When a bluestocking spinster sets her mind to something…

Lady Patience Lane, daughter of the Earl of Desmond and legendary boxer Ivory Bess, grew up learning to fight, not how to mind her manners. She always expected she’d become a trainer like her mother, until injuries from the ring led to her mother’s untimely death. Now, she’s determined to save other families from the same heartache, by teaching others about the dangers of boxing. Nothing could bring her back to the world she left—until she meets a mysterious stranger who sets her pulse racing.

And a dark, dangerous lord interferes…

Sinclair Chambers, the Earl of St. Seville and known as “Sin” to his cohorts, inherited an insolvent estate. He has to make money, and fast, or his tenants will starve. The prize purses from the bareknuckle mills will go a long way to solving his problems, if he can win them. To be a success in the ring, he needs the best trainer, and Patience Lane is the best there is—all he has to do is convince her that he’ll only fight once.

They just might find their happily ever after in each other’s arms.

The more time Sin and Patience spend together, the closer they become. Soon, Sin’s thoughts are less about winning in the ring, and more about winning Patience’s heart. But can a relationship born out of wicked deception stand the test of time?

My Review

How can you not love a woman training a man to fight! Their first meeting was very unique and I knew they were going to be very different in how they did things. I loved that they both were so set on their reasons, but also wanted to help and not hurt each other. Her family just added to everything from her father helping her with her cause to her brothers helping and having their own requirements for things. The ending and proposal was perfect.

Patience’s reason for her cause is heartbreaking, but Sin sparked something in her. She had me from the start with how set she was on things. Then as she realized what her actions had done broke my heart and made we love her more.

Sin stands out from all the other men in many ways. He was determined to save his home and could see through many people. I loved that he was so open to her and the reason behind his name is so sweet.

“This place is too dangerous for a face like yours.”
“I feel as if I’ve heard those words before.”

It’s been several years since Araceli Arroyo left behind the burning ruins of her family’s hacienda in New Mexico for a new start in California. Despite the time that’s passed and all the loss she’s suffered, the painful memory of war is like fresh paint on a blank canvas. Perhaps that’s why the prints she creates always hold a touch of sadness. However, she’s determined to produce something new – a masterpiece that will inspire the folks in the growing town of Blessings. Could the new hire at her father’s sawmill help her do that… or will the secrets he carries destroy them both?

From Texas to New Mexico, problems stick to Miguel Santiago like stink on old fish. Hoping to shed his old life, he’s thankful for a friend’s invitation to start anew in a place where he can be anyone – literally. Operating under the alias of Michael St. James, his fair looks and country twang allow him to pass as any other American cowboy in search of California’s promise of golden opportunities. Could the family he’s always wanted also be part of the prospect… or will the woman of his dreams discard him like her dried jars of paint when his past is revealed?

A story of desire and deception, dismay and deliverance, hearts burn as bright as the summer sun setting on the golden California coastline in this classic western.

My Review

This one may just be my favorite in this series! It’s written in the way that you can easily picture everything in your head and hear them talking. I knew from the moment they met that it would be interesting. I loved how they fit each other and would teach each other (I’m a sucker for certain lesson scenes). Mr. Winslet worked fast and still surprised me with how he works. I actually held my breath at the mountain lion and then again with what happened next. I never saw the twists coming with his problems or his family. You just have to love her father for everything he has done and the twists with him her amazing and a surprise.

Araceli is married to her work and stubborn, but she listens when she should. I loved her right away because even though she wanted to be cold to him she couldn’t fully. The way she talked about painting was amazing. I loved that she was not one to fall to pieces at things.

Miguel has spent his life torn between two worlds and trouble just kept following him. I loved him from the start with how he thought about both sides of things. He was really looking for a new life and in the end got it with a surprise.

I loved that they also spoke Spanish at times in this story because it made them more real.

Harriet’s worthless husband has snatched the world out from under her feet, and then gone and died on her, to boot. First, though, he left her in deep debt and facing foreclosure on the ranch that she loves almost as much as her own children. Livid, staring at bankruptcy and fighting hopelessness, she grits her teeth and comes up with a plan. Money, gold, and jobs are abundant in the boom town of Blessings, California. She’ll start over there, taking one step at a time to rebuild a life with her children, her financial independence, and her dreams of a new ranch.

God help the man who ever gets in her way again…

Jason Meredith, an old friend, has a few things he’d like to say to Harriet, especially now that she’s a widow. He might have better luck surviving a bear attack, though, than thawing her frozen heart. He’s got his work cut out for him, but Jason’s a patient man. At least, he used to think he was…

My Review

I love that it is based on the life of a real person! It was fun to see the competition between her and the other guy because I didn’t know what was going to happen. I loved meeting more of the people from Blessings. This one is a bit different from the others in the series so far since there is a somewhat bad guy and the already know each other.

Harriet is extremely stubborn and ambushes and that can cause some problems. I loved that she was working so hard to rebuild her life. She is haunted by the shadow of her dead husband which makes her do things without thinking. Her temper gets the best of her at times.

Jason is so loving and patient that he is the match for her. I loved him right away because he cared so much about her. He wasn’t afraid to tell her what was holding her back or to be honest with her. He would take care of anyone that dared to hurt her.

I missed the bits of matchmaking in this one.

Lenora Farnsworth’s family moves to untamed California, but will it mean the death of her dream to become a lawyer like her father?

Her father hires Victor Abernathy to protect the family. He’s just as foreboding as the land, but she’s drawn to him all the same. In gold-rush territory, she can be free of the restraints of Boston, but can she get past the rumors about his past enough to risk her future?

Victor is a displaced English heir, looking to make quick money panning for gold.

He’s never met a woman he couldn’t match, until Lenora. Whether it’s her rebuff, her beauty, or quick wit, he can’t keep away. He makes a wager with her—it’s his gambler’s nature—but he’s dealt a bad hand when his plans fall through. Lenora is a prize he can’t afford to lose, but when England calls, will he fold, or take his winnings and run?

My Review

This one will keep you guessing and wondering. I loved the back and forth between them and wondering when they would end up together. They were meant to be together and just needed Atherton Winslet to work his magic. I felt so bad for her mother because she just couldn’t take it. When Victor received that letter I held my breath because I had no clue what it would say. I cheered at the end.

Lenora was not going to be held back and wasn’t going to let anything stop her. I loved her right away because she didn’t keep quiet and she had plans. It took her awhile to open her heart up all the way, but many things had to happen first.

Victor had one plan when coming to America, but that changed once he got to know Lenora. I loved how he changed a bit over time to be more like her father believed him to be. He was more than what he appeared to be.

Victorian class lines are crossed when cook Kat Holloway is drawn into a murder that reaches all the way to the throne.

Highly sought-after young cook Kat Holloway takes a position in a Mayfair mansion and soon finds herself immersed in the odd household of Lord Rankin. Kat is unbothered by the family’s eccentricities as long as they stay away from her kitchen, but trouble finds its way below stairs when her young Irish assistant is murdered.

Intent on discovering who killed the helpless kitchen maid, Kat turns to the ever-capable Daniel McAdam, who is certainly much more than the charming delivery man he pretends to be. Along with the assistance of Lord Rankin’s unconventional sister-in-law and a mathematical genius, Kat and Daniel discover that the household murder was the barest tip of a plot rife with danger and treason—one that’s a threat to Queen Victoria herself.

My Review

*I received a copy from the author via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is more mystery than romance, but it does keep you on wondering about both. I’m not the biggest fan of books told from one POV like this, but with it being a mystery it didn’t bother me too much.  I did love all the characters and how well developed they were. The tension between Kat and Daniel is very clear to everyone and I just kept hoping for them to be thrown together.

Kat is extremely smart and won’t put up with anything. I loved her right away because she never backed down. She has many secrets and things weighing her down, but she keeps going keeps her head high.

Daniel is a mystery himself. I could not figure him out and at all and I love the mystery of him. He always was there when needed and a step ahead in most cases. I loved the way he could change back and forth.

Leaving Ireland for America, Patience “Pati” O’Connor has followed the trail of her heartbroken father west, to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. With no money and a missing father, Pati has no choice but to settle down in a small, gold mining town of Blessings, California. Maybe the rough and tumble place could use a skilled seamstress…

Pete Jones has spent a lifetime fighting. Wounded in battle during the Mexican War, Pete is left with shaking hands, nightmares, and a sour disposition—but his new job protecting gold claims in Blessings just might be what he needs to kick the anguish of his past.

When Pati’s new business is robbed, she seeks help from the ornery yet honorable Pete, who doesn’t seem too keen on sticking his nose into her business. But Pete can’t seem to say no to the vibrant, fiery, oh so beautiful lass, which may spell trouble for his plans to stay lonely and single.

As the town begins to grow around them, and as trouble starts to slither in, Pati and Pete are desperate to find a love more valuable than all the gold in the mountain.

But can Pete be a man worthy of Pati’s love, and can Pati convince Pete she is destined to be his blessed bride?

My Review

An amazing start to a new series! This is one of those where the writing lets you picture every detail like a movie in your mind. I love ones with a matchmaker especially when it’s not a person you would think of doing the matching. I loved the back and forth between them and wondering what was going to happen next and they always caught me by surprise. I did not expect the twist with her father or how the ending would happen. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Pati is a strong and stubborn woman determined to take care of herself. I loved how she slowly became more accepting of help from people and found her way. She realized that her heart was going to lead her no matter what she planned. I loved when her accent came out and when she was mad.

Pete is also a stubborn and determined man, but for different reasons. He tried so hard to stay away from people and to hide his scar, but he met his match with Pati. I loved him right away because I knew there was more to him and it slowly came out. He just needed a push.

My Review

A whirlwind romance happens in the final book of this series. From the way they meet you know it’s going to be interesting. I loved how everything fell into place for them and that they were supposed to be together. The secret was different and I loved how it played into everything. His mother was so sweet and her friends again are not to be messed with.

Josie is not as shy as you think and will not be stopped. I loved how she knew exactly what to do and how she reacted to his secret. Her life completely changed with him and she deserved it.

Devon is stubborn and thinks his plan is the best for everyone. He met his match with her and I love how he realized that he needed her. I loved that he cared so much about his mom.

They’ll do anything to ensure their future together—even fight the supernatural forces aligned against them.

“The Determined Duchess” by Erica Monroe

He stirs an unexpected passion within her, and Felicity has had enough change in her life.

When they were children, Nicholas never understood his aunt’s brilliant but unemotional ward, or her many scientific studies. Now, he’s determined to bring Felicity to London so that she may make a match within society–except he can’t stop thinking about her. But with the line between life and death blurred by Felicity’s experiments, can he convince her that she’s no longer alone, and her proper place is by his side?

The Pixies are back! You know when the Pixies are involved that it’s going to be interesting. I loved how the curse was both was bringing them together, but also keeping them apart. They were obviously meant to be together and everyone could see it. I loved the ritual because that was very different and something I hadn’t seen before.

Gywn loves to learn and plants and everything about an area, but she has never forgotten about that one-time meeting with him. I loved her right away because she didn’t hide her plans and was open to everything. She didn’t hide anything.

Locryn didn’t understand his curse until he arrived for the wedding. I loved that he didn’t bat an eye at what his aunt said or anything that happened. He also loved plants and learning.

This one will pull at your heart and give you goosebumps at times. I loved the spark that was between them and when it exploded it was like years built up. There’s a bit of Frankenstein vibes with her wanting to bring her back and the reason pulls at your heart. They were meant to be together and experiments brought them together.

Felicity is so different from any other heroine and I love her. She will break your heart with her reason for trying to bring her back and how long she has been trying to. It wasn’t that she needed to change who she was, but learn to understand and be around people.

Nicholas wanted to do what he thought was right for. I loved that he didn’t want to control her and wanted to help her. He was what she needed to help her deal with everything.

I couldn’t put this one down! I loved the bit of mystery and the seeds and how it all flowed together. They say each other’s true self and understood everything about each other. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen with thief and how he would be caught. The letters were perfect and I want to know if his sister finds love.

Daphne looked past the outside appearances of people and saw the truth. I loved how bold she was and that wanted to take care of her sister. She didn’t let fear stop her in the end and knew what she wanted.

Alexander was not as he appeared at all and very good it until the right person came along. I loved that he accepted his sister’s wager and was so determined to catch the thief that hurt her. He was one of those people you love right away.

“A Love for Lady Winter” by Christy Carlyle
Lady Winifred Gissing has a secret: she sees ghosts. With this strange skill, and her odd, ethereal appearance, she knows she’ll never find acceptance among society, let alone love. But when she travels to Castle Keyvnor, she meets her aunt’s godson, Septimus Locke, the Earl of Carwarren. Scientific, rational Septimus stirs an unexpected passion in her, and she finds his experiments in galvanism fascinating. Romance sparks between them, but will his past and her unusual ability destroy their chance at happiness?

“His Christmas Angel” by Jerrica Knight-Catania
Ethan Dallimore, Duke of Westbury, would like a little peace in his life. Unfortunately, he has the weight of the world on his shoulders with one demanding sister and one always-underfoot ward. To make matters worse, he arrives at Castle Keyvnor with a debilitating headache that won’t go away. All he wants to do is sleep until it’s gone, but that’s not an option as he’s traveled to the tip of Cornwall to attend a holiday wedding, and even houseguests have their duties. However, Ethan’s desire to sleep is soon replaced with his desire to get to know the mysterious beauty whose mere presence seems to take his pain away.

Miss Angel Quinn doesn’t exactly belong at Castle Keyvnor with all its aristocratic guests, even if she does share a bloodline with some of them. But she knows it’s important to accept the invitation to her long-estranged cousins’ weddings, so she puts on her grown-up bloomers and heads for the castle. But so much more awaits her in the mystical village of Bocka Morrow, and the young witch may soon discover just who she was always meant to be.

“Lady Rose & Lord Snow” by Claudia Dain
The Grimstone has come to Castle Keyvnor. His name is Charles Snowingham and he is the Earl of Grimstone. Upon his right hand he wears the Grimstone ring, an ancient ring imbued with, it is said, ancient power to destroy ghosts and ghouls and otherworldly things. Snow is not the sort of man to believe in fairy tales, until he arrives in Castle Keyvnor, that is, and he meets Lady Rose Hambly.

Lady Rose is determined to escape her ancestral home, Castle Keyvor. She’s not about to admit it publicly, but there is a certain ghost at the castle who is haunting her. Since her sisters Morgan and Tamsyn are being wed on Christmas, and since the castle will be awash with eligible men, she is determined to find a husband as quickly as possible, if only to get away from Castle Keyvnor and her impossible ghost.

What Lady Rose and Lord Snow do not realize is that the ghosts of Keyvnor want them away from the castle immediately, if not sooner. The Grimstone ring spells their doom, and Rose’s ghost doesn’t want to haunt her just as fervently as she wishes not to be haunted. Will Rose take romantic advice from a ghost who does nothing but insult her? Not willingly.

I really loved this one! I was hooked from the start because she could see ghosts and then because they both were unique. The way they first met was very different and really said a lot about love and them. I loved her aunts and that there were secrets surrounding everyone.

Winifred has spent a long time keeping secrets to protect her family and needs to be free. I loved her right away because she wanted to help the ghosts she saw. She needed to let it all out and set herself free.

Septimus needs to let his anger free and forgive before he can be free. I loved him because he was so different and the things he did. He wanted to learn so much and everything.

I had no clue as to why she was being affected in the castle they way she was until it was made clear. They needed each other before they even met and the castle brought them together.

Angel had been for years trying to find out what her gift was and didn’t know it was there all along. I loved that she was on a journey for herself and found love too. She didn’t back down and was very open with people.

Ethan was plagued not only by his sister and ward but also a huge headache that nothing helped. I loved that he was instantly drawn to her and didn’t know why. He was more open than you would think to everything.

The Grimstone ring will definitely make you sit up and pull you into this story. I love that this one was all about destiny and that included some favorite ghosts. So many things were working to bring them together for different reasons. Once they were both in the castle it’s fast from there. I was sad but also happy to see a favorite ghost go.

Rose was completely serious about finding a husband right away even though her plan does go as planned. I loved that she spoke her mind and that people knew she was serious. She was extremely sensitive to the ghost especially one.

Charles wore the ring and thought nothing about the legend about it no matter what his grandmother said. I loved that as soon as he got to the castle he was pulled towards her and didn’t know why. He understood her more than anyone else.

TEMPTED AT CHRISTMAS includes:

Kate Pearce’s And a Pigeon in a Pear Tree
When stuffy Benjamin Priske, Baron Saxelby, heir to the Earl of Widcome arrives at Castle Keyvnor, he not only falls in love at first sight, but is accidentally mistaken for his valet. As he spends time with Henrietta, the witty, beautiful, and self-assured granddaughter of the castle housekeeper, he’s increasingly reluctant to reveal his true identity and spoil the most remarkable days of his life. Can Benjamin overcome his rigid nature, embrace the magical nature of Keyvnor castle, and maybe indulge in a fairytale romance all of his own?

Jane Charles’ His Mistletoe Miss
Anthony Beck, Viscount Redgrave, has always done what was expected of his title and station. Ever the dutiful son, he abides by his mother’s requests even when they tend to the ridiculous. There is no other reason, after all, that he would visit a gypsy camp to acquire a piece of dead mistletoe that should rejuvenated itself once he is on the path of true love. Luckily at the gypsy camp, he happens upon the one lady he’s always wanted to court. Unfortunately, she’s in love with her guardian… Miss Holly Prescott is not in love with her guardian. It is her duty, however, to make certain that nefarious young ladies with hopes of becoming his duchess, don’t trap him into a loveless marriage. This one is full of adventure! I was hooked as soon as she started making her plans in smuggling and loved that this connects to last years story. I loved how they thought alike and were upfront with each other. They really did set off on a dangerous adventure, but I could never see them doing anything else. I did not expect the twist with his sister at the end.

Tressa very much has the heart of a pirate and the mind for planning. She was determined to have her freedom and help other women have theirs. I loved how she knew pretty much everything about him and how she could figure out things.

Matthew knew where his heart was and it wasn’t where his family thought. I loved how he knew she was up to something and didn’t question offering her that adventure. He couldn’t fool anyone in his family.

Kate Pearce’s And a Pigeon in a Pear Tree

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

I love a love at first sight story that has the twist of mistaken identity. I was hooked right away when he arrived and all the confusion started. I loved how the name came into play a bit with the story. I did not know how it would all play out and was on the edge of my seat when he was found out because of the reactions. Loved the twist with her family! Loved seeing Benedict work his magic again.

Henrietta doesn’t expect much from anyone because of her family and past. I loved that she spoke her mind and decided what she wanted with no regrets. She had her reasons for thinking the way she did.

Benjamin has always taken care of others and never expected to be mistaken for his valet. I loved him right away because he got caught up in being free and not being seen for only his title. He knew what his heart wanted and went for it.

Jane Charles’ His Mistletoe Miss

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Spice Level: 💋1/2

This hooked me from the start because of the ghosts being around so many things going on. The mistletoe was a very unique item and I loved how it didn’t work the way he thought it would. I loved how they both thought the other loved someone else or didn’t notice the other. The treasure, knights, and all the ghost being around definitely kept me wanting to know more about everything. I have another favorite ghost in this one.

Holly wasn’t afraid of the ghosts at all and was determined to protect her guardian. I loved her secret and that she would talk to the ghosts. She didn’t really hide her thoughts or feelings and was someone you would want as a friend.

Anthony was just going to make his mother happy but hoped it worked the way he wanted. I loved when he found out how she felt about her guardian and how he reacted to the mistletoe when it worked. He wasn’t going to wait either in the end.
