In the gaming hells of eighteenth century London, orphan Caro Worth is leading a double life. By day she plays a proper gentlewoman on the lookout for a wealthy husband. By night she plays the infamous Angelica, her fictional half-sister with a talent for cards and an ability to finance the life her respectable self has built. An introduction to a rich Marquis brings marriage and security within Caro’s grasp…until the arrival of the unpredictable and totally ineligible Mr. Tobias Felton.

Dismayed by Felton’s persistent appearances, shocking frankness, and enigmatic green eyes, Caro watches helplessly as he comes closer than anyone to guessing her secret, but when complete and utter ruin threatens, she finds that Felton’s suspicions just might become her salvation. As the walls she has built to protect herself crumble down around her, Caro learns that no matter how careful your plans, life and love have a habit of falling quite spectacularly out of control!

This was my first time reading a book by Philippa Jane Keyworth and I am now a fan! I stayed up until 2:30 am reading the whole book. I love that this one had the powdered hair and beauty patches because I rarely see books with that. They seemed like totally different people, but were alike in many ways when the walls were down. I was not expecting the twist with the Marquis and what he would do or how her brother would be.

Caro is a strong woman that has done what she must to survive after her father dies. I was on edge thinking someone besides Tobias would start to figure it out. She tried so hard to convince herself that Tobias plan would end a different way.

Tobias was very different because he was a gentleman when he wanted to be, but most of the time he said and did what he wanted. I loved how he started changing when he realized his father might follow through with his threat and when he met Caro.

I loved Lady Felton because she was not as quiet as you think at first. I love a good duel scene!

About the Author03_philippa-jane-keyworth

Philippa Jane Keyworth, known to her friends as Pip, has been writing since she was twelve in every notebook she could find. Originally trained as a horse-riding instructor, Philippa went on to become a copywriter before beginning a degree in History. A born again Christian, Philippa lives in the south of England with her handsome husband.

Philippa has always written stories and believes that, since it is one of her loves and passions, she always will. In her early writing career, she dabbled in a variety of genres, but it was the encouragement of a friend to watch a film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice that began her love affair with the British Regency. Since then, she has watched every Regency film and TV series she could get her hands on and become well acquainted with Georgette Heyer’s novels which gave her the inspiration to write her own.

Both as a reader and a writer, Philippa believes it is important to escape into a world you yourself would want to live in. This is why she writes stories that will draw you into the characters’ joys and heartaches in a world apart from our own. Her debut novel, The Widow’s Redeemer (Madison Street Publishing, 2012), is a traditional Regency romance bringing to life the romance between a young widow with an indomitable spirit and a wealthy viscount with an unsavory reputation. The novel has been received well by readers and reviewers who have praised the heartfelt story and admirable characters. Her second novel, The Unexpected Earl (Madison Street Publishing, 2014), explores another romance in the Regency era when an impetuous young woman has her life turned upside down by the reappearance of the earl who jilted her six years ago. Her third novel a Georgian romance will come out at the end of 2016.

My Review

I loved that this one was set in Tennessee. They were definitely two people that needed each other even though they said they didn’t. From the start, they are both drawn to each other but try to forget about it. I was not expecting the twist with her boss but loved how Sebastian took care of things. I loved his mother and boy was his daughter a handful but when she came around it was not like I expected.

Lucie was determined to take care of her brother no matter what. I loved her spirit and that she was honest about everything. She is someone that everyone instantly loves and wants to help. I loved how she was with her brother and Stella.

Sebastian swore he would never marry again, but he doesn’t know what to do with his daughter. He came off as tough, but he really was the nicest guy and would help anyone. I loved how he was with his mother and the sheriff. When he was protecting someone look out.

He’s a roughhewn bastard. She’s a rebellious noblewoman. Their passion bridges the class divide in a scintillating novel of forbidden desire and raw sensuality from the USA Today bestselling author of To Lure a Proper Lady.

Lady Caroline Wilde is expected to ride sidesaddle, but she’s not about to embrace convention. She’s also expected to keep a chaste distance from men like Adrian Crosby, the new estate agent, yet she cannot cease her ogling—which is especially irksome considering their ongoing feud. Adrian insists that the fields must be planted; Caro needs those same fields to train her horses. But whenever she tries to put him in his place, Caro looks into his steely gaze and her words simply … disappear.

A bastard son who grew up on the Wyvern estate, Adrian was lucky enough to receive an education at the behest of the late marchioness. Now that he has set out on his own, Adrian knows better than to fall for Lady Caroline, the Duke of Sherrington’s daughter. Caroline is at once a thorn in his side and an exquisite temptation, especially when she’s playing the feisty daredevil. Adrian would give anything for a chance to tame her—and with Caro in the saddle, he just might get his wish.

My Review

*I received a copy via NetGalley

Oh do they clash from the start and fight but they also are instantly attracted to each other which adds to the fire. There are shocking twists and some mystery in this book.I loved how much some things surrounded horses and her horse especially. I was not expecting any of the twists when it came to Adrian or the girl that was hired to help. The ending was perfect and left me wanting more.

Caro is defiantly a headstrong woman that knows what she wants and will get it one way or another. She is a lady but doesn’t act like one when it comes to horses or hunts. There were a couple of times where she was so focused on getting what she wanted that she made bad decisions but she bounced back.

Adrian was great at his job and knew his place, but Caro pushed him. I had no idea why he left his last job until it was revealed and was shocked. I loved him from the start and understood why he made the decisions he did. At times he didn’t fully understand Caro, but he never seemed to hold it against her.

I can’t wait for the next one and find out what happens next.

Engaged to a reprehensible baron, Bianca Manning knows she must do something to escape her fate. She decides that a Romany camp is the last place her mad fiance would think to look for her.

The last thing Emilian Carrol needs is a spirited Englishwoman in his life, but he can’t seem to say no when she begs to hide out in his tribe’s camp.

Thomas Barclay, future Viscount Grantham, is bored to tears and looking for a distraction. When his old friend Baron Tisbury asks for help in tracking down his missing fiancee, Tom decides to make himself useful.

Caught between two worlds, Bianca must figure out which man holds the keys to her heart.

My Review

This one will pull at your heart and have you on the edge of your seat. From the start, it was clear that Tisbury was not someone any girl would want to marry and Bianca and her sisters had a good plan. I loved how instantly she was drawn to Emilian and wasn’t sure who she would end up with because Emil and Tom were both good men that would take care of her.

Bianca is not one to be controlled. I loved her as soon as she told Tisbury what might happen to him in the garden. She spoke her mind and didn’t hide her feelings from anyone. She was so torn between them and she struggled with the choice.

Emil was very much the gentleman and was willing to do anything to protect Bianca. His story was shocking and made my heart ache for him. I loved what he offered to her if she married him and how he was with his mother.

Tom was a gentleman too and knew what Tisbury was so he had his own plans. He set out to protect her and found himself wanting to be with her. He could break your heart too with how he gave up things for his family and his sister.

I can’t wait to read the next one and find out what happens.

When Victoria Barclay, privileged daughter of the Viscount Grantham, has a life-altering experience as a young girl, it sets the course for the rest of her life. She is determined to make a difference in the world, no matter the consequence, and becomes a highwayman—or woman, as it were—robbing the rich and donating her pilfered gains to the poor.

Life-long friend and neighbor, Phineas Dartwell, Earl of Leyburn, suspects his dear friend is up to no good. She’s become evasive, and even worse, he cares that she’s become evasive. When she refuses to confide in him, claiming it’s for his own good, he severs the friendship out of wounded pride and a wounded heart.

But when Victoria’s activities are brought to light in the eyes of the magistrate, Phineas must find a way to acquit his friend—and dare he hope, future wife?—of the charges.

My Review

This is the second time I have read this book and love it. I can never pass up a book that has a Robin Hood feel to it! Victoria and Phineas have been friends forever and he looks over her like a brother until he notices she is up to something. Well planned out robberies, adventure, and new feelings pull you into this story.

Victoria is a female Robin Hood. She has been determined to help people since she was a little girl, but her parents don’t share that opinion so she has to do it on her own. She is smart and knows she could hang for what she does and that she could be found out. I loved her and that she was determined.

Phineas is a great man. He has always said Victoria was like a sister and that’s why he watched over, but he soon realized his true feelings. He is a very caring man and an artist that will help anyone that he can. I loved him from the start.

I wished it was longer because it went by so fast.
