apart years ago, but the need for help brought them back together. I loved the details in the training and how it brought them together. I wasn’t expecting the part with her one brother or his father in the end.

Patience is a woman that made it clear how much she hated him years ago. She blames herself for not noticing the truth all those years ago but seeing him again wakes up her heart. I loved that she could break a nose and listened to the truth.

Godrick has made a name for himself and a fortune. He wasn’t your typical lord and was a great trainer. I loved how he understood why she hated him and that he was still willing to help.

The Prodigal Duke by Theresa Romain

A tightrope dancer and a Duke afraid of heights make a great match! I loved the back story and that they still got along. I was not expecting the twist with her or what happened later, but it played out well. They were one of those couples that were meant to be together from the start.

Poppy is a woman that doesn’t let anything keep her down. She was going to take care of herself after what happened to her and being a tightrope dancer was perfect for her. I loved her from the start and how she was with everyone because she understood things.

Leo is a man on a mission. He’s trying to help his uncle and do better than his brother. I loved him from the start when he told her his plan and how open he was about himself. He is unique in the best way.

The Buccaneer Duke by Vanessa Kelly

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Scandals and reputations are forgotten when love comes into play. I loved this one and how it included events from the other stories. Both of them had scandals that were not their fault from the past and they brushed them off. There are many characters that I loved from her parents to his family and her best friend. The ending was perfect for this story.

Antonia is very blunt and does what she wants. I loved her right away because of her bluntness and how she could protect herself even if things she did caused trouble. She surprised me with everything she did and said. Loved her nickname!

Roman scares ladies off because of his past and a scare he has, but he is a great man behind all of that. I loved him because he didn’t blink at the way she talked and could match her with the teasing and bluntness.

Children of Empire

Three cousins, torn apart by lies and deceit and driven to the far reaches of the empire, struggle to find their way home.

Book 2

When all else fails, love succeeds…

Captain Fred Wheatly’s comfortable life on the fringes of Bengal comes crashing down around him when his mistress dies, leaving him with two children he never expected to have to raise. When he chooses justice over army regulations, he’s forced to resign his position, leaving him with no way to support his unexpected family. He’s already had enough failures in his life. The last thing he needs is an attractive, interfering woman bedeviling his steps, reminding him of his duties.

All widowed Clare Armbruster needs is her brother’s signature on a legal document to be free of her past. After a failed marriage, and still mourning the loss of a child, she’s had it up to her ears with the assumptions she doesn’t know how to take care of herself, that what she needs is a husband. She certainly doesn’t need a great lout of a captain who can’t figure out what to do with his daughters. If only the frightened little girls didn’t need her help so badly.

Clare has made mistakes in the past. Can she trust Fred now? Can she trust herself? Captain Wheatly isn’t ashamed of his aristocratic heritage, but he doesn’t need his family and they’ve certainly never needed him. But with no more military career and two half-caste daughters to support, Fred must turn once more—as a failure—to the family he let down so often in the past. Can two hearts rise above past failures to forge a future together?

Excerpt

The ballroom at Government House, Calcutta, 1835

Clare had stopped listening. A prickle of awareness drew her gaze to the entrance where another man entered. He stood well above average height, he radiated coiled strength, and her eyes found his auburn hair unerringly. Captain Wheatly had come. The rapid acceleration of her heart took her off guard. Why should I care that he’s here?

Clare? The lieutenant asked you a question.”

Lieutenant? Clare blinked to clear her head, only to see Mrs. Davis’s icy glare turned on Captain Wheatly. “Is that your strange captain from the black neighborhood?” she demanded in a faux whisper.

The lieutenant’s avid curiosity added to Clare’s discomfort. “Is that Wheatly in a captain’s uniform? I thought they might demote him after the business with Cornell,” he volunteered.

Clare forced herself to turn to the lieutenant. “Cornell?” she asked to deflect Mrs. Davis’s questions.

Collector at Dehrapur. Wheatly assaulted the man. Unprovoked, I heard,” the lieutenant answered.

She looked back, unable to stop herself. Merciful angels, he’s seen me. She watched the captain start toward them. At least Gleason could make introductions.

The lieutenant went on as though he had her full attention. “He was in line for promotion, the one that went to your brother instead. Philip posted over there right after it happened.”

Clare found it impossible to look away. The captain gave an ironic smile when he saw her watching. Mrs. Davis gave a sharp intake of breath when she realized Wheatly’s intent. “He’s coming here? Clare, I think I should warn you that a man who has been passed over as this one was—”

Before she could finish, Colonel Davis, who had been coming from the other direction, met the captain and greeted him with a smile. Clare couldn’t hear the words, but Captain Wheatly’s self-deprecating grin seemed to indicate at least a modicum of respect. The two men approached together.

Captain Frederick Wheatly, may I present my wife, Mrs. Davis.” The captain bowed properly, and the colonel went on, “And our house guest, Miss Armbruster.”

This time the captain’s eyes held a distinct twinkle. “Miss Armbruster and I are acquainted. I met her when she visited her brother in Dehrapur.”

Of course, of course! I should have remembered,” the colonel said jovially. He leaned toward Clare and winked. “He’s a catch, this one. Doesn’t like to boast of his connections, but earls and dukes lurk in his pedigree. His cousin stepped down from Under-Secretary for War and the Colonies just last year!”

Captain Wheatly looked discomfited by that revelation.

Gleason looked skeptical. “The Duke of Murnane?” he gasped.

Before anyone could answer, the small orchestra hired for the occasion began to play, and the captain cocked an eyebrow as if to ask a question.

I think the captain wants a dance, Miss Armbruster. It’s your patriotic duty to see to the morale of the troops,” the colonel said coyly.

Captain Wheatly put out a gloved hand, and she put her equally gloved hand in his. Walking away from Gleason and the Davises, she admitted two things to herself. She was glad he came, and she planned to enjoy the dance.

My Review

*I received a copy via the author in exchange for my honest review.

Just like book one I was hooked.  I love that the stories of all the girls continue and I knew Georgina’s was going to pull at my heart and it did. I wasn’t expecting her father and stepmother to be the way they were and it explained Georgina a lot. I loved the archery tournament in this one and the ending.

Georgina is a sweet and caring girl that comes off as spoiled at times but has her reasons. Every time she was with her father pulled at my heart and kept hoping she would get what she wanted. Once she let it all out she was a bit different in a good way.

Felton is very much like Georgina in wanting to prove something, but for different reasons. He is always there when she needs him even if it doesn’t seem like it. Once he knew what he wanted he set out for it.

I had hoped to see her stepmother change but was happy with what happened in the end.

Though the clan Bowie’s reputation as murderers and thieves precedes them, she believes life with Alec more palatable than living the rest of her life untouched, unmarried, and under the hateful rule of her spiteful father.

Will Alec be able to stick to his original plan of getting his wife with child then leaving her be?

Will Leona finally find the happy home she has always desired?

Will either of them live long enough to realize either of their dreams? Or will the person set on murdering Leona succeed?

My Review

*I was given a copy via the author in exchange for my honest review.

Amazing! This book has so much mystery and passion that I couldn’t put it down. There was an instant connection between Alec and Leona, but both had secrets and pasts that kept them from showing their true feelings.  I knew they would need to let go of everything and something big to happen for them both to put the walls down. The mystery of who was set on killing Leona was so good! I had a couple of suspicions of who it was and was so wrong. Who it was and the reason was so shocking that I dropped my phone in surprise while reading. The ending was perfect as was the whole book.

Leona is a shy, but strong woman. She is not one that you want to mess with because she can be loud and you take what she says seriously. I loved her from the start and how she was with everyone human or animal. My heart broke for when talked about her past and everything that happened during the book.

Alec wants to protect his heart, but he lost it before he knew it. I loved how he kept trying to convince himself of things and how he slowly changed. He came off as a huge tough guy that believed it was his way or no way, but he was different in many ways. My heart broke for him too near the end because of everything happening.

I loved so many characters even Derrick when the truth was told and Satan/Patches. This is must read that you can’t miss out on.

My Review

*I received a copy from the author for my honest review

This one provided many laughs from the start. As soon as they ended up married I knew it was going to be interesting. They had different backgrounds from most books I read and I loved that because there were different challenges for them. I was afraid that things wouldn’t work out with his past and never knew what was going to happen there. I wasn’t expecting the twist with her father or his family.

Charlotte was determined to respectable and find her father. She had a different upbringing and it affected her in good ways. I loved her because she was very smart and brave in everything she did.

Anthony could put you at ease with his charming ways. His childhood was also very different, but he does what he does for his family most of the time. I loved him from the start because he just had something about him that makes you love him.

This is a great start to a series and I can’t wait for more.

Excerpt

Charlotte harrumphed to hide her amusement. “How are you at pressing wrinkles from gowns?”

“Let me assure you,” Mr. Fairfax informed her with utter seriousness, “that I have never worn a wrinkled gown in all my life.”

“Very gentlemanly.” She tried not to smile. “Let’s see your skill as maid-of-all-work, then. My gowns are in the wardrobe, as is my traveling iron. See what you can do.”

“At your service.” He bowed, then turned and marched to the wardrobe like a soldier off to war.

Now that he couldn’t see her, she let herself grin. The man was incorrigible… but she couldn’t help but find his frankness humanizing and his silliness refreshing. “You’re certain you know what you’re about with those gowns?”

“You will think my valet pressed them,” he called back in a tone filled with such portent that Charlotte half expected her muslins to be dotted with burns in the shape of smoothing irons.

It would almost be worth it, just to have this one night. This memory of a man above her station treating her as if she were above his. Of being an equal, rather than an object incapable of feelings or rights of her own. Of feeling… happy. She hugged herself in astonishment. When was the last time she’d felt safe enough and carefree enough to be happy?

She gazed wistfully at his strong back as he placed the iron in the fire. He smoothed out the first gown on the chaise longue before dampening the wrinkled material with water from the pitcher.

A man like this was even more dangerous than the sort who usually approached her, she realized in surprise. A man like this wouldn’t just take what he wanted. He’d make her want to give it to him of her own free will. Desire him. Long for his kisses. Plead for more.

She forced herself to look away.

No. She would not be like her mother. She had promised herself that the first time she’d seen her mother cry. Charlotte’s life would be different. She’d find a way to be respectable if it killed her.

Which meant keeping her distance from the tempting Mr. Fairfax. No matter what happened.

Ten years ago Ivy Breckenridge’s life was ruined. She had to reinvent herself, and now, after painstakingly making her own way in the world, she’s nearly forgotten the dreams of home and family she’d once nurtured. Until one man peers into her soul and awakens every one of her hidden desires. But no matter how good he makes her feel, she can’t trust him—alone by choice is better than alone by necessity.

With a notorious reputation for training married women in the art of passion, Sebastian Westgate, Duke of Clare, is reviled by some and celebrated by others. He doesn’t allow anyone close enough to see past his charming exterior. When Ivy uncovers the man beneath, the seducer is suddenly the seduced. Enraptured by her mind and spirit, he wants more but revealing his darkest secrets is a price he won’t pay.

My Review

Just like every book by Darcy I was up to 2 am reading the whole book in one sitting. I loved it from the start because they both were different from what others saw. I was not expecting Ivy’s past to come to light the way it or the reasons for the way West acted. I could picture everything as it happened especially a certain scene involving a shirt be removed. I was not expecting his mother and loved when he put her in her place.

Ivy is such a sweet and strong girl. In the other books, I got an idea of what had happened to her but was still shocked at everything that had happened when it was fully told. She needed to be loved and everyone was there for her no matter what.

West most definitely lives up to the name Duke of Desire! He can seduce you just with the way he talks. I was shocked at how he got his reputation and how much of a demand there was for him. He was a rebel when it came to his mother.

I liked getting a glimpse of the Duke of Danger and a couple other characters.

 Excerpt

What are you doing?” She looked utterly bemused, her red-gold brows pitched. It was rather fetching. She was normally quite self-possessed.

Waiting for the Travills to finish their rendezvous behind the bushes over yonder.”

Their wh—” She blushed. “Never mind. How do you know they’re there?”

I was going to conceal myself while I waited for you. Apparently it’s an excellent location for…concealment.”

I see.” She looked around. “As is this.”

He took a small step toward her. “Are you suggesting we have a rendezvous?”

Isn’t that precisely what we’re doing?” She blushed again. “Sort of.”

I don’t know precisely what we’re doing. I’d be more than happy to copy the Travills, however.”

I don’t—” She pressed her lips together. “No. I came to walk. If that no longer interests you, I’ll return to the house.”

She started to turn, but he touched her elbow. It was the slightest connection, but he felt it in every bone, every muscle, every nerve. “Please don’t. I’ll behave.”

She arched a brow at him. “Do you know how?”

He chuckled. “Clearly I do. I’ve been on excellent behavior since you took me to task.”

She nodded primly. “Indeed you have.” She exhaled and brushed her gloved hands down her skirt. “What are we to do then?”

They shouldn’t be too long. I’ll keep an eye out.” He peered around the shrubs and looked toward where the Travills were hidden.

How do you know?” she asked.

Given Travill’s open fall and the way his hand was lifting the hem of his wife’s dress, West was certain they wouldn’t be enjoying a protracted interlude. “If you recall, I’m very observant.”

She brought her hand to her mouth. “Oh goodness. Were they…in flagrante dilecto?”

He laughed and had to modulate his volume before he drew attention to their presence. “Not quite.”

Then how do you know how long they’ll be? Maybe you ruined the mood.”

He laughed again then sobered, looking at her a bit differently all of a sudden. “What do you know of that?”

She turned her head, but he caught the slight coloring of her cheeks. “Nothing. Just what I’ve heard.”

Confident she was the most fascinating woman he’d ever met, he was eager to spend the afternoon with her. He peeked around the hedge again and saw the Travills making their way toward the house.

He turned to Miss Breckenridge. “They’re finished.”

I’m beginning to think we should be too.”

He didn’t like the sound of that. “Why?”

She hesitated. “I don’t know. Because.” She looked as if she might say more but then only added another “because.”

That’s a riveting reason to be sure. I think we should take our walk. It’s not raining, and the view atop Wendover beckons.” He held his arm out for her. “Will you allow me to escort you?”

She glanced at his sleeve and her lip twitched, as if she’d nibbled the inside. “What if someone sees us? If the Travills were out here, someone else could be too.”

She had a point, but he wasn’t deterred. “It’s unlikely. And if we do encounter someone, I’ll come up with an excuse. I’m quite good at that.”

She eyed him warily. “I’m sure you are.”

Shall we then?”

She tentatively put her hand on his arm. “I hope I don’t regret this.”

He covered her fingers with his. “I promise you won’t.”

Stop promising me things.” She took her hand back. “On second thought, I shouldn’t be touching you. That surely won’t help with any of your possible excuses should we run into anyone.”

Fair enough.” He gestured for her to precede him. When she’d moved past him, he let her walk several steps before catching up with her. “And Miss Breckenridge?” She turned her head to look at him, her green eyes bright and intelligent. “I only promise things I know I can deliver.”

Hiding from a future she doesn’t want…

When the new blacksmith in town announces they are to be married, Alexandra Avery does what any bride with cold feet would do. She disobeys her father, dresses in mens clothing, and sneaks away with the cattle drive he just sent east to avoid the inevitable. Little does she know, Jesse Samuels, the annoying boy who made her childhood nearly unbearable is the new trail boss and calling the shots. How will she ever survive being bossed around by him for the next two months?

Handed what he’s coveted the most…

Entrusted with over seeing a cattle drive for the Avery Ranch is exactly what Jesse Samuels needed, especially after hearing Alexandra Avery, the girl he spent the last ten years of his life planning a future with is now engaged. He regrets not staying and fighting for her until he finds her stowed away pretending to be one of the crew. When the other cowboys realize there’s a woman amongst them, his protective instincts kick in. His plan to send her home is thwarted at every turn so he does the only thing he can to ensure her safety. He drags her kicking and screaming to the altar and marries her.

Will love be enough to bind them…

Alexandra and Jesse have always had a love-hate relationship but when the dangers of the open trail take a turn that could cost them their lives, they have to put aside their differences to keep everyone safe. Will the truce be enough to show them what everyone else has always known? Or will they lose each other forever?

My Review

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I have been excited for this book for a long time and it was so worth the wait!! I was hooked from page one and couldn’t wait to see how it played out between them. Just when I thought I knew what would happen next something unexpected would happen. I Loved the bickering between them and how it seemed like they would kill each other, but everyone else saw what was really there. There are a couple of twists that I was expecting at all and there are many scenes that made me laugh. Even the ending was a twist for me, but it quickly made sense.

Alexandra has wanted to work the ranch since she was a little girl and she is determined to prove everyone wrong. She may be grown, but a part of her still acted like that little girl the drove her father crazy. I loved how stubborn she was and that she could throw a punch even though that stubbornness caused a lot of trouble.

Jesse is just as stubborn, but he doesn’t let what he wants get in the way most of the time. I loved him especially when he decided to do what her father and thought about doing with her. He always seemed to know when something wasn’t right and was at times a bit hotheaded and getting into trouble himself.

This is going on my all-time favorites list and I highly recommend it and the rest of the series.

stencil-blog-post-feature-2

If you follow me on Instagram then you have seen what I’m reading this week. I am reading The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin! I am obsessed with the TV series Victorica which is based on her book Victoria and she also created the show. So when a friend said she had two of her books and sent them home with me after a girls night I quickly checked my blog schedule so I could start reading as soon as I had nothing else on my calendar.Capture

Somethings kept me from diving in a few days ago. but I will be tonight and will be reviewing it for Book Review Wednesday!

I also had to take this pretty picture of the book.

An introduction to a rich Marquis brings marriage and security within Caro’s grasp…until the arrival of the unpredictable and totally ineligible Mr. Tobias Felton.

Dismayed by Felton’s persistent appearances, shocking frankness, and enigmatic green eyes, Caro watches helplessly as he comes closer than anyone to guessing her secret, but when complete and utter ruin threatens, she finds that Felton’s suspicions just might become her salvation. As the walls she has built to protect herself crumble down around her, Caro learns that no matter how careful your plans, life and love have a habit of falling quite spectacularly out of control!

Spice Level: 💋

This was my first time reading a book by Philippa Jane Keyworth and I am now a fan! I stayed up until 2:30 am reading the whole book. I love that this one had the powdered hair and beauty patches because I rarely see books with that. They seemed like totally different people, but were alike in many ways when the walls were down. I was not expecting the twist with the Marquis and what he would do or how her brother would be.

Caro is a strong woman that has done what she must to survive after her father dies. I was on edge thinking someone besides Tobias would start to figure it out. She tried so hard to convince herself that Tobias plan would end a different way.

Tobias was very different because he was a gentleman when he wanted to be, but most of the time he said and did what he wanted. I loved how he started changing when he realized his father might follow through with his threat and when he met Caro.

I loved Lady Felton because she was not as quiet as you think at first. I love a good duel scene!

About the Author03_philippa-jane-keyworth

Philippa Jane Keyworth, known to her friends as Pip, has been writing since she was twelve in every notebook she could find. Originally trained as a horse-riding instructor, Philippa went on to become a copywriter before beginning a degree in History. A born again Christian, Philippa lives in the south of England with her handsome husband.

Philippa has always written stories and believes that, since it is one of her loves and passions, she always will. In her early writing career, she dabbled in a variety of genres, but it was the encouragement of a friend to watch a film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice that began her love affair with the British Regency. Since then, she has watched every Regency film and TV series she could get her hands on and become well acquainted with Georgette Heyer’s novels which gave her the inspiration to write her own.

Both as a reader and a writer, Philippa believes it is important to escape into a world you yourself would want to live in. This is why she writes stories that will draw you into the characters’ joys and heartaches in a world apart from our own. Her debut novel, The Widow’s Redeemer (Madison Street Publishing, 2012), is a traditional Regency romance bringing to life the romance between a young widow with an indomitable spirit and a wealthy viscount with an unsavory reputation. The novel has been received well by readers and reviewers who have praised the heartfelt story and admirable characters. Her second novel, The Unexpected Earl (Madison Street Publishing, 2014), explores another romance in the Regency era when an impetuous young woman has her life turned upside down by the reappearance of the earl who jilted her six years ago. Her third novel a Georgian romance will come out at the end of 2016.
